for those of you that don't know it, Zakk Wylde is the man. BLS was doing a show in Lincoln Nebraska at a bar called guitars and Cadillacs. I saw him walking back to the hotel. I was in my 1991 IROC Z28 with t-tops of course. I whipped a shiter, slammed on my brakes got out and said Zakk fucking Wylde! long story short, we chit-chatted for a bit, he was so cool he gave me free concert tickets for that night's show. I will never forget that moment, Zakk you are the man!
It's actually really nice to see a guitarist who clearly knows his stuff on one of these rig rundowns. Some guitarists, even like 20 year vets, barely even know whether they've got a Gibson or an Epiphone while they're holding it and asking them about their pedals is useless so it's cool seeing someone who knows every inch of his setup right down to the precise valves in his amp heads.
What I've come to really respect Zakk is that he actually uses some of his Epiphones live, unlike Slash who only uses them for photos and things like that.
and the funny part is those epiphones can take more of a beating than a gibson due to the deisign differences i got a les paul custom that suffered a massive fall and it barely sustained any damage but everything it hit on the way down was fucked up im surprised it didnt turn into a black hole that thing has so much mass
They're part of the show. They have very similar specs like EMG 81/85, mahogany bodies, oiled maple ncks, ebony fretboards, etc. A fe have Floyds and are diffrent shapes, but essentialy they're meant for show.Zakk's rig is pretty bare bones for all he does with the guitar.
@@richardsnyder9018 it's basic because no one in this thread is going to replicate him to the fullest. He is just an amazing guitarist, period. It's like saying the guitar makes the musician. No. Definitely not true.
Truth be told Zakk, you sound just as good through your big Marshall or Lee Jackson rigs or just playing through your practice amp - you still, and always will sound like YOU !!!
I understand what he's saying, when one is one with their instrument, what is coming out is pure feeling., so you want that signal loud, pretty, killer, and mean. But with feeling. I know he can play because I seen it first hand and he was one with that guitar, the guitar was an extension of his being. The signal was clean, mean and determined.
I so can respect him with his "Less is More" because so many guitarist use a TON of GIMMIC PEDALS... and would be completely lost without them. Zakk... you are the man... keep rockin!!! :)
You just can't go wrong with his set up. It's reliable & easy to use. I have set up several of the ZW guitars & everyone was spot on, very well made. That Flying V is the best one I've ever seen, Jackson included. It's a V with all the Les Paul Custom appointments, it looks amazing up close & sounds great too. I'm usually critical of Gibson QC, but all of the Zakk instruments I have ever encountered (even the Epi's) were top notch. He's got good taste in gear IMHO.
Two amplifier heads for each guitarist. Two amps gives you a stereo sound instead of a mono sound. Zakk wants a stereo sound for him and Nick. Plus, Zakk is a huge Marshall fan so that is all he uses.
this guy talks about his stuff like a race driver talks about his different setups and chassis. love how serious he takes his signature sound. hands down, one of the greats. he just ain't dead yet for those without ears to hear, to be on board. living legend here, people....
***** yes ....thats how i set mine too,and its less noise, but i have to set my gain at six otherwise it will start to make to much noise, but i dont know how he plays so loud and perfect,im still searching
Randy did use an MXR Analog Delay through one head and a Roland RE-201 Space Echo through another not the Maestro Echoplex. The Space Echo was placed to the left of his custom pedal board and tilted upwards.
@STOBEband he got rid of the knows because he never change the settings. the trimpots are all the way up. He said in an interview that his signature OD pedal does not change the tone of the guitar, it only add more gain so that's why he uses that setting.
I wonder if Zakk is running his chorus before the amp or post amp (fx loop)? If anyone knows please tell me. I have the Black Label Chorus pedal. Great pedal!
Mr. Consistency. I've never seen the knobs on a pedal capped off before. Lotta players mark them or tape them off. He knows what he likes and keeps it that way.
@adamtheboyfromdenmar LOL? You mean he's using two EVH pedals. The phase and flanger BUT hes using BLS/Zakk Wylde signature chorus, overdrive, wah,Marshall head,Gibson guitars,Dunlop strings and picks. What part of the video were you watching?
@Muso57 a lot of times they are. Some people will have a massive wall behind of cabs behind them with heads, and the heads won't be on. There is usually a halfstack in the back that is mic'd up.
@JerryBeatFreak Should check out Zakk's former tech Justin Manning. Worked for Zakk for several years, on the first string of Ozzfest tours etc. His band is up and coming ..called Crowned By Fire.
@GhostmakerX a while back i was drinking with my mates and BLS was playing the background, we would drink every time Zakk played a pinch harmonic. such a messy night :S
What I found strange in this rig rundown is that he didn't show his Dean Dime Razorback, for "In This River". But well, it is sure somewhere between those myriads of guitars.
pinch and artificial are pretty much the same. Of course you can get real technical about it and say that when you change the node point of the string and chime a harmonic that would be artificial. So a natural harmonic is at the 12th fret. But if you fret a string on the 2nd fret, touch the string at the 14th fret and pick the string that could be called artificial too.
@Mastercrz in a video i saw he took em off coz he kept moving them by acident on stage but each knob is set on max then with some stoppers so they dont move :)
@GhostmakerX exactly what I was thinking .. incredible how many guitars this guy takes on the road with him. you figure 2 would be enough to play the same old shit considering it is all pinch harmonics and EMG crunch all the time.
Obviously kids !!!! don't be ignorants okay ! Zakk is the man ! metal is his life , Clean or Overdrive - Doesn't matter , Zakk will make more metal than anything with pure fukking grit !!!!
I go out of six head but two ok maybe four I use three tubes per one head that separates the noise into four distinct sound effects that are not working on my hand and the other two large ones are in a holding temperature so it will get better with it and then I’ll be able to put them on my side and get back with the rest of my head and let me see what I can get done.
I see a cable issue on his pedal board. From the mxr delay and his dunlop wah. Zakk's tech should chisel out a slot for the output of the mxr carbon copy and chisel out a slot for input to the wah. Over time from heavy stomping wires inside the cables will break. Cool, pedal board design reminds of Boss powered board.
do you know what disturbs me? the threw a "reporter" that it shows that that he has CLEARLY ZERO experience over guitar/sound/amp and stuff zakk is speaking facts right here and the guy is just replying "ahmm, yeah, right" like bro make a valid question ffs

