As for Clark driving the best cars that is not true. In 1964 the Lotus broke down with an oil leak with a few laps left costing him another F-1 title which would have been 3 in a row. Man... I wish I was born in Ayrton Senna's days. I didn't know how big he was in F1. I mean, Hamilton, Vettel, Schumacher and Fernando Alonzo are all great, but they don't seem to be as impressive as Senna.
They are as good as Senna ... I was around to see Senna and he was my favourite driver ... in fact Hamilton and Michael are better.... Hamilton is actually much better - the best we have seen so far - he is fast like Senna and smart like Prost.
I also was around when Senna was there. Except in Brazil, I would say that in the rest of the world at that time he was not more popular (for practical matters) than Schumacher was or Hamilton is right now. His death turned him into the "myth" that he is now. I also think Hamilton is better overall.
Schumacher was equally good if not better overall. Senna was raw speed, and it looks like, you like him or not Hamilton is the best. Race craft, raw speed, consistency. Hamilton got everyrthing, he will break every records there is to break. I am a huge Schumacher fan

No way to tell. Senna was amazing, yes. But there's too many variables. This video visualization of him racking up the poles is pretty incredible to watch in "real time" though. Damn.
early 90's you can see alot of same names, definetly the most dominant at the time, Gerhard Berger, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost & definetly my favorite and best of all time driver, Ayrton motherfucking Senna
This just shows: - the brilliance of Clark, Fangio and especially Senna, - the level of Mercedes dominance, not seen ever before (incl. Ferrari and RBR eras)
Hamilton already had like 35 poles before the hybrid era even began. Without dominant cars. His teammates at the same time got as many as 6…COMBINED. This just shows the brilliance of Lewis Hamilton. Stop giving credit to Mercedes, Hamilton easily the fastest driver since Senna.
Senna was like Messi, an alien in a whole another category. Hamilton/Schumacher is/were like Cristiano Ronaldo: real fucking good sportists, the most dedicated of their generation with incredible will to win and be the best.
It's amazing that Schumacher didn't take a single pole position during Senna's lifetime! Such a shame we never saw this championship battle played out.
Schumi was a rookie and didn't have top-flight car. Just the same way that Senna wasn't "crushing it" until he got with McLaren... 10000% agree that we really missed out on the Senna vs. Schumi rivalry that could have been. I think it would have been more epic than Senna vs. Prost. Schumi was basically Prost version 2.0 anyway...
Actually Senna didn’t like Schumi because he saw him as the biggest threat and both were super aggressive when it came to defending. It would’ve been more ugly than entertaining. They had already gotten into fights off track though Schumi respected Senna a lot.
pure emotion, little fact.. being able to win and survive is what makes a racer great ... Hamilton is number one and deserves to be there. Great racer, great team , smart and humble,
Also, not regarding F1, but in racing in general, Stefan Bellof has to be the fastest driver we never got to see. He beat Senna and mansell in diffrent classes before his fatal accident. But this is ofcourse speculation. I thought I wouldn’t do justice to him to not mention what could have been.

@@bmcomm1 It's just how things went, in the early 90s the top drivers were Senna, Prost, Mansell, Berger etc...and they held the top seats at Ferrari, Mclaren, Williams, the young guns coming to the sport were relegated to the B and C teams. In 94 you had a vacuum at the top, with Senna's passing away, Prost retiring, and Mansell leaving to IndyCar. Many of these seats were filled by those young guns, Damon Hill, Mika Hakkinen, David Coulthard. Schumacher, like Senna before him was quick from the get go, he was very competitive in the Benetton from his first full season in F1.
Interesting to follow the name of René Arnoux, who was always a hot candidate for a pole or fastest lap with the turbo Renault… However they had massive reliability issues. And such he was never relevant for he championship there. For 1983 however, he moved to Ferrari being third in points!

