What Fangio did without a doubt puts him forever in position 1 on the podium. Start racing in F1 when it was just invented and being a 40-year-old veteran. He competed 8 years of which 2 were out due to an accident and won 5 titles and 2 subtitles with 4 different brands at a time when finishing the race alive was a true miracle. And the Nürburgring feat is the greatest feat ever done in F1. Simply the best of all time. "El Maestro"
Sadly Tazio was born too early. What he did in 1935 at the Nürburgring, equals Fangio's win at the same track.

Fangio was changing teams like socks, and winning 5 championships for 4 different teams.

It seemed that whenever he jumped into any car, he won a championship.

@SoakedinBleach You are clueless. Senna polled 3 times in the first three races. The Williams had suspension problems, in additions Schumacher was cheating in the Benetton using illegal launch control and the fuel valve for fast pit stops.

Fangio ran 51 Grand Prix and won 24. This ratio races/victories remain unbeaten. And this achievement driving a huge motor with 4 thin rubbers, a wheel, surrounded by high octane fuel. He was really "el Maestro"
All done in cars that resembled metal bathtubs. NO driver can ever be " The greatest of all time" but he is a very special figure in F1 history. A man of great humility by all accounts. I strongly believe in the ethos of sportsmanship which is why i was never a fan of Michael Schumacher.
Don't forget, he was beating drivers MUUCH younger than him when he got his fifth title...

@@snowballthecat7542 it is not the driver it is car now , all this because of FIA rules change.every driver using backmarker teams to get a contract from midfield teams and and upper teams. Only checo did a great job when he joined force india now aston martin he made them from backmarkers to podium finishers . Probably one of the most underrated driver in this decade.

Exactly. Great drivers and heroes all of them. Team, car and driver must all perform together on highest level to achieve victory.

They were dominant in the 60s and 70s
Well, they where successful during a time where it was more important to find innovative ways to make the car faster. Nowadays it's (thanks to a regulatory that forbids practically any innovation) only about who finds the most creative ways to push as much money as possible into changing plates of a few mm^2 just enough to gain advantage while still being inside the reglement.
Ok, given, Lotus were so fast for the most time because they were notorious deathtraps ( approximate quote by Lotus-Owner Chapman: Every inch a car can drive beyond the finish line is unnecessary weight"), but nowadays it's simply not possible to win anything without a multi-billion Dollar company backing you.
The official record books show the later ones were won by the John Player Special JPS cars. Chapman hated this , even though this was due to his sell out. Reflects on the character of Chapman. Even Rindt had lots to say about Chapman.

Chapman was constantly walking on this small edge between absolute brilliance and total insanity.

It's fairly evident how in the modern era, even that during the v10 and v8, how clear technology has played a role in team domination. Aside from 2 years Renault and 1 year Brawn, you had consecutive strings of 5 Ferrari, 4 RedBull, and 6+ Mercedes.
The 80s and early 90s McClarens were the same thing
The Red Bull ones are also thanks to Renault engines
Surprising, considering its almost a spec formula, that mercedes are still at the top. Just. 😉
This only made Formula 1 a money game and no longer a game of talent, strategy and intelligence. I hope things change next year, as there will be a budget ceiling.
@@moisesmaciel5123 It's not been a game of talent for a very very long time, if EVER... You have rose tinted glasses if you think F1 was ever about anything other than a few teams each year. Regulation refreshes often jumble the grid up a bit but the team that gets their head around any given regs the quickest and the most ingenious will then be dominant or damn near dominant for a few years
Oh God Senna! A God. I was privileged to watch him race and win in 1986. I was so young, but immediately in love with this special soul. Jesus I'm still heart broken. Sometimes we are just left with huge ugly scars on our hearts. 27vyears today.

I never knew Fangio won 4 titles in a row. I love the video of him driving around the airfield circle. Denny Hulme was a very quiet guy around crowds, when he started racing touring cars in Australia in the late 80’s , no commentators knew how successful he was. A great & very aggressive driver. Not one of those guys did not deserve to win a championship. Some had great cars but everyone was a brilliant driver.
he almost won 1950. He finished 3 rces of 6 races. The 3 races that he could finish were in 1st place. So in 1950 he has 100% of victories. Finished that year in 2nd place, who knows what could happend if he finished 2 races more, maybe another championship

I was surprised many years ago reading what Moss said about him at the Nurburgring in the Mercedes. Something to the effect that Fangio would slow down before the start finish, and then take off on different parts of the track . Even when I was a teenager I was surprised Moss wrote that. He hardly had a small ego. I would have loved to have seen Fangio at his peak. You are right though, 53 years old from memory yet he was clearly so far better than anybody at that time.
I was standing by the finish line in the paddock at Suzuka in 2000 when Schumacher crossed the line to win Ferrari’s first title in two decades. All the people in the tribuna / stand got to their feet and applauded.

Ayrton senna quase nunca desistia de uma corrida enquanto outros pilotos arregavam por causa de chuva, vencia mais corridas em menos tempo, e graças a ele novos sistemas de segurança na formula 1 existem. Ele fez história, foi um patriota brasileiro, comemorava segurando a bandeira do Brasil, já foi aceito como melhor da formula 1 até mesmo por grandiosos pilotos atuais, e já foi homenageado pelo Hamilton, que hoje é um dos maiores, se não o maior piloto da atualidade, que segurou a bandeira do Brasil durante uma corrida, além de admitir que a inspiração dele é o ayrton senna..

Jim's tracking crash in Germany ended a spectacular career.
A young Ayrton looked up to him, became a racer himself, and would likewise have a spectacular career that ended too shortly.

Most of the champions are from South America and Europe. In some ways it looks similar to the champions of the World Cup.
Same with tennis. But go look up badminton, a sport that has been dominated by Asian countries (+ Denmark)

@@jestertheslacker In fact, I as a Brazilian have a lot of admiration for Emerson Fittipaldi, Piquet, Senna, Barrichello and Massa. They were wonderful years for Brazil in F1, of course you also hear sad moments like GP Austria 2002, GP Brazil 2008, Singapore Gate, Fernado Is Fast Than You. But that doesn’t take away the deserved respect that they deserve

Behind MS were refuelling strategy master Brawn and Rory Byrne who built bulletproof cars. V10s were amazingly unreliable mostly, so surviving cars were key element of success.
