BTS had to cancel one of their concert date because Suga couldn’t perform. He wrote a heartfelt apology to fans and it was just so gut-wrenching. I never listened to rap until BTS and I love the rapline! I think knowing the lyrics, and knowing that they actually say important things make the rap songs more enjoyable, at least for me. I don’t think most of us would be upset if you go through the lyrics. Suga’s lyrics are always personal and real. I love that. Thank you!

The significance of The Last is that traditional Asian culture does not acknowledge mental health issues. So most people suffer in silence until they can't cope anymore.
People credit AgustD with saving them by normalizing open dialogue about depression.

I am not a fan of rap either...or I should say I wasn't until I heard BTS rap songs. What I love about this song and all of Suga's songs is the raw honesty he puts out to the world. He could easily hide behind the polished image of idol but he doesn't do that and I have mad respect for the vulnerability he shares with us. It takes courage to put your pain and mental health struggles on display for public scrutiny.

Suga is a deeply, deeply layered genius. This song starts at a calmer level & slowly builds until he's' just spittin out everything. I believe the beep word is su*c*de. As Heather Miller said, "This is Suga's story". How he began & where he went. I can't wait til we get to listen to "Daechwita" & "First Love". Daechwita is a masterpiece, both in song & the video. First Love makes a musician (and others) feel deeply. Ainsley said that she wants a doggie massage after her hard day at work, lol 💜💜💜

This is his real story. Some of us can sympathize with him. Mental illness is real, depression is real, back in my times people didn't believe those illnesses existed. I'm 58 years old, and found love and compassion through BTS lyrics. Yes some of us we have been in that side of the coin. I guess you have to experience sadness to be able to appreciate happiness. The beep is the forbidden word su*ci*de, As always thank you for your genuine reaction. Don't forget to love yourself 💜💜💜

This is why you hear the phrase 'BTS has something for everyone' and why they have such a massive fanbase. They don't play it safe and only sing about love and relationships or rap about s*x and money. I would love to get your reaction to Suga's track FIRST LOVE. It is more like poetry and made my cry a little. And definitely made Suga my bias. His solo song PEOPLE is also great.
I will always recommend tracks that I think someone may like, whereas others will recommend their own favourites no matter what. So you will definitely get a mixed bag!

You mentioned the musical progression but I wanted to point out if you notice the change in the tone of the lyrics themselves along with the instrumental..In the beginning when he is describing the time period that he attempted suicide, struggled w performing etc, the instrumental was slow ,dark and I'm missing a word but you get it..Then as the music speeds up his lyrics show acceptance of himself, being proud of what he is accomplishing and coming to terms with who he is as a person..Like saying I'm really ok now don't worry about me, look at all these things I'm doing achieving the things I dreamt of, I got this and fans I'll keep doing this for you💜..I will just say nothing this man does lyrically/instrumentally is unplanned this way..Since he writes/ produces music himself it's 100% all him in his lyrics and his music as well..Thanks for viewing this song

