What makes Erebus particularly annoying is that, from his perspective, he wasn't actually proven wrong.
He escaped with his life and survived for millennia afterwards. If Kharn just straight-up killed him, instead of playing with his food, he'd have proven that Erebus wasn't.
Religious fanatics wouldn't be religious if they didn't have complete and unwavering faith in their beliefs.
What's more maddening is that he might be right for the wrong reasons. The World Eaters were pretty deep in the Khorne sauce by that point and Tzeentch really is the kind of jerk to play stupid games like this. Just As Planned.

Of course Khorne would bless one like him: he needs no bonuses. He just needs to keep fighting. So every time he fell, Khorne would just prop him up and let him go. The blood would flow, even if Kharn doesn't worship. It matters little.
Kharn has a counter in his helmet for everyone he kills. Most think it's a scorecard for himself. But what if it's so he won't forget a single death. Not for glory, but as a reminder that there is one final death to add to it. Erebus.

What absolutly hurts about Argel Tal's death for Kharn is that Argel Tal was the only one he could truely open up to. Not his battle brothers, not his primarch, but some twisted half daemon warrior from another legion.
Theres a scene earlier on between the two of them where Kharn is telling Argel Tal about why the world eaters went through with adding the nails in hopes of becoming closer to Angron, Argel Tal asks if it worked before being called away to help the 17th ready for deployment and after he walks away Kharn says "No. It didn’t."
He could never admit that to anyone in the 12th, not even Lotara Sarrin who he was arguably the closest too and she wasn't even part of the Legion itself, just the shipmaster of the Conqueror. With the death of Argel Tal, Kharn lost more than just a friend.
And in the scene where he absolutely thrashed Erebus he felt a rage beyond anything the nails could ever induce in him, one so deep and powerful that it silenced the nails for just a moment and turned into something even scarier than Angron when he was lost to the nails.

Imagine having the skill to back up being so full of yourself and winning duel after duel.
Feeling like a hard ass and then Khan just steps in and drops you 3 times before you can even realise he has launched an attack.
That fight went down as if mummy’s new boyfriend Khan just came home drunk and in a bad mood beat Erebus ass like a red headed step child.

This was the moment that Kharn stepped past red, screaming bloodlust rage. This was when he entered cold Fury.
I keep thinking he stayed in that cold fury: exacting, every movement deliberate for the destruction of his enemy. Not frothing at the mouth and babbling insanity. Not screaming to gods he never cared for.
Silent. Any words he says are short. Clipped. And ice cold.
For my own headcanon, that day was the day the Nails stopped working on Kharn, because he so far surpassed the rage they wanted to inflict that they were rendered pointless. They had no need to activate anymore, because he was so full of rage.
His fellow World Eaters scream and drool and rend everything with blind red Fury.
But when Kharn walks into a room... he's already decided who will die and who will die... later.
And one day, he will get Erebus.
Erebus won't hear him screaming about Khorne, or "Kill! Maim! Burn!"
The last words Erebus will hear before his misbegotten head is taken is "... This is for Argel Tal."

    • @Kalebfenoir
      @Kalebfenoir Год назад

@TheCommissarGeneral I always figured the difference between a Khornate Berzerker, and Kharn was... if Khornate Berzerker walks into a war room, there's a high chance everyone will die for no reason.
But if Kharn walks into that room, he immediately judges the usefulness of everyone in the room. Out of 10 people he might immediately kill 4 without speaking. Then he looks from one survivor to another, dictating how they'll die.
To person One: "open your mouth once and you will die painfully."
To person Two: "...if you do not speak your concerns, I'll kill you now."
To another: "If you're not out of this room in 15 seconds, you will die."
And then finally, curiously, he'll pause at one, pointing idly at them. If he had his helmet off he'd have an odd, bemused smirk. "... and you. YOU will live to a ripe old age. Congratulations."
And that person will: they'll either become favored and end up immortal one way or another, or they'll age naturally, unharmed by war or mutiny or ambush or anything like that. Just by living their life whatever it is, they LIVE their full time.
It's not that Kharn spared them or anything. But he would recognize someone who isn't a fool, is capable, or hell, just Lucky, and it would amuse him for a moment.

@@TheCommissarGeneralyet Kharne found Sigismund to be the single worst outcome for their conflict. In sigismund he saw the imperium that would come, the same black Templars who would rather sacrifice billions and ruin the best chance out of a thousand years of chances to deal a critical blow to chaos all just to spite one Eldar. Not for some noble cause or vendetta, not for loyalty or reason or justice, just because it was the only thing they knew how to do and they had lost the ability to do anything else. In sogismund he saw the annihilation not just of chaos but of humanity and of all living things. He fought so hard to stop that from happening but sigismunds cold mechanical lethality cast him down before the imperial palace. Despite Kharne channeling the power and hatred of a demonic warp god at the time, somehow his defeat still managed to seem like a loss for humanity because it was the loss of humanity.
