Yes I agree, I am the only woman (total newbie) in my class of big blue belts and up and I've blown their mind.. No one knows I have Prof Tom in my corner lol!!
Totally love your mnemonics!😁 When I roll the only thing I remember is simple things like „Penguin feet“ and then snap it comes back what to do. Thank you so much, great Videos!🙂👍🏻
I am a useless newbie yet only a week in and only 3 times fought free at the end of training. With watching a couple of videos with this clear breakdown i manage to play 70% instead of trying to muscle 100% and gotten back 2 back submissions. Its insane how studying can help you SO much in Jiu Jitsu and I really am thankful i got it soon that you dont need to plow through 110% for fights in training rather than try to work out techniques. Big journey on the way. Prof. Tom is insane , hope he gets well soon.
Just this one video upped my guard game by 300% literally on my first day after watching it, guillotine chokes and sweeps seem actually possible to hit on a consistent basis if I keep practicing these techniques, starting to learn how to put serious pressure on the blue belts at my MMA school. I cant wait to practice more for my next live roll sessions, Thank you:)
Coach Tom. You are fixing my game. I roll with a variety of guys and your tips and the way you explain it, just works, thank you! I have always loved the set up for the Ezekiel chokes and you have like 10 and the escape from bottom is what I needed to see and the practice for strength on your leg trick rocks too. Ok I better stop, but THANK YOU!
just found this channel used to be semi pro k1 fighter with 2mma fights(2ko) and had like 2 years no training at all and start bjj as a white belt and i like your stuff a lot u seem like a good guy keep up
Excellent tip this one. I will try it out this weekend, as last weekend before Competition. I'm comfortable having someone in my closed guard and this will add another attack layer. Will drill it for sure Coach. I'll be sure to update you after the Competition too! Oss!
Thanks, coach Tom - Excellent ideas! - I'll share this video with friends. Reese doesn't smile much, but I sure did watching your clever moves! Have a good weekend.
😃👍 отлично маэстро!! Блин жалко, что я английский оочень плохо знаю и на слух тяжело воспринимаю, но в целом конечно понимаю чему учит. Thank you, good video
Coach Tom. Great video! How do you defend this when the bottom guard player is doing this to you? As an older competitor I am always concerned with injuries to my knees. Thank you 🤙🤙
Oh my God! Beginner here without any prooer training centers in my whole country. The toes hooking the opponents feet is just what I need to deal with people who stay in cowgirl position in the closed guard.
Question.. what do you do when you go for this but their feet are tight under them and they still have great posture and pressure? Do you go for something else or is there any trick you have to fish at least one side in?
There will always be a need for many techniques to solve problems. Always just ask,. what opportunities are they giving me. I none, get to work and break them down! Happy rolling (-: Tom Davey
So I ran across this while in the guard recently. Its really frustrating! My opponent just kept breaking my posture and I had to work really hard to avoid the submish! I did find that once I understood it, I could sprawl out. But it was hard to avoid getting caught in closed guard again if your opponent quickly shoots his legs again. Any suggestions for a better technical counter against this technique?
Just a question from someone starting out, when and if you can stretch both legs and you break the opponent's posture would it be a viable and smart move to go for a triangle ( For when you break his posture and he going to brace himself and you push his arm in and you bring your leg up); hopefully that made sense as to what I was trying to ask. Any reply will be greatly appreciated. And awesome videos
MaadLuck I don’t use it as a “posture break” I use it when I’ve already broken their posture and controlling them but I want them to “fall” to a particular side so I can work submissions from there. Agreed, I wouldn’t open my guard to try this whilst they have good posture.
@@Tanishqkanojia1163 when i did that trick with my brother i couldnt get my feet under his easily with his shoes on in order to actually spread his legs
How fast do you have to get those penguin feet/foot in? I feel someone good when they feel that pressure relief will move away from you before you can get those feet in…….
@@TheGrapplingAcademy I’ll give it a crack……if i end up in someone’s side control I’ll be back with more questions……thanks for taking the time to answer!!
7 humans disliked this ,awesome free educational video. I wish I can interview them and just ask why. No had feelings, I just need to know, this should be easier than question of God existence. What, you didn't like his face ? Is it the gay accent 👹? Bro I give a like to these videos before I start watching. I still can't believe that its free, how good of him going that, how can you dislike that? If I was super man, I would look you guys up, all 7 of you, and give you a visit just before you go to bed and ask you, why the dislike ? I write your answer down and just fly off to the next disliker.
I tried this today in sparring with one leg and I got a guillotine! 😃
Nice one
Thanks coach Tom, your videos are just priceless for white belts. You explain the techniques clear and simple. So very appreciated.

I’ve been doing the first trick ever since I started and no one told me about it, I figured it out myself, lol.
Thats the beauty of it. Different techniques start to come naturally. Its a good sign you will be able to start learning quickly.
wow..I love those ones
Will try this when rolling later, thanks for the tricks!
I like the way you teach man! You are very passionate about the art. Gotta train with you guys if I ever get out that way.
You bring moves that no one has never taught me before 👏🏻 Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the warning on the knee crank with the foot hook.
Never have seen this or even thought of it. Can’t wait to use it!
thanks for the heel hooks. I have 6 months in bjj and Because of that video i was able to tap two higher belts quickly.

Awesome ! Now, how do you escape or defend that posture break/patella pressure?
Good question but it is hard! You have to try to kick out but you dive deeper down to do so which can be risky! (-: Coach Tom Davey

OHHHHHHHH. The first time I did it to my brother it didnt work :( But then I realized I was pushing my legs forward instead of widening them

any advice for bulging disc??l5s1...
See a chiropractor! Any injury can be trained around. Even if you can only do sitting wrist locks and toe holds for a while! (-: Coach Tom Davey
Build your core over time, strengthen the muscles around the disc to support your weight/frame from pressuring the disc
Another great trick from closed guard... Rubber guard!