I feel like you'd get a lot more out of this song if you acutally knew more about the boys themselves. This song is so meaningful to fans because of how they care for the boys (Yoongi in this case) but without that context it will never hit as hard. I think people suggest songs they love for very personal reasons but you may not connect the same way because you just don't have the knowledge of what all they've been through. I think it would be good for you to do some "gettting to know BTS" videos if you truly want to understand. Obviously you can feel the passion in his voice and most ARMYs can't get through this song with a dry eye. He has talked openly about everything he mentions in this song, it's truly his story. He is a true gem and always says what he feels at the time, all boys are very self reflective which is what keeps them humble. All in that text is true, the questions, the missed performance because of a panic attack, the crushed shoulder he got doing a part time delivery job. "Show Me The Money" is a talent show for rappers. Suga is my bias, I love his extreme honesty. The whole D-2 mixtape he did is a masterpiece. "Strange" and "People" are some of my favourite tracks from him. "Strange" is a social commentary in form of a dialogue between him and RM. As most ARMY know Suga has suffered for many years with depression, anxiety and compulsion. After his panic attack had canceled the concert in Kobe, Suga went back to the venue when it was empty to relfect, he then had a short break and wrote a long letter for ARMY, and also referred to it in his song "The Last" .....
The translation of his letter is attached for you:
Hello, this is Suga. Many people were curious as to what I was doing on my break, and to simply put it, I walked a lot, slept a lot and thought a lot. I wanted to go on a trip to organize my thoughts before working on my mixtape. I also had a place I must go to. I wanted to do things I was able to do not as a 24-year old BTS’ Suga, but as a 24-year old Min Yoongi. It was a time where I looked back at myself. The things I will say now are things I wanted to share not as a singer to a fan or as BTS to ARMY, but to talk to you as human to human. I've always wanted to be a cool person to a lot of people. Having rationale thoughts and making rationale decisions in any situations. I wanted to live like my father. My father said to take a look around you when there's something to be happy about. Be calm and make rationale decisions when happy. The first day when "I need u" got 1st place, I took a look at my surroundings. Every minute I'm happy, I acted as if I'm not. When I'm sad I acted as if I'm not. Even if I like it, I acted as if I don't like it. I pretended to be cold-hearted and pretended to be strong. If a joy is shared, it will be doubled but if a sadness is shared, it won't get smaller. That's what I thought. I know I'm a person who's bad at expressing my emotions but I've been living that way and I thought it's right. One day, I can't exactly remember when, I was in a car with my father and he said "Yoongi, don't live like me". The first day of vacation. The first day ever since I was born, I drank with my family. It has been 6 years since I left home. We were all just chatting, listening to stories that we haven't heard of. The strong and cool father that I know, knows how to feel hurt and sad, how to feel happy and love.. 1.5-pyeong in the practice room, my studio is my wide meadows and narrow prison. I can do anything and at the same time, I can't really do anything. I can work on music thoughtlessly for 20 hours, but I can also sit there and not do anything but just thinking for 20 hours. I was 13 years old when I first started writing my own lyrics. When I listen to good music, I will feel really excited and I feel really happy more than anything. To me, music is my hope and my happiness, I also want to be someone's hope and happiness. Actually I'm someone who would just walk away rather to crash and feel pain. Anyone hates being hurt and I don't want to get hurt. In "Nevermind", "If you feel like you a going to crash then accelerate more". Perharps, that's actually what I wanted to say to myself. The most upsetting time for me when I face a large number of people, is when I face myself who isn’t able to be fair to everyone. I didn’t want to hurt anyone, but there are times I couldn’t do that. I think I’m still a person that lacks in many things. The second day of the concert in Kobe... I don’t think I’ve ever slept deeply after that day. Could it be because of the fact that I gave a wound to many people? Whenever I fell asleep, I would wake up with cold sweat. Because I already once have not been able to go on stage before and have hurt many people, I said that I’ll go up (to perform) no matter what situation arises. Everyone tried to stop me. I really cried a ton at the situation of not being able to go up on stage. And I know crying is losing. It’s really easy for me to cope with my own sorrow, but witnessing those who love me in sadness is very hard. I made them sad, once again. If I could go back to that day, I would go on stage no matter what. So there was just one place to go. I went to Kobe during my break. Many people tried to stop me from going, but I didn’t want to be ashamed of myself any longer. So I just went to Kobe without planning. It was my second time visiting the concert venue after a concert. The first was Ax Hall at late night after finishing the first Red Bullet concert. The second time was the Kobe World Memorial Hall, at where I failed to perform. I hate becoming a numb person. I didn’t want to take the love and these glorious days for granted. I didn’t want to be a numb person. That’s why I visited the venues again on my own. (T/N: He’s saying he doesn’t want to take all the love he’s receiving as granted, he really wants to appreciate every single love he gets. He’s meaning numb in the way by how he wouldn’t be able to feel what the fans feel about him. He’s basically saying he wants to appreciate every love he gets from his fans) I liked being on stage, and I still do. When I was 17 and performed in front of 2 people I stood proudly and made eye contact with them during my performance. However after my debut I feel that I have not been righteous towards myself. I think it may be because I knew better than anyone that I wasn’t perfect. And then on the day of the first performance of HYYH on stage I made proud eye contact with the audience that I didn’t do in quite a while. But after the second day of the Kobe concert when I was unable to stand on stage, I didn’t have the courage to confidently confront the large number of people. So that’s why I visited Kobe, the concert hall again. I kept wandering around the area by the concert hall from the time I arrived there until the time our performance was due to begin that day. From the ticketing booth to the entrance and the concert hall - I wanted to feel the same emotions as you all from every nook and corner. I felt many emotions. Happiness, the excited nervousness felt while waiting for the performance, sadness, resentment, anger, regret, etc. I wanted to understand you all, and I do understand. So I’m sorry and apologetic, for I am not a perfect human being. I’m a person who is weak but acts strong. Once again I realized that I was a person who’s lacking. Although I’m not religious, I prayed at that place. After all, at the end, it was a fated day. Even if it’s ended, let’s not let this heart become numb. To me, who wanted to spend every moment alone, you all were taking up quite a large part (of my mind). Age and gender, nationality and religion, what language you use - all of that isn’t important to me. "Whether you're young or old, whether you have a hidden child, I don't care", haven't I said this already. That day, we unexpectedly had a Music Bank broadcast and I boarded a plane and returned a day before planned. I returned after organizing my many thoughts. Once again, while feeling that I’m a blessed person, I felt that I need to be a person who lives every moment feeling thankful. This is the moment I realizied the fact that 24-year old Min Yoongi, who hates being an adult, is standing in front of the threshold to being an adult. Thank you for making me a blessed person, ARMY. Although I’m never able to say this because I’m bad at expressing myself. Here I am conveying my feelings and thoughts once more through a piece of less-than-satisfactory writing. I will live while being thankful of every moment as I am such a lacking human being. I love you, ARMY.

