Showing the interim time when the paint is spreading but hasn't absorbed into the resin yet, when it still looks terrible, was a great idea. That's when a lot of crafters would start freaking out. reassuring them That's what it looks like before the resin hardens was a great idea, man.
I stumbled across your videos by random accident, but I am glad I did! been a long time 40k'er your videos have given me sooo much inspiration and ideas for my own armies and terrain and you've taught me a lot of really wonderful techniques. Your very talented and I for one thank you for these videos. Keep up the great work.
Great tutorial man! My bud and I just got into 40k. Your videos have been really helpful with saving me bucks on building terrain out of cheap materials. Definitely going to make something similar to this
Bloody good! I’m planning a whole nurgle manufactorum realm of battle board so this will be great for all the vats of goo! Looks amazing Luke! Great work.
Wow or should I say WOOOOWWWW!!! They look fantastic Luke, top job mate. Many thanks for sharing these videos, they are so helpful and interesting too. Have fun on your next project and many thanks once again, Joe
Hey, I was looking for how to make a tar pit but I haven't made any terrain before - your video's are great, easy to follow and make the whole thing much less daunting. Off poundland first thing tomorrow!
And finished! Used scrunched up tin foil to make the clay look like dried cracked tar, and added black paint to the epoxy. Love your videos, and hope to get my stuff looking as good as yours. (eventually) drive.google.com/open?id=1rLLGPY5_ONakehcZ38zkKXmkzUukmQgQPQ
Impressed with how they came out. well done. I will be trying on my own, hopefully in the near future, Your videos have been great because they are explained so clearly even fools can understand
Thanks for making this video Luke! I`m about to help my son build a board for his 40K Death Guards, which will have toxic craters, and we`re going to try your technique!
I don't do tabletop gaming or want to do, and I don't want to do this myself but for some reason your videos are realy fun One time I actually like when RUclips puts random shit in my recommended page
Your vids are really great to watch. You have talent for making things and painting but also for editing your videos and having a great speaking voice. Being a Yank it's awsome hearing certain words like bubbles. Jus gonna put a couple around the limey green stuff. The boobles look fantastic and hahaha you said limey.
Think my ancestors came across the pond in like 1651 so we are pretty much removed from Jolly Ol England but I can understand the talk pretty well. Guess I can thank Benny Hill, The Young Ones, Monte Python, and more for that. What's strange is there's people here in the US I don't have a clue what they are saying half the time.
randomly stumbled across your vids, never played warhammer or any table games and never been interested in them, although i find myself watching vid after vid purely for the creative artistic side.Really talented, hopefully you get many more subs, keep up the good work.
Hey Luke, thanks for making and sharing this! its great! I've had a go and so far so good. I'll be buying some proper resin as the poundland resin was a lot thicker than I expected, but then again I didn't know what to expect. your home made stir land mud recipe is great too. Keep up the good work 😁😁😁
Crazy! i where just considering to make something like these and there you are making a video to my specific need. the timing could not be better. Cheers have a good one and thanks for being awesome. :D
Try taking a look at some of the artwork for the codexes :) Some ideas could be ruined buildings of different sorts, natural scenery with different sci-fi elements included, city streets, toxic rivers, scorched battlegrounds... the list is endless ^^ Alien plants/ trees could be a great tutorial, I've personally had fun making those before :)
FYI, the first link to the resin is giving a 404 Error. Is the address maybe wrong? Thanks, love your channel and have used some of your tips on my kits and scale models.
love your show! kudos to you my friend. i'm building a devil worshiping half ruined shrine out of foam and cardboard. I want a pool of blood that is leeking down a broken brick wall into the floor below. No problems with the pool... but the leeking on the wall gives me troubles. how would you fixe it?
Awesome stuff Luke! I did something very similar using the poundshop resin and paints/inks for a display for a friend, complete with plastic beads for bubbles :)
Thanks for these videos, they are really helping. I would like to create a lightweight but strong diorama for my children to use with their sylvanian families. It will be a sea with a beach. What do you recommend for the base and please could you do a sea and beach diorama video?
