Edit: Always with his hands in his pockets. When he was on the Williams team he always put his hands in his pockets when he was on the podium. Three time F1 World Champion Nelson Piquet. Nelson always considered Niki Lauda as a kind of father in Formula One. Nelson learned from one of the best Formula One drivers of all times. That's why Nelson also became one of the best F1 drivers of all times. Both Lauda and Piquet were true geniuses developing the car. A few months ago, in an interview Nelson couldn't contain his tears, remembering his friend, the great Niki Lauda.
Just like probably Nikki would have remembered him.

R.I.P., Niki Lauda. Nelson Piquet is really a transparent guy in his feelings, whether good or bad. And this video gives the real dimension of the thrill of the champion in the farewell of the friend also three times champion.
The video says well who the Great Nelson Piquet is: while the others capriciously in elegance and sobriety, Nelson shits for all, and stripped of formal concerns, paraded only and only his emotion for the departure of his friend.
And I didn't even know the level of friendship between them .... that is clear in this video.
Rewatching this hits harder... was planning on doing an interview with him for my final... one of the few childhood icons that actually replied to emails and was nice. :(

You can feel the respect those driving band of brothers have for Niki. Real fans who were brought up watching Niki and Nelson will appreciate the jeans and jumper.
Somehow, someway the sands of time must overtake us as we live out our lives doing the things we most enjoy.........
Niki loved racing. He loved flying. He loved life.
Even after his terrible accident, he was unphased by it all. He was indeed driven to be the very best he could be. One man stood out though that would drive him to be even better. Some say James Hunt was no mere mortal. That he was from above. Cast upon this world to push Niki further and further until he accomplished his goals. Indeed, James was Niki's friend. Very few things could make the Englishman weep, but on this day, James is crying.......
Niki was very much by the book. Whereas, James had this devil may care attitude. The two constantly clashed in the beginning. Both on and off the track. However, after Niki's near fatal wreck on the Nuremberg Ring on that faithful day, James was changed. He realized that he needed Niki almost as much as Niki needed him. The two were insufferable. Niki with his curt no bull shit answers to the press and James with his playboy stay up all night party and get in the car race like no tomorrow attitude. Ying and Yang these two were.
Yet, both were exceptional Formula One drivers. They loved racing each other. Pushing each other. James thought Niki was the typical stuffy driver. Whereas, Niki thought James was a childish boy who took chances.
I remember both Niki and James. I cannot talk about one without not speaking of the other. Inseparable these two were. In terms of actual hands on racing, both drivers were on the top.
I'll miss Niki. He was a brilliant driver and an excellent pilot and a good friend to so many.........🇩🇪
God rest his soul and may he find that peace we all seek🌹🌹

Piquet já disse que não foi ao funeral do Ayrton porque com todos os atritos que tiveram, seria hipocrisia da parte dele ir no funeral, até porque os dois nunca se reaproximaram depois dos atritos que tiveram, principalmente com aquela famosa entrevista onde Piquet disse que Ayrton era gay. Diferente do que aconteceu entre Senna e Prost que tiveram chance de se reaproximar antes do Ayrton falecer. Isso não tem nada a ver com o Piquet ir ao funeral do Lauda, simplesmente podia ser amigos, ter contato, diferente do que ocorria com o Ayrton. Lembrem-se: Piquet lamentou muito o falecimento do Ayrton na época, tem entrevistas sobre isso, só ter um pouco de boa vontade, e menos preguiça e procurar aqui no RUclips.
Última coisa: desde quando ir no funeral de alguém ou não ir, significa gostar mais ou menos das pessoa? Coisa mais estúpida essa delimitação.

Niki Lauda... the man with the biggest courage ever in formula one.
I always like to watch some old racecar drivers on youtube: niki lauda, ayrton senna, jackie ickx, jackie stewart, ken miles and many more... all of them are real heros, really big drivers and tough guys.
But for me nobody is as tough as Niki Lauda was. To go back, put the helmet over his mostly open wounds, sit in the same model of car and go back beat the crap out of it.
the way he came into f1.... the way he has to fight almost his entire life... Niki Lauda you are the toughest guy ever!

35 anos atrás (exatamente) eu estava em Montreal para o GP de 1984. Lembro que o Piquet e o Lauda ficaram o tempo todo conversando, sempre que estavam fora do carro, as vezes sentados num gramado do outro lado da pista em frente aos boxes improvisados (tinham dois 'boxes' na época, o paddock e boxes a céu aberto na reta em frente a reta de chegada) e na corrida domingo chegaram em primeiro e segundo. Uma das grandes amizades da F1 moderna. Pouca gente sabe, mas o Piquet tinha muitos amigos na F1, baste ver ele e o Alesi juntos.

Eu tive o prazer de ver ao vivo, no autódromo do Rio, 2 vitórias do Piquet e a participação do Niki Lauda! Eles foram companheiros na Brabham, no início da carreira do Piquet em 78 (Lauda era mais antigo na F1,desde 72-73)