honestly id do the same id probably say Father WYLDE!!!!! where can i buy a bottle of black label septic tank?
He says "obviously" or "you know" when he talks, like when he uses a pinch harmonic when he plays the guitar.
lmao so true!
I actually "lol'd" at this...
It's like a tick at this point.
Who cares
thats fuckin funny as shit man

@@knocknevis7390 he was talking about effect on the pedal board...
"The steel curtain, apparently obviously as you can see" is the best part.
@DamageIncM I meannnn, his boss was father ozz... you ever heard him attempt to speak??
I like that Zakk refers to Randy Rhaods. Once a Randy fan, ALWAYS a Randy fan. Respect.
Truth be told Zakk, you sound just as good through your big Marshall or Lee Jackson rigs or just playing through your practice amp - you still, and always will sound like YOU !!!
This video feels so historical with Nick not in the band anymore and Zakk having his own guitar company and not being with Gibson anymore
Obviously.
You know
Y-know what I mean?
Great seeing Guitarist using their own signature gear 🔥 and Zakk knowing his pedal board / effect chain - didn’t expect anything else !

Ditched "you know" for "obviously" - this guy is phenomenal.
I think this man would put emgs on the fucking microphone if they let him do it. Anyway, I Love you, Zakk
I so can respect him with his "Less is More" because so many guitarist use a TON of GIMMIC PEDALS... and would be completely lost without them. Zakk... you are the man... keep rockin!!! :)
I like that he keeps his rig simple.
Love zakk! Less is more. Love this man.
Zakk Wylde obviously has some cool guitars!