Thanks for the video! But I'm wondering of you could help me? Im trying almost the same as this, but for 32mm and 40mm bases. And im really struggling to get the same or even similar effects. The project is a green daemon bile goo base, with some demon /nurgle tentacles poking out (just a simple milliput sausage job for tentacles) for my grey knights. Ive gone an actual darkish grey and not silver for my knights, and wanted something nice and contrasty. And not the typical lava base people always do for grey knights. But the main issues I'm getting is massive shrinkage from vellejo still water effects, (but that can be worked around with more layers) and I can't get the yellows and lighter greens to disperse and blend nicely like you can on a deeper bigger pool for Terrain. Just wondering if you had any recommendations? Or possible a different method is needed for the smaller shallower bases? Thank you
Mate with using the clay, do you not find damping the MDF makes it warp? My centre piece has curled up on the edges, gonna have to sand it flat and pray I dont go all the way through the MDF.
do you know if the resin is heat reactant, as in if i was to use a hair drier on it would it set faster? also how dose it mix with PVA? in the past i have used pva in thick layers and when i have used a hear drier on the pva it started to create air bubbles as the small air bubbles would heat up and the air would expand. the problem was that most of them would deflate after i removed the hair drier and they started to cool down. on a later date i mixed in acrylic paint with pva and found that i could get small bubbles to form much easier than big ones as they would dry faster and hold there shape. im just wondering if i was to mix them and use a hair drier would it do the same thing...
Hey Luke! So glad I came across your channel. I've been looking all over for a how-to on this sort of swamp/pool. I'm working on a display platform for a Halloween Village, and it has a skull overlooking the swamp. I want to do a "waterfall" effect from the skull's mouth, down to the swamp... but it has to match the color. How would you go about this? Thanks for taking the time to do these awesome videos!!!
I finally got it done, and I wanted to show you the results. facebook.com/villageplatforms/photos/a.839549229545029.1073741832.832889043544381/839549272878358/?type=3
What did you use to cut the barrels to get them to look like that? And can you list the paints you used? Specifically all the greens, the yellow, and then the rust color(s) you used for the barrels. Lastly, what are the things you used for the bubbles called? Thanks!
You do some amazing work! That said I have been searching for ideas on how to create the rainbow effect often seen on the edges of fuel/oil spills in water. Any suggestions?
What is the easiest material use for terrain building as a beginner? I have plenty of double ply, single ply cardboard and some A3 5mm foamboard. Would using 50/50 PVA+Water mix during constuction add some strength to it. I would like to try something simple like a small ruined wall section to start off with.
I have used this tutorial which I think is fantastic but mine isn't so. I've used coloured ink which isn't seeping into the resin at all. Has taken forever to dry. Can you give me any tips?
You have any tips doing this on a base and prevent it to flow over on the edges, like i made my model stand on a rocks and want to cover with this around it. ? :) thank you! love your channel!
Máté Császár He does a video where he just puts tape or something (can't remember) around the base and waits for it to set then takes it off once hard.
Dang… I must have done something wrong. Did everything exactly as you did. Even used same colors and resin. Yet it didn’t blend in like u said it would. It just dried like you showed us that it would look like while drying. It looks really bad… should have just left it with the normal green colored resin. The flour yellow drops messed it all up, and now my whole work is fked up 😫😩😱
Luke loving the videos - really inspiring. I need help. I love the idea of the resin drawing out the paint and love the effect but when I use acrylic it does not mix let alone draw out as you have shown. I used Citadel paints - what paint did you use, it was difficult to see. Any advice greatly appreciated!
You are awesome! I was just about asking You to do some postapo/sci-fi stuff and BANG! there it is. Any tips on wasteland/desert/sandy dunes and postapo related stuff?
Cool!! Can't wait to see it. Thanks to You i started doing my own dioramas :) The theme is mostly post-apocalyptic, i'm planing on modifying my hot wheels collection to a madmaxy look, so deserts, toxic pools and a wastelandy look is what im going for. Thanks again for your vids
Awesome, looking forward to it! I've been working on a "fire/ice" board for the longest time but the biggest barrier (besides time :P) has always been figuring out how to make the water and hardpack look right.
