Imagine walking into a guitar shop and hearing this guy play like that! He's not just good, this guy is just another world away from the rest of us mere mortals. You can criticise this style or find faults in that technique, but Zakk Wylde is so good that the guitar just shits itself in fear when he walks in the room.
All the zakk Wylde haters should be forced to watch this, zakk Wylde is miles ahead of any of his contemporaries for sure he's has firm roots in the blues and metal unlike his contemporaries who rely mainly on annoying boring scales and speedy finger tapping rather than the overall sound, in simple terms zakks the man!
that's cool. I hear it all and find the soul in his speed. most people can't play fast and with emotion. He pulls it off masterfully and thank God it gives aspiring guitarists like me something to sttrive for in technique and speed.
im the dj in the video.. all was borrowed gear... the thing i remember is watching him, learning, and being inspired - after he left i tried so of the tricks and all i got was TWANG TWANG TWANG!!! he is sooo gifted!!
He was a Skynyrd/Ozzy fan as any kid was at that time, and he began with ozzy in 87, started Pride & Glory in 94' after ozzy retired, made on album with 'em, then disbanded, did the solo album Book of Shadows, toured with BOS and Ozzy 'till 98' Started BLS, and here we are ;) BTW; Zakk plays heavy/southern metal, dime played(in pantera) groove metal, with is alittle more heavier than HM, 'cause of the Death metal influences.
as stated in previos comments, its a SMALL MARSHALL amp (guitar, pedal and amp was borrowed from a local store and were the exact items requested by zakk - zakk was only carrying acoustic)
you are right, just a wahwah pedal...and the amp was a MARSHALL... a small one... not sure the name or model, but it was a 90s one... and had prob an 8 or 10" speaker in it... (all was on loan from a toledo music store... the guitar was sold and is still in toledo actually) hope that helps!
I went to a show last march 30 at the river plate stadium, argentina, in a festival called quilmes rock. He first played with his band black label society.... and the last band from the night was ozzy osbourne.
I totally agree with you man every thing that you said i wish Zakk would just do a couple blues songs like some standards just to see what it would sound like im not so into metal
When Zak left Ozzy the first time he spent months watching my friend Steve and copping his licks, which he admitted using on Ozzy's record when he rejoined. He still owes Steve a Les Paul, although Steve doesn't really need one... he has 6 or 7 already.
i was thinking the same thing. it looks like classic or deluxe but not standard. interesting, hope it is a classic because thats what im thinking of getting and whatever edition this is it sounds fantastic!
this guy is for fucking real...i saw him at ozzfest in 04 when he played for ozzys band...ozzy needed to take a break cause hes fucking 200 years old so he made Zakk entertain the crowd for 20 minutes. he played two guitars standing up side by side at the same time just like hes playing the guitar in this video...up and down the neck
when the guy walked in front of the cams mic, it had a phasing effect, like when a car goes by you with loud music...its a sound wave kinda thing. the wah came in after a minute
i will say it again - its a guitar he had never played before (a borrowed guitar, amp and pedal from a local music store - Crossroads Guitar Shop in Toledo Ohio) Zman
OMG! I think I recognized that 2st and 1nd tunes. That was Cumbya and Tip Toe Through The Tulips. I might be an Aggie but I'm no flunky. Oh, yeah! I mean, oh yeah, I forgot. I AM an Aggie flunky. My bad. Very good Zakk!!!
yngwie is clssically based ok thats ware his Blackmore influence comes from and um yeah he is extremly bluesy in his instruction dvd he has a whole section on just blues .
omg this is so amazing I mean there are some guitarists who inspire me to pick up my guitar and jam but when I hear zakk's solos i just wanna burn my guitar cuz i feel fuckin defeated!
those stacatto volume toggles were being done since the at least the late sixties. check out 'spirit in the sky' by norman greembaum if you dont beleive me.
Zakk's bends and vibratos are legendary man.
this kind of improv is amazing. zakk is as fast as they come but more importantly, musical and emotional in his playing.
i love how he incorporates country into these solos this and farewell ballad are my favorite solos of his
Zakk is the modern day Billy Gibons.. he just has that magic rock/blues touch!! MOJO baby! pure MOJO!
my mind has just been blown, and my soul purified. One of the greatest of all time.
I love his sound he gets, and his technique. I think he uses his wah pedal as a filter a lot in his work.
IMO best Zakk Wydle vid on utube
Zakk is unbelievable. They don't play like him any more.Kinda reminds me of a faster Robin Trower.Awesome man!
Very similar yes but I think he's more closer to Frank Marino Gary Moore etc.
zakk is the man... saw him at a guitar clinic a few years back, i said hi, he said hey... nothing else was said. but the connection was there. peace.
When they get that great at guitar, it's hard to say who's better. They're both fantastic!

this was AFTER pride and glory.... on the solo tour for this cd (do your research!) JOE HOLMES was Ozzys guitartist at the time!!
very good responce! i couldnt have said it better!!
best guitarplayer of all times!
try the pentatonic blues/hexatonic scale. its the minor pentatonic with an extra note. search for the tabs, they aren't hard to find.
