Oh early tip, if you scan all the creatures on a planet you can get 250 times the number of creatures on the planet amount of nanite clusters. Note you need to find them all to get them to get the nanites. If you use this to buy a C class weapon upgrade for your ship, you can dismantle them usually for Cadmium. Cadmium refines into chromatic metal, if you have access to a large refiner gold + silver + cadmium = 10 chromatic metal. Cadmium + chromatic metal = 2 Cadmium. You can do this to get your Cadmium drive early.
Theres a trick i learned to get early indium/cadmium/emeril, go to the anomaly and do those missions collect emeril etc, or storm crystal missions,ancient fossils then you can KNOW which planets give what, then go to the station to Log it into your space station list.
and you can travel to the systems anytime, and pretty easy money
Also if you upload you get 2 nanites, but if you upload and rename you get 5.
Also you can get add on blueprints for your scanner from the space station that gives you more money per scan.
To get units early and easy, after you get a base:
- Make a medium refiner (Buy recipe in the Anomaly)
- Add chlorine & oxygen (just buy oxygen on trade terminals)
- add chlorine & oxygen together, start the refiner.
- Chlorine + oxygen = more chlorine.
So its basicly duplicating over and over again, even if you just have 1 chlorine start this process and you will have a few thousand in 2 minutes.
If you don't have chlorine, search for salt. Put salt in a refiner that will turn it into chlorine.
A stack of around 800 chlorine is worth +/- 1 million units. That way you can get a nice big (and strong) ship early so you can gather loads of materials.
And ofcourse, buy upgrades etc.
Not only for early game, you can use this all the time to get some nice credits
when I first started I found that caves usually always contain cobalt nodes. I mined them for about 10 mins, brought 3k cobalt to a trade station and found out it was worth 800k
Supposedly this has now been patched in 4.0, just so any future people seeing this comment know.

Thank you so much... After watching 5 other starter tutorials on "No mans Sky" you're the first one that told me the Melee button is "Q". Everyone talks about the "Melee" button, but you're the first one to tell me which one it actually is.

I havent had any major bugs but I will say I clipped through the ground one time lol. You can just dig your way out with the terrain manipulator though

Exactly what I needed, was guna restart to relearn but this was a perfect balance of refresher plus tips/tricks, super eager to see a follow-up video summarizing the new goals and new content updates. I want to come back feeling as if this was all here from the start

I made a base near an abondoned one also but i attacked the eggs, get the mobs to chase me far away, then run back and break all the eggs and take the cores whilst they are not there. If you kill them, then more will spawn.
The eggs are very valuable and i got about 15 and sold for over 1million right near the start of the game. Makes everything easier to get blueprints and materials after that.
Also because your base is there each time you load in there will be more eggs. So egg farming for money is super easy.
You can also refine them for a bunch of nanites!
Build a wall around one egg nest, shoot that egg, swarm stuck in enclosure and you can farm rest untouched
I met those guys too, first agros I've met. I didn't die, but I did lose my ship while running like coward.

Tip: Merchants and Refiners list your inventory from top left to bottom right. Putting your Oxygen, Sodium, and Carbon on the bottom row makes selling off junk quicker.
Great tip! I’ve don’t that before but it’s not a habit for me.
- For the very important resources, I came up with the rule, "Always remember DOCS" - dihydrogen, oxygen, carbon, sodium. Tbf, sodium becomes less important if you have ion batteries.
- Carbon is mainly used for the mining laser. If you run out, do a Steve (punch a tree) for a unit of carbon.
- Strafe plants and rocks with your pulse guns whenever you think you could use a bit more carbon and/or ferrite. (Ferrite isn't high on my "cargo" priority because it's so ______ing easy to get.)
- A bonus to scan rewards is always good and can do wonders for you on your non-combat (or general-purpose) MT.
- IMO, going for the center of the galaxy one jump at a time isn't worth it. Keep looking for promising stars with good economy and important resources, towards the center is a nice bonus but don't be afraid to go the other way. If you want to go for the center, stockpile warp cells and hypermods with a bonus to jump range, then burn them all at once in a series of jumps.
I keep watching these even though I really don't need any tutoring, I just like Bob and seeing what other NMS vets have in the bank for tips.