I know this was made a while ago so you’re unlikely to see this but is there any way to make a toxic barrel effect that is leaking into normal water? Such as in a pond and a barrel was just put inside and started leaking? Rather than the whole piece that is
Lukes Aps ahh. Ok then. Thanks a lot. Im thinking of making my own diorama set soon and im thinking of making a river, possibly with barrels inside it so thanks a lot! Much appreciated
I know this video is old but i did want to say there are stickers for card making that look like dew drops that would also work for this and you could do different sizes and what not which would look cool
After watching you videos, I dropped into my local Poundland. Bought a few bits, spot on with those bargins for making terrain. Are those bubbles made using the Tommy Walsh Anti Skid/Scratch pads from Poundland? Would love to see more sci-fi terrain.

Hey Luke, I am a new subscriber and I have to say I love your videos. I tried to do the greek toxic pool as you said but I am not sure if they come out properly. Is it possible somehow to sent you some pics and if you can give me advices?
Hi Luke...I'm having some trouble with my valiant and need some help pls if you can. Basically I've never had any problems but the last two weeks I've noticed that accelerating in 4th there's a very slight hesitation and when I'm in 5that full throttle, if I ease off to go around a corner, if I get back on the throttle the bike hesitates and loses power for a second (make like a lurch) and then picks back up. Any ideas what this might be? Sorry to post on here dude I just know you've got a valiant as we've spoke before
Luke I want to make some of these using a lava effect with yellows and orange colours with black effect any help or advice would be gladly appreciated cheers Lee
Hey Luke! Love your channel you are doing a great job! :) What you think i can make this toxic pool under a miniature on a base? Thinking about my onager dunecrawler to stand on rocks above a toxic pool.
Luke, how transparent is the resin/epoxy after adding paint? I have a base covered in skulls I want to make look like they've been drowned...wondering if I can color the poundland type epoxy but still see the detail beneath
Showing the interim time when the paint is spreading but hasn't absorbed into the resin yet, when it still looks terrible, was a great idea.
That's when a lot of crafters would start freaking out.
reassuring them That's what it looks like before the resin hardens was a great idea, man.
Sadly it just stayed like that for me… didn’t blend in. Just dried like he showed us and it looks absolutely terrible 😫
@stefangeibla3824 well that's awful. If it's already dry then it's over. Time to start again I guess.
Mate, this one is the nuts. Love the effect the layering gives and the bright paint blending in is genius. Cracking tutorial.
mate, I don't play table top games but I've been seriously impressed at the quality of your content. Plus you seem a right lad. Thanks!
Great tutorial man! My bud and I just got into 40k. Your videos have been really helpful with saving me bucks on building terrain out of cheap materials. Definitely going to make something similar to this
ugh omg if i did tabletop stuff i'd make the SHIT out of this sort of stuff
love your craftsmanship
Bloody good! I’m planning a whole nurgle manufactorum realm of battle board so this will be great for all the vats of goo! Looks amazing Luke! Great work.
I wasn't too sure about those bubbles going on, but damn if they don't like the part. Brilliant work there mate.
Wow or should I say WOOOOWWWW!!! They look fantastic Luke, top job mate.
Many thanks for sharing these videos, they are so helpful and interesting too.
Have fun on your next project and many thanks once again,
Joe
I have been trying to figure out how to make a lake for my Halloween display without having to buy and cut foam and this was super helpful!

They look very nice. This would also work as acid bath terrain for Warmachine/Hordes. Thanks for the tutorial!
TMNT terrain! lol, nice idea. I'll have to experiment with letting paint bleed into resin. Maybe once I've got a few bucks to rub together.

Crazy! i where just considering to make something like these and there you are making a video to my specific need. the timing could not be better. Cheers have a good one and thanks for being awesome. :D
Been hooked on your stuff for the past week now was wondering when you'd post some 40k environments. Looks lovely :D
Try taking a look at some of the artwork for the codexes :) Some ideas could be ruined buildings of different sorts, natural scenery with different sci-fi elements included, city streets, toxic rivers, scorched battlegrounds... the list is endless ^^
Alien plants/ trees could be a great tutorial, I've personally had fun making those before :)
Wouldn't mind checking out how you'd take on a snow/winter like environment. Could be interesting.
Creating semi frozen lakes and stuff.
Sounds good can't wait to see your results.
You are such an awesome person, these videos are so helpful and I love your channel!
That paint blending trick really looks awesome when it's set Luke :)
I'll be using that trick for sure!
Ta.
That is so cool, now I have I look into experimenting with resin.