43 "you know"'s and 23 "obviously"'s. I was bored and counted. Sorry...
What a kick ass guitar collection.
And why the hell is David Gilmour introducing Zakk? XD 0:31
Obviously I've never heard anyone say "obviously" so many times in such a shorts space of time, obviously. Great guy and fantastic guitarist.
this guy talks about his stuff like a race driver talks about his different setups and chassis. love how serious he takes his signature sound. hands down, one of the greats. he just ain't dead yet for those without ears to hear, to be on board. living legend here, people....
I'm still amazed at how much gain Zakk uses and never has had a noise suppressor in his rig.
i wonder how he does that
its all in the way how you set your amp...i dont think he plays with the gain at 10
No, but his overdrives have always been at max, that's why there's no knobs on his overdrives in his rig.
***** yes ....thats how i set mine too,and its less noise, but i have to set my gain at six otherwise it will start to make to much noise, but i dont know how he plays so loud and perfect,im still searching
He doesn't use a power supply for the pedals on the stage (as can be seen on the video). That reduces some noise.
"Less is more"....awesome advice when it comes to a guitar rig :) Rock on Zakk!
I think Zakk used the word "obviously" about 150 times! LOL! Great player...
+Glenn Ireland He reminds me of the "Apparently" kid who got interviewed on the news at a state fair. HAHA
Randy did use an MXR Analog Delay through one head and a Roland RE-201 Space Echo through another not the Maestro Echoplex. The Space Echo was placed to the left of his custom pedal board and tilted upwards.

Bolivian Marching Powder.
That is the coolest mic stand I have ever seen.
We need his signature "Munster Cable" it comes complete with a fire breathing dragon that comes out of your stack.
Bitchin head and cabs Zakk - your Marshall prototypes seem fucking killer!!! Looking forward to seeing you live this year!!!

Makes sense. Fewer effects means he can appreciate the individual sounds of each instrument.
That was friggin awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
@turlockca209 It's the wire the frets are made of, you can get diff thicknesses and heights.
@Muso57 a lot of times they are. Some people will have a massive wall behind of cabs behind them with heads, and the heads won't be on. There is usually a halfstack in the back that is mic'd up.

please correct me if im wrong but I counted 29 obviously's in 9 minutes....that takes skill right there.

What I found strange in this rig rundown is that he didn't show his Dean Dime Razorback, for "In This River". But well, it is sure somewhere between those myriads of guitars.
Zakk Wylde is AWESOME! you know..
I wonder if using the chorus before an ABY switch would accomplish the same thing as the two outputs from the chorus he has?
That is a boatload of guitars to take out on tour! Zakk could probably send half of them home and still get through a gig ok.
pinch and artificial are pretty much the same. Of course you can get real technical about it and say that when you change the node point of the string and chime a harmonic that would be artificial. @Mastercrz His personal ones are made without then because he has every setting turned right up anyway, no point in overcomplicating it.
Great set
He’s Zakk Wylde. The word “obviously” is now cool to say all the time
0:29 i knows he's playing stairway to heaven
It must be nice having the “brands” you love, come to you wanting to build you things with your name on it.
What sound does a cougar make? 4:09

@dragon7590 3:07 the EVH pedals. When I mean all EVH pedals, i mean all the pedals as Eddie Van Halen has realised!
He plays the stuff he endorses...thats special.
Standard D, Eb,Drop Eb, Drop C,Drop B, Drop A, Drop G
Ok guys. Take a shot whenever the interview says mhm. You'll get alchohol poisoning within 3 minutes of the video.
@deadman316 he only uses the when he plays guitar on In This River, but lately hes been playing it on piano instead
now that i think of it everything seems so OBVIOUS with Zakk Wylde
@SenthysizzerYeah he said "these are all Nicks he can give you the report on them" or something like that :)
such a gnarly dude... sounds like he had been on the white stuff before that interview though lmao
I think he made a cake before, obviously.
Only one complaint...where's the bulls eye and the camo les paul?
Great video
Obviously
11 years ago. I was hype for one of those Marshall heads. They go for 20k now if you can find someone who’s selling
I betcha that steel grate style on the face of the head and cabs is a tribute to Dimebags old Randall Warhead gear.
That's exactly what it is. Natural are on open strings, artificial/pinch are with the guitar fretted.
i could be wrong but i think zakk was on blow during this whole video
@bonnyguitar yeah, he had to switch to coffee and water instead of beer and booze because of his liver problems. He seems different now.
He says "obviously" about a lot of things that are not obvious.
he does say "obviously" a lot but he says "you know" a LOT more
