hot stoppers would go great in a gift basket with a bag of H.I. coffee beans and a Mug or Two. or maybe just an H.I. coffee mug with like 10 or 20 hot stoppers in it. so the other items cover the cost of selling them.
Brady, you've taken the first step towards being a hoarder... turn back now, before it's too late. You'll end up paying thousands of Pounds to store this stuff for decades, then it'll all get thrown away at the end of that time. Under what circumstances will this stuff leave the storage space? If you can't honestly answer that question, you're doomed.
Can't astronauts just have a fun time during halloween and share it with the world? They are people, they deserve to dress up and have a chill fun time every once in a while, they don't have to be doing important space stuff all the time. NASA deciding to make a publicity stunt it is a whole other question, but don't blame the astronauts.
Well, i mean, if you really think about it, thousands of dollars are going into everything they do, every minute. NASA chooses people that can work on a constant schedule, because them being up there is a very expensive trip, both ways.
I know I'm late on this, but thank you. They go months and months without any comforts of home, limited access to their families, little connection to the real world or the ordinary passage of time, and he's going to gripe because they're having some levity posing for a holiday that he doesn't like. Surely, NASA saw this as a PR opportunity and it wouldn't surprise me if the astronauts themselves were aware of that when they did it. However, those kinds of comforts are expensive to transport, so some compromise has to be made. One take away from the photo: oh yeah, astronauts are people too, not some bronze statue or desk toy statically commemorating the peak of human achievement. Normally when Brady goes all hero worship like this, it's endearing. Here he sounded extremely petty. Like a kid throwing a fuss because a celebrity endorsed a sports team he doesn't like.
Touching the outside of a plane quickly becomes reflex if you work with them for more than a week. If you touch the plane, you know where the plane is, without looking at it, which means you get significantly fewer headbumps. Also there is the whole issue of electrostatic discharges being undesirable.
At around 1:17:58 Grey mentions these video games that are just to explain an idea. What I thought of was A Slower Speed of Light, which was developed by MIT as a demo game to show players what it would look and feel like if your speed got closer to the speed of light, stuff like red-shift and blue-shift, and some relativistic effects. For the sake of a consistent player experience, they decided that instead of increasing your character's actual speed, throughout the 'game' you'd be able to lower the value of the speed of light, which as far as the demonstration of physical effects is concerned, is basically the same idea.
I don't get this "feeling bad about the number" thing. Put them up at whatever price makes it worth doing, and if people think that's too much, they can just... not buy a hotstopper? You're not coercing anyone, everyone can make their own decision about what they want to buy at what price.
This universal paperclips game is actually part of a whole genre of clicker games (although a i think more in depth) where the whole goal is to click a button to get currency then you can you that currency to but something to click the button for you and that just keeps going forever. I think the most well know is cookie clicker, but there are others like egg inc. and I have been addicted to many of them.
Have you guys discussed net neutrality? I think that would be an interesting topic, and I would like to hear your opinions. I’m sorry if you have already discussed it, I am still catching up on the podcasts.
Grey and Brady I just wanted to let you both know that there is indeed a person who made it through the entirety of your video and doesn't know what a "hot stopper" is. THIS GUY!! LOL
In reference to the epilepsy point, yes it's possible. I have epilepsy and although I don't remember that from my childhood, I do know that mine used to be a lot worse than it is now. I also can't speak for everyone with epilepsy though.

I'm sorry Grey, but I ACTUALLY did not know what a Hotstopper was. I had to Google it. To which I found Brady's site talking about the campaign. I think the reason why I don't know what it is, is because I don't drink coffee, and have actually never been inside a Starbucks in my entire life. I know you must think I'm trolling you, but I truly and honestly did not know what one was before listening to this episode. Sorry to disappoint you, lol.
coffee cups with the HI logo and u sell them for a more money then a usaly cup but you will be able to package them by attaching it with the cups. you can use bradys cuzin to do it.
So strange... I can play a 40 hour skirmish in a strategy game over the course of a week... but I don't have the patience for universal paperclips. There's just not enough user input required, and everything past the autoclipper takes far too long to unlock. Closed it after about 20 minutes.
I just started the HI playlist and kept playing, if u decide not to start over in an alternate universe it ends when you have 30,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 paperclips
Nope, the CASINOS never sleep here in Vegas. The REST of the city does. Which is a pain, since often if you work for a casino your schedule means when you are off work, nothing is open except the casinos, a few grocery stores and fast food joints.
The way they were talking, about how you click a button, get a resourse, use that resourse to click that button for you, it could be any idle game. When they alluded to it really opening up and getting intense, that's when it was cookie clicker.
He has a deep emotional connection to NASA, so it clouds his judgement :p I kinda get what he's saying though...it cheapens the mystique and aura of NASA, but that may not be a bad thing.
I tried the paper clip game. I made an auto click script in autohotkey and got bored after a few minutes and got back to writing my essay on Pavlovian responses.
Halp! I've clicked the link and have literally been playing for hours. It's a really well designed game. It might look like a shitty clicker at first, but unlike most clickers, clicking the "Make Paperclip" button becomes completely useless, and it keeps adding new stuff. Also, the big thing they were talking about just happened, and I thought that would be the end but no... There's even more stuff now.
Paul Azzopardi Maybe the fuel tanks were filled so much they would have spilled fuel during takeoff and climbing (at a steep angle) (if there isn't a mechanism to prevent that).
There is a mechanism to prevent fuel from coming out on anything larger than a four seater it's a simple one way valve attached to the top of the fuel tank inside the wing (it probably broke)
It's actually a lot better. A lot more thought out, it keeps adding new things, and the need to press a single button over and over again disappears after just a few minutes.
24:39 Exact same thing happened to my hard drive only corrupting windows 7 Other than that everything else is fine though it took some time to trouble shoot I needed another boot drive

