im a white belt but been one for a little too long lol. long story short I landed that arm bar set up twice today. high speed too. i need to land in that acute angle next time and also need to get my elbow into the ribs more and lastly i need to post on the head
Thank you Prof. Tom, I live in Kosovo and we don't have any BJJ gyms, I am trying to learn the basics with some friends and your videos are very helpful. Thank you!
Love all the content you're putting out! Been working Darce's and Anaconda's lately and I swear I've watched about 5 of your video's that have great details as well as great setups for the finishes! Thank you so much.
Man I love the concept of linking arms for the Darce and then rotating into position. I tend to try to shoot one arm through and grab the back of the head
yea yo keeping grips locked does a ton of stuff. breaks posture, makes it harder to break your grips and helps get that arm waaaaay in there to leave no space for the choke to fail.
Coach Tom, thanks for the advice on trying the KOB (knee on belly). I'm a bigger guy at 6ft 200lbs and have always been afraid to use it from side control. (don't laugh too hard at that one ok) Anyways, I wasn't expecting that advice from you and I'm so glad that you put it in there along with all the other extra's that you normally do with explaining why or what could happen if we go for certain attacks. That KOB will force me (and my opponent by trying to get out of it) into trying new attacks like the ones you provided. Thanks so much Coach, I look forward to giving a try and bringing it into my attacks.
These videos are incredibly helpful with the multiple options for attacks. I love it! However, Coach Tom, I must admit that I suffer from knee on belly guilt and anxiety because I weigh 50-80 lbs more than most of my partners. Am I being naughty?
you shouldn't feel guilty. I remember I used to train with a guy who was easily 140kg. I remember someone said to him "can you stop putting all your weight down on me please?" and his reply was to say "I don't ask the smaller guys to move slower or the muscular guys to use less strength". I thought that was a fair point.
How rock solid is the 'rule' of an arm bar finishing in the perdendicular or acute angle vs the obtuse angle? 3:15 Is it because you can control the leg and therefore limit the possible escapes?
BlairLSK That position holding the leg is called spider web but u’ll see it mostly with the other person defending the armbar holding his arms so there are some attacks from there
Great question Blair. Its to prevent an ultra easy unstoppable hitchhiker escape. The only way to prevent is to keep a small angle or hold the leg/pants. (-: Coach Tom Davey
Question: when you have him in the armbar and you hook the left leg, for me, my 1st instinct is going to want to roll my right leg on top of the person while also giving me the ability to bend my elbow and hopefully break free of the armbar. How do you keep this from happening:)
"I'm not leavin' without an arm or a neck." love it! Cheers Coach!
"if he tries to get me off, I'm not leavin"
Class in 35 min, def gonna try this one as well!
Thx Prof Tom!🤙🏼
Coming back for a refresher, you don’t understand how many Armbars I’ve got from this!
The standard of your channel is on the top. Great technics every day.
Thanks for the kind words! Happy rolling! (-: Coach Tom Davey
"I'm not leaving without an arm, or a neck."...Fuck yea...

I love this setup for the darce, I always think of it as a "swooping" attack
5:48 of awesomeness
