  • A FASCINATING 3 HOUR LOOK at Charles Bronson's early TV career--five classic boxing episodes and two career-poppers from 1956. Shortly after these versatile performances, he would return to the ring on the big screen as an aging boxer-trainer, co-starring with Elvis in Kid Galahad. A decade later, in his all-time greatest performance, Bronson starred as a depression-era street-fighter in Walter Hill's Hard Times. There's one thing you can count on --whenever Mr. Macho dons the gloves, bad guys and trouble are sure to follow. The exact starting time of each program in hours, minutes & seconds is in parenthesis: Ep. 1 (00:00) 'KNOCKOUT' (1952) As 'Killer Conley', Bronson (credited here as Chas. Bukinski) is duped by a bunch of jewel thieves and ROY ROGERS himself finally puts on the gloves to settle things. Ep. 2 (25:56) 'CORNERED' (1955) Bronson is a boxer in trouble who jumps bail and starts taking prisoners. Ep. 3 (50:50) 'TWO RINGS FOR EDDIE' (1954) In this 2nd episode of THE JOE PALOOKA STORY, Bronson has his eyes on both a wedding ring and the boxing ring. With real-life boxer "SLAPSIE MAXIE" ROSENBLOOM. Directed by ARNOLD LAVEN. Ep. 4 (1:16:53) 'THE HONEST MAN' (1956) RONALD REAGAN introduces this crucial career-making role for Bronson on G.E. THEATER, and Mr. Macho has a field day as a gangster at odds with JACK BENNY and ZSA ZSA GABOR. Ep. 5 (1:43:07) 'WHO SEARCH FOR TRUTH' (1956) Set in the early 1800s, our man plays a 19-year-old (in reality he was 35 at the time) French-Canadian fur-trapper. Directed by JOHN BRAHM. Ep. 6 (2:09:03) 'SECOND AVENUE ASSASSIN' (1958) On the big screen, Bronson stars in Roger Corman's Machine Gun Kelly. On the small screen, he finally receives his own series MAN WITH A CAMERA. This is the premiere episode featuring TOM LAUGHLIN as a young boxer in trouble and once again Charles has to put on the gloves to set things straight. Ep. 7 (2:35:00) 'THE LAST ROUND' (1961) An episode from ONE STEP BEYOND; battered boxer Bronson arrives in post-war London, falls in with a bad lot, and starts receiving warnings from a famous (and long dead) colleague. Directed by JOHN NEWLAND.

Ironic that the REAL boxer in the Joe Palooka short is the comic MAXIE ROSENBLOOM...Light Heavyweight Champ 1932-34.