Major cool. I was wondering how would you make the toxic waste look like it was dripping to form a puddle?
Have you tried black peppercorns for anything? They're nice and somewhat round with nice ridges for great drybrush.
Lovely toxic pools. Thanks for sharing!
Fantasic tutorial. Can't wait to make my own pool. Thanks so much Luke!
I don't do any of this stuff but I still watch your videos because it's amazing. Hahah
These are EXCELLENT!!! Thank you for sharing your videos!! You are very talented!!!
I feel like this could work really well for lava as well if you swap out the green paint for red and yellow. Might try it this weekend.
Six years later this tutorial is still being useful.
FYI, the first link to the resin is giving a 404 Error. Is the address maybe wrong?
Thanks, love your channel and have used some of your tips on my kits and scale models.
Thanks! Keep on keepin' on!
Finally somebody does a toxic pile this will work for my gamma world games!
love your show! kudos to you my friend. i'm building a devil worshiping half ruined shrine out of foam and cardboard. I want a pool of blood that is leeking down a broken brick wall into the floor below. No problems with the pool... but the leeking on the wall gives me troubles. how would you fixe it?
Hi, very cool effect. Is it possible to use same method to represent lava?
Awesome stuff Luke!
I did something very similar using the poundshop resin and paints/inks for a display for a friend, complete with plastic beads for bubbles :)
Danse Macabre nhn
Sorry Malcom, not too sure what you mean by "nhn"..........
would it be possible to do like a hot spring style of pool, with the bright rings of color? that would be a really cool video to show how to
Thanks for these videos, they are really helping. I would like to create a lightweight but strong diorama for my children to use with their sylvanian families. It will be a sea with a beach. What do you recommend for the base and please could you do a sea and beach diorama video?
I'm deeply interested In playing games like this but I don't have anyone to play it with:( love these videos though
p.s I think your super positive ☺
watching your videos have made my digital figures bases way way prettier thanks mate
This is one of my favorites Luke, brilliant!
that looks really nice.
exactly what i need for my tyranid Terrain. thank you

Sweet, how would that look with some glow in the dark paint?
What kind of paint were you mixing with the resin? Was it acrylic or oil based? By the way love the vids very useful information so thanks for that.
that looks grate. is there no way you can add air to the resin before it sets? maybe by using a straws to blow air into the mix...

such a great video, cant wait to try this but where did you get the barrels?
hi Lucas you ever thought about using future floor polish 4 water effects it's an acrylic polish made by Johnson & Johnson
I've heard of it being used a lot to improve the look of clear acrylic pieces. Is that something you've tried?
Hey Luke! So glad I came across your channel. I've been looking all over for a how-to on this sort of swamp/pool. love it, What did you make to give texture to the surrounding of the pool?
What did you use to cut the barrels to get them to look like that? And can you list the paints you used? Specifically all the greens, the yellow, and then the rust color(s) you used for the barrels. Lastly, what are the things you used for the bubbles called? Thanks!
Lukes Aps Thanks! And what are the things you used for bubbles called?
Brilliant! Where'd you get the barrels, mate?
Can I do this effect with woodland Scenics’ realistic water, sage green water tint, and some neon yellow liquitex basic acrylic?
Why not use the green color in fantasy as well to create like "cursed" etc. water for ponds & maybe a well?
You do some amazing work! That said I have been searching for ideas on how to create the rainbow effect often seen on the edges of fuel/oil spills in water. Any suggestions?
What was used to create the edge of the piece? It looked like clay but wasn't sure.
Nice, friendly and cost effective tutorial!
I, personally, would put some little clear micro beads into the two layers to make bubbles instead of those sticky ones
What is the easiest material use for terrain building as a beginner? I have plenty of double ply, single ply cardboard and some A3 5mm foamboard. Would using 50/50 PVA+Water mix during constuction add some strength to it. I would like to try something simple like a small ruined wall section to start off with.
Cheers Luke thanks for the advice!
I have used this tutorial which I think is fantastic but mine isn't so. I've used coloured ink which isn't seeping into the resin at all. Has taken forever to dry. Can you give me any tips?
Could you use this technique to make a Lava pool as well?
Could one just blow the bubbles with a small straw before the resin is set?