Sometimes watching other reactors' videos will help you to appreciate a song more (this has happened to me quite a few times, I have started to like a song a lot more after watching some reactions). For this song, I recommend checking out JohnReavesLive and Anthony Ray's reactions to it. Also, I suggest you start reacting to the docu-series Rise of Bangtan, it will help you understand the context for these songs a lot better. The series will show you why and how Suga would have a song about depression, suicide and social phobia. The series documents their journey in chronological order, starting from their trainee years before their first album came out. It is fan-made, by a professional editor who has been a longtime fan of BTS. So the series is extremely well-made, it looks like it could be a show on Netflix.
The beeped out part in this song is his psychiatrist asking him if he's had suicidal thoughts.

For my personal taste, rap seems a bit monotonous, but I like BTS's rap, it's more dynamic and I like it better when the song combines vocals and rap, more than just rap... but there are several songs from the rap line that I enjoy and I'm not an specialist but I think they are really good at it... so with these guys my musical taste has expanded a little more

I didn’t like rap before Bts. I didn’t get it. But this, I get. It’s poetic, therapeutic, cathartic. It’s musical in the phrasing and the lyrics mean something, raw for sure. There are a few that I would not recommend to you by both Suga and Rm because the cursing is more than you probably want on your channel. A little crude. It works in their lyrics and I don’t mind cursing. This one is mild in that respect. Some were written while teenaged and the graphic language is no surprise, but I’m a city person, and I raised a son who lives to curse, so it’s not shocking to me. I appreciate you experiencing it with us.

Same. Never liked rap (still can't say that I do) - but I like BTS' rap. Maybe I only like rap in Korean and only BTS' at that, haha. In general, rap sounds monotonous and kind of dull to me, so I was really surprised and impressed how rhythmic, lively and dynamic BTS' rap line is (their actual voices and delivery) - especially how raw their voices can get, like in this song. It's not just about spitting (though that can be impressive in itself) but kind of like poetry. Korean syllables sound so good in rap - and when occasionally combined with English, it sounds even cooler (for us English-speaking folk... there are hooks we can grab on to).
I use the words "therapeutic" and "cathartic" to describe this song all the time as well. As for swearing - it totally annoys me when people cuss in between every other word or every other sentence. BTS don't do that. So when they actually use swear words in their (rap) songs, it has actual impact. Again, therapeutic and cathartic (or just expressing frustration). That's what swearing is for - to release pent-up emotion (even Audrey Hepburn -- icon of lady-like elegance -- swore once in a while, so I've heard 😆). It's one thing when gentlemanly people like the BTS members swear occasionally and another when it's just part of someone's everyday speech. Oh, just want to add: beyond the words and delivery, many BTS rap songs have such awesome production musically, it grabs you anyway - it sounds imaginative and creative... not just your regular old dull delivery over non-distinctive beats or instrumentation. Like this song, and Ddaeng, and Outro: Tear...the production raises it to a whole other level.

This year alone they’ve put out 20+ songs already and another new album is about to drop. So pretty soon they’ll be 100 BTS songs to choose from splitting up our votes and giving the win to Black Pink or Stray Kids who has very few songs.
Or maybe, don’t add anymore new BTS songs to the list until we get a lot of the on here completed.