Seriously best starter guide out there for NmS, thank you. Your title turned me away initially as I was thinking it was just tips and went through some other videos that said it was a walkthrough. I wish I came here first. Seriously though, really appreciate the guide as you mention a lot of things I kept having questions about early on. As a friendly tip, beginners like me always appreciate when you say what the resource is and why you are gathering it and most importantly, if it’s something I should spend a lot of time gathering early.
SUbterranean relics, humming sacs are all indicators of caves so if you cant find one look for those, there will usually be a entrance nearby, If your refine the solanium you get carbon a little early game trick as well

I've been away in the UK for a month, without access to the game that I started playing just a week before I left home. While here I've searched high and low for decent info on the game in it's current form. This is far and away the best collection of accessible information I've found. Most so-called "guides" seem to be focused on exploits, which get patched out of existence. Oh, don't work about editing out the starter quest text as it is quite helpful and doesn't give away much at all because it is focused on teaching more than anything. Please update it for 4.2 - you could just x out the few type that no longer apply to save yourself making an entirely new video.
I was gonna call myself an experienced player, yet i learned today that you see the price ofa ship with the scanner visor 😆

Oxygen is your best friend! You can refine it into carbon andwhen you get a medium refiner (let you refine 2 items together) it's op. Oxygen + condensed carbon makes more c condensed carbon, Oxygen + ferrite dust makes more rusted metal which refines into more ferrite dust then you started with. If you use pure ferrite it makes even more rusted metal.
Ps4/ps5 controls: R2 is mining, R1 is melee, Up is crafting menu, down is tool bar to recharge etc.
Ps5: due to how the controllers work when your mining beam gets into the orange/red range you'll notice that it's harder to press R2, you can use this to your advanced to keep it in the red without overheating your gun.

First time to the space anomaly I lost the last 40 mins because I didn’t save and if multiplayer is on you will get stuck in a glitch sometimes where you can’t land. Definitely save right before heading there if you got a new ship. I learned the hard way lol. Thanks for the video. Bought at launch and never played this game. Having a lot of fun with it!
This is a REALLY GOOD guide. I know everybody’s excited about the new expedition, but it would be nice if there was a continuation to this. Everything else I’ve found for this game is centered around whatever expedition is going on at the time, it’s woefully out of date, or it’s just about a particular issue (what ships/gear is best, how to make money, get nanites, etc.
Easily the quickest, most informative, and helpful tip video I have ever seen.

Pro-tip: You just go right ahead and land at the space station when you first leave the planet. What that's going to do is speed up the base computer mission, by allowing you to teleport (with the base teleporter) directly to the space station and back to your base when you're finished talking to 3 people, and doing whatever else you want to do. This works no matter what update drops. Caveat: You must buy the base teleporter and some kind of power source. Whether that's a biofuel reactor or solar panels and batteries (the difference is how many Buried Technology you pick up) isn't important, nor is the power needed to be "on" for your return trip.

I have a 90 hour normal game in play (S class ship & S class freighter etc.) still farting around with the damn Artemis quest - I keep drifting off into new warps and space battles and shit. I also did about 50 hours in creative - utter waste of time. I figure it’s time to start afresh with everything I’ve learned and your guidance which is on the money. I’m not sure I’d have realised that without playing a bit already. Message to noobs, this is the way! Great vid, well done.

Great video as I'm just getting the game. Quick suggestion though, please turn down your added audio bits. The chimes scared the crap out of me each time lol.
I love the terrain manipulator. I built a one room base on a cliffside overlooking the ocean just outside civilisation and used it to form land over the base and its buried in the wall of the cliff. Im hoping to have a small tunnel system that leads from the one room down underground into a larger area for the base.
Sounds Cool! I hope it stays that way! Terrain is notorious for reappearing.

I've also been playing Manticore, Starlink, Destiny 2, Battlefront 2, Warframe, Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw, Outer Wilds, The Long Journey Home and I'm kinda looking forward to Starfield. Finger's crossed.

I just started this game 15 hours ago. I love it. I avoided the game for a long time, but it is a preatty good game. I started on Survival mode because the normal mode seems to be too easy. I hope that wasn't a mistake.

21:30 Something I would add is if you go to the Space Station don't talk to any of the vendors! At least not until you talk to the first 3 aliens you see walking around. Spoilers abound so I won't say more. But if you talk to the vendors too soon you cannot use them to then buy and sell goods.
It's only for the first Space Station which is something. But losing out on vendors early game kind of sucks. Furthermore they'll always be off limits to you if you ever return later.