Two words for the hotstopper problem:
Pyramid Scheme
That's what I call...
A hotstopper stopper.
They can call it Mary Grey.
How about every purchase of a Hello Internet shirt or hoodie comes with a free limited edition Hello Internet hotstopper?
Yes that would be awesome, if they came out with more episodes...
hot stoppers would go great in a gift basket with a bag of H.I. coffee beans and a Mug or Two. or maybe just an H.I. coffee mug with like 10 or 20 hot stoppers in it. so the other items cover the cost of selling them.
This show makes me so happy when I listen to it. Just hearing the joy Brady's voice as he describes the self storage process.
34:15 - "I may go off a little bit..." - at least you gave some warning
This was my first podcast and i made it to the end and i don't know what a hotstopper is.
KevsCoolProductions you have to watch the other 92 at least 3 times each to unlock the true meaning of the hotstopper
New Tim? Hello there. Hotstoppers are those lil things you put in the coffee cup to plug the mouth hole so it doesnt spill out.
Same here KevsCoolProductions
Quick note on Paperclip: there's an entire genre of games called Idle clicker games. Paperclip is a somewhat deeper example of the genre.
Brady, you've taken the first step towards being a hoarder... turn back now, before it's too late. You'll end up paying thousands of Pounds to store this stuff for decades, then it'll all get thrown away at the end of that time.

Mike Warot honestly, I think Brady is hoping to get buried with it...
That first Blackblaze bit is the greatest podcast ad I've even listened to.
Doing any traveling? Sell the hot stoppers at meetups so there's no shipping. And you can sell them cheap enough to not worry about returns.
Sounds like Brady's nephew is going to have a new jig with the hot stoppers.
Brady should really sell the Numberphile brown paper! I would love to frame one and hang it on my wall.
Matt Wells he does sell them though! Or he used to. I am 100% sure he sold some before.
It would finally give him a side project to work on!
Your Backblaze ads were always pretty morbid, but this is a new level. Well done! :)

They can dress up personally fair enough but this is really public so it can't be just about the astronauts it's nasas image and mission on show
Well, i mean, if you really think about it, thousands of dollars are going into everything they do, every minute. NASA chooses people that can work on a constant schedule, because them being up there is a very expensive trip, both ways.

Maybe its more of an American things to dress up on Halloween as an adult
Is it me, or Grey was trying to hypnotize me to use backblaze?
I signed up for Backblaze, and a few months later my laptop was destroyed... it saved my bacon.
I just bought an sd card a stored it at and different room than my computer. Even with no ridiculous subscription!
The game genre is idle clicker, the first idle clicker to really gain popularity was cookie clicker.
I agree with Brady. Everyone should know what Weetabix is
Touching the outside of a plane quickly becomes reflex if you work with them for more than a week. If you touch the plane, you know where the plane is, without looking at it, which means you get significantly fewer headbumps. Also there is the whole issue of electrostatic discharges being undesirable.
"If a Willie is very small and black and white it's okay."
Hey Brady, it's not the size that matters; it's how you animate it.
I laughed so hard when Brady was ranting about NASA! That is exactly what I thought.
At around 1:17:58 Grey mentions these video games that are just to explain an idea. Brady: I want the ruth. i want the truth.
Grey: YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.
Come one Brady, the astronauts can't have their own fun?
17:04 the same exact thing you brain is doing when you look at cloud formations and see faces and stuff :)
25:37 ooooor encase it in lead ...
So someone took hours out of his life to edit this just for the zooms when a person talks.
respect bruv dedication.
The change in the video for the hotstoppers really made me laugh

@@solidsteal What is going on with this comment?
I love how when you google "hotstopper", Brady's face comes up in the summary of the meaning.
That moment when you search to see if there was a new Hello Internet recently, and there was one 8 minutes ago.
if you don't know what wheatabix are, this conversation is beyond repair
Alex Harris this made me chuckle bad.
Include ~25 hot stoppers with each merch purchase
Uh oh, I clicked on it.... there are only paperclips now...
28:02 That is so spot on!
Brady went full on thunderstorm tsunami tornado on that parade holy crap.