You have any tips doing this on a base and prevent it to flow over on the edges, like i made my model stand on a rocks and want to cover with this around it. ? :) thank you! love your channel!
Máté Császár He does a video where he just puts tape or something (can't remember) around the base and waits for it to set then takes it off once hard.
Hi, 👋 can you tell me what kind of resin do you use? I’m a beginner and a little confused. Thanks
Where can we get those adhesive half pearl thingies?
I've looked everywhere.
That's bloody amazing man, love your work as always.
Any suggestions to fix warping after the pieces have already been done? Or is it just too late to do anything about it now?
Dang… I must have done something wrong.
Did everything exactly as you did. Even used same colors and resin. Yet it didn’t blend in like u said it would. It just dried like you showed us that it would look like while drying. It looks really bad… should have just left it with the normal green colored resin. The flour yellow drops messed it all up, and now my whole work is fked up 😫😩😱

Lukes Aps CFS. Washes such as agrax earth shade are fine but used Mephistorn red: it did not end well! Didn’t mix so ended up with red bits in resin
Lukes Aps ok thanks Luke, much appreciate it . I will give them a go.
Nice video and great tutorial! Just a quick question, where are the barrels from?
they look fantastic
You are awesome! I was just about asking You to do some postapo/sci-fi stuff and BANG! there it is. Any tips on wasteland/desert/sandy dunes and postapo related stuff?
Cool!! Can't wait to see it. Thanks to You i started doing my own dioramas :) The theme is mostly post-apocalyptic, i'm planing on modifying my hot wheels collection to a madmaxy look, so deserts, toxic pools and a wastelandy look is what im going for. Thanks again for your vids
These tutorials are really awesome.
Would you be able to do one for deep arctic style water or even ice/melt?
Awesome, looking forward to it! I've been working on a "fire/ice" board for the longest time but the biggest barrier (besides time :P) has always been figuring out how to make the water and hardpack look right.
I would like to see some more 40k terrain designs
Awesome work matey! and G'day from Australia!!!!
Can the cheap resins be thinned with pure alcohol for shallow effects?
Hey Lukes
What do you call those you are using for bubbles?
Love the channel! Could you do a video on a similar technique for making lava pools? would you do anything diffetent other than change colors?
What is that base you used to put your clay on?
Very impressed. Your skills are amazing.☺
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says "Alright"
You will die if you do this
You've got to down a mug of Yorkshire Tea in one go.
Or when the terrain tutor says “yeah?”
After watching you videos, I dropped into my local Poundland. Bought a few bits, spot on with those bargins for making terrain. Are those bubbles made using the Tommy Walsh Anti Skid/Scratch pads from Poundland? Would love to see more sci-fi terrain.
No problem, I'll drop into Poundland and have a look for them. Keep up the great videos.
Could be these Glue Dots Boxed 200 Pieces.

Hey Luke, I am a new subscriber and I have to say I love your videos. I tried to do the greek toxic pool as you said but I am not sure if they come out properly. Is it possible somehow to sent you some pics and if you can give me advices?
Maybe you put too many Greeks in the pool?
look great , nice and bright . great vid
don't worry about it I am sure we will be sharing ideas etc as normal in the future.
Looks awesome!
All that's left is to put some turtles in it ;)
Do you find that other types of resin create a different paint effect when they dry/set?
Hi Luke...I'm having some trouble with my valiant and need some help pls if you can. Basically I've never had any problems but the last two weeks I've noticed that accelerating in 4th there's a very slight hesitation and when I'm in 5that full throttle, if I ease off to go around a corner, if I get back on the throttle the bike hesitates and loses power for a second (make like a lurch) and then picks back up. Any ideas what this might be? Sorry to post on here dude I just know you've got a valiant as we've spoke before
hey Luke, what kind of MDF do you use for the base?
6:45 "it looks terrible"
Nah dude that looks cool as shit! I like this.
Does this technique work with Nurgles rot?
would this work with Woodland Scenics realistic water
Luke I want to make some of these using a lava effect with yellows and orange colours with black effect any help or advice would be gladly appreciated cheers Lee
Hi m8 what colour would I need to mix with epoxy resin first please m8 cheers Lee
Does any one know how to make the resin not set because for me it sets just after I start to pour it into the pool
Thank you! I'll be on the lookout for some transparent paint
you sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!