Crashing economy with cobalt has to be one of the easiest way to generate tons of money and more cobalt.
Tip for punch jumping, first punch and just after you use your jetpack! It makes you go so far haha

You can disable the damage numbers, so you don't have 40, 40, 40 rising from everything you shoot (it still renders the radial-bar, so you know how much heath the target has left).
Cool! I honestly didn’t know that. I do like the numbers though so I can see what damage I am doing.
One thing to note about the Radiant Pillar is that line around 21 tech slots, that means that you can fill all those slots before upgrading its class
That's a great point. I've thought about that a lot. It's the only C Class I'm aware of that you can do that with, but storage and nanites are at such a premium early game, I've never really used it that way.
I just started playing on Xbox after buying the game for cheap a couple years ago. Can you go into more detail about the Radiant Pillar? Is it worth keeping?

I was stuck for 2.5hrs because I spawned on a volcano planet in a large square area surrounded by cliffs. I didn't know that I couldn't get out and looked for my ship forever. Once I restarted the game I realized I was just dealt a shit hand lmao

just a tip for those looking for inventory space... if you go to space shoot a bunch of asteroids collect gold silver platinum then sell it to traders at the space station that come in periodically "not the traders that are already there, the ones that come in with their flyer from time to time and then stand around and then take off and you can offer to buy their ship, just buy a second ship or 3rd ship and if you press I think its c z or one of those buttons, you can then summon that flyer where ever you are anywhere "after a certain point in the beginning of the story of course" expensive, yes but its way cheaper then unlocking multiple inventory slots at the beginning when they cost a fortune especily those cargo slots, this is several inventory slots unlocked for extra storage.

The first three aliens I talk to on the space station are always the Mission Agent, the Guild Envoy, and the Exocraft Tech Merchant, because I never use any of those in the first system.

I went crazy mining cobalt once for a few hours I cleared a huge cave looking for platinum and gold and maxed out the cobalt limit and I have been playing now for a few weeks and still haven't used even half of that same cobalt stash I guess I don't refine with it a lot but mining is fun especially knowing I will need it in the future game
Just started playing again yesterday and I got some shit/amazing luck, first planet was basically on fire, 2nd radiated, 3rd toxic, and fourth was winter. But I did find an upgrade that increased fauna scanning by 7,610% so I'm getting 100,000+ units per new scan.
Does your systemalso has a paradise moon where everything is a tent of pink? We might be in the same system, since I got same planets and weird illegal fauna scanner.
I played this game some years ago but I totally forgot how to 'play' it. Watching this just makes me want to restart but I'll fix what I've been doing wrong

I did something similar, early and easy money collect nav data buy the distress, then used them all in space as they tend to find all on the same planet, find a crashed ship with a comm ball, get that, then go to another planet and run the planetary map it will only search on the planet first, so on the 2nd planet you can farm broken ships and only broken ships
The rocket launchers are actually a pretty quick way to get surface planetary materials. If you’re lazy like me I just fire my rocket launcher randomly at the ground without landing.
Some may call it lazy, but I call it efficient!

Wanted to keep the first other ship I found during the questline, dropped the marker and didn't know it vanishes when leaving the system. But I guess I have a screenshots of the coords somewhere. Still don't know how to transfer another ship to somewhere though.

The whole thing about going to your first space station and talking to NPCs about what 16 means can be done by talking to the same walking around NPC 3 times so you will only have 1 NPC that will never talk to you again, I learned this on my new 4.0 save of NMS.
This has been changed in Interceptor. Now the npcs forgive you the next time you come to the station so feel free to chat to whoever you like.

I'm totally new to nms (only 6 hours in) really enjoying it but hate hate having to mine things so much (everytime my fuel depletes for example) cant seem to upgrade my ship (only my exosuit slots)
keep going. that's still early game. it goes away as you advance, upgrading your ship and buying stuff instead of mining.
I'm abit lost where I'm upto at moment, having to expand my home base and hiring staff to work there, can't seem to progress the msq
You may be a victim of the games tendency to switch your active quest without warning you. Go into your log and select the main story quest you wish to follow, these are the quests listed on the top of the screen, that'll refocus you back on what you need to do. But also remember that in NMS what you "need" to do is what you must enjoy doing