Similar experience with a game called frog fractions, that game is crazy.
It has been 30 years. The world has perished. The only thing that stands on the face of the earth is my paperclip empire.
Host a conference. Provide complementary hot chocolate and coffee and hot stoppers.
My God, Universal Paperclips ate my weekend. The worst part?
I told my roommates not to open it.
They opened it. On a Sunday night.
Grey and Brady I just wanted to let you both know that there is indeed a person who made it through the entirety of your video and doesn't know what a "hot stopper" is. THIS GUY!! LOL
Sell the hotstoppers at events, like any time where you are going to physically be with fans.
In reference to the epilepsy point, yes it's possible. I have epilepsy and although I don't remember that from my childhood, I do know that mine used to be a lot worse than it is now. I also can't speak for everyone with epilepsy though.
Hot stopper are called Splash sticks at Starbucks. But Hot stoppers is a great name.
Brady, have you ever thought about selling the brown papers? I'd buy one, especially if you happened to still have the Epic Circles paper...
He used to auction them on ebay. Not sure when or why he stopped.
Where can I get the plushies

I think Grey wants his wife to buy him some razors for Christmas.

Brady, you should give away the hot stopers at vidcons.
Defo right about the space station Halloween
Wait no number in the thumbnail?
Also wonder what the thumbnails will be like post HI 100
I spent way, way too many hours making paperclips, only to transform the entire universe into them...
Now I'm going to see if I can do it FASTER! ;-)
So strange... I can play a 40 hour skirmish in a strategy game over the course of a week... but I don't have the patience for universal paperclips. There's just not enough user input required, and everything past the autoclipper takes far too long to unlock. Closed it after about 20 minutes.

Really want a hot stopper even though I never get coffee 😅 you'll have to send them to passionate tims to act as distributors
I agree 280 is too long, but I always felt that 140 was too short... I think 200 would be a nice number
One of the show notes links here but there's nothing about hotstoppers aside from the audio
I understand (I think) why they changed the thumbnail design, but I prefer the old design, it's a lot easier to figure out quickly what episode it is.

I've always found the phrase "I didn't ______ myself, but.." bizarrely ambiguous.
so.. did you ______ while being someone *else* ?
1:22:24 What happened to Grey's voice? Cold, microphone change, or both?
...did they just discover something like cookie clicker?
The way they were talking, about how you click a button, get a resourse, use that resourse to click that button for you, it could be any idle game. When they alluded to it really opening up and getting intense, that's when it was cookie clicker.
coocky clicker is trash, that hampers you progress with sneaky mechanics. Universal paperclips is a zen like experience I wouldnt want to miss.
Brady totally misunderstands the point of Halloween
He has a deep emotional connection to NASA, so it clouds his judgement :p
I kinda get what he's saying though...it cheapens the mystique and aura of NASA, but that may not be a bad thing.

This is a whole genre of game. XD

I'm surprised they didn't mention the Adelaide Tesla Battery news thing.
Also, have they just never played Cookie Clickers before?
I never plaed Cookie Clickers, but this one has an end if u dicide not to start over in an alternate universe ^^
Here in Australia they're not Weet-a-bix, they're just Weet-bix
By the end of this I was at 4000 paperclips made already
Brady that port is for air to go into the fuel tank as the tanks drain
There might be an issue when the fuel is full before take off
Paul Azzopardi Maybe the fuel tanks were filled so much they would have spilled fuel during takeoff and climbing (at a steep angle) (if there isn't a mechanism to prevent that).
There is a mechanism to prevent fuel from coming out on anything larger than a four seater it's a simple one way valve attached to the top of the fuel tank inside the wing (it probably broke)
Skylab 4 showed us that astronauts need a brake once in a while. If letting them dress up gives them a boost in morale, than I am cool with it.
You guys know that this is just a version of cookie clicker...
The Orange It is on a different level because it has a choke on inputs AND outputs
But yea, yea it is
As I was listening to this I was checking up on a free to play game like these call Transport Defender. Can not recommend.
It's actually a lot better. A lot more thought out, it keeps adding new things, and the need to press a single button over and over again disappears after just a few minutes.
Huntracony So it's cookie clicker