That's the easy thing to say. Let's not also forget the massive differences in vehicles for each era. What would Fangio be able to accomplish in a modern car? How would Schumacher have done in something from the '60s era? Where would Hamilton be if he came about mid '70s? Etc... We all know Senna would be a monster in any era.
Senna could take as many laps as he wanted for most (all?) of his career. Schumacher had to deal with 5 or 6 different qualifying formats in his, including that stupid "one lap with your race fuel load" one.
Senna - 65 PP / 10 full season and 3 races /162(161) races , Schumacher - 68 PP / 19 season /308 (306) races, Hamilton - 73 PP / 13 season /250 races, anyone still has doubts who is the best here?
Brilliant piece of work! I figured I'd hear a brief overview of the top ten with graphics showing the current standings, but watching the list evolve over time was fascinating! Senna's results impressed the most. Considering what opponents he had and how difficult the cars were. Schumacher and Hamilton are no match for him. It's not even worth arguing about. The only one more impressive than Senna is Fangio. Considering that in Fangio's time, every race was someone's last.

first year with a shit car and 3 years with a middle car(lotus) only 4 years with the best car of the grid.
@JT
"....so start in pole and finish in pole, but Senna usually fought his way to victory...."
C'mon man. Senna won 29 races when he was on pole! Only twelve when he was not. I'm not saying he wasn't great or that he didn't have to fight for the wins. But what you said simply isn't true.
@@no5150bozos, many of the statements made about Senna are clearly exaggerated. Like you, I never mean to say he is not a legend, but much of what is said about him is exaggerated or even false. For some reason, his fans just refuse to accept numbers, and even make unsustainable justifications for when he doesn't top a list.
Senna moved the goalpost into a different dimension.
How can Senna earn a lot of pole position driving a Lotus?
Pure speed
the cars was prepared differently for qualifying and for the race.
@@JonePolvora no, Lotus had a much inferior car, senna was incredibly good, and even with a horrible car he got the poles
In turbo era, they could achieve about 1000HP+ in the qualifying lap. But yes, Senna was an awesome pilot.
because people don't know what it takes to be a racing driver
51 years and still only 4 above Jim clarke, and he only raced 11 races a year.
In the absolute best cars you clown, and from day one of his career. It was an usual Grand Prix if more than 2 or 3 cars even finished on the same lap in those days, sometimes only 2 or 3 cars finished at all. Go check race results from the period and live in a world of reality.
@@markmark5269 Why call him a clown?
Always surprised how fast and good Stirling Moss was, he was primarily a sports car drive, not many years in F1.
Fangio raced even less and achieved 29, both great champions
@@markmark5269 There were only 10 races per year from 1963 thru 1965. The year Clark won his two Championships. His winning percentage, laps lead, and pole positions led Time to name him the best formula one driver in history. I believe there were only six-eight races when Fangio raced. As for Clark driving the best cars that is not true. In 1964 the Lotus broke down with an oil leak with a few laps left costing him another F-1 title which would have been 3 in a row. Surtees won the title in a Ferrari and Graham Hill was no slouch in the BRM. The 1966 and 1967 Lotus were terrible cars For Clark. Hill getting a revamped Lotus in 1968 winning the F-1 title. And remember this Clark was second at Indy in 1963 and won the race in 1965. The only driver to win the F-1 championship and Indy in the same year.
I am a huge Schumacher fan
john cale Hamilton was outclassed by Button & Rosberg - he’s also a massive racist
Ayrton Senna ♥️🙌
Ayrton Senna is 4 times champion, despite the scoundrel Balestre removed him, taking care of his friend tricky Prost. They were so scary of Senna that removed him from races for 6 months, lol.
1 time world champion you mean prost outscored him in 88 and 89 and he cheated his way into his second tite, dude a massive fraud.
Dude had a limited race IQ which is most likely why he died and prost someone with far higher race IQ still lives.

Agreed
No Bellof was faster than senna
No way to tell. Senna was amazing, yes. But there's too many variables. This video visualization of him racking up the poles is pretty incredible to watch in "real time" though. Damn.
no
Tom Geboers he wasn’t. Ayrton and Bellof had the opportunity to test the same car and Ayrton drove much faster.
No other driver compares to Senna, such a legend!
early 90's you can see alot of same names, definetly the most dominant at the time, Gerhard Berger, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost & definetly my favorite and best of all time driver, Ayrton motherfucking Senna
And now mercedes 1,2 even schumi was so good he was close to being champ in 2006 brawn and schumi the immortal double
@Leandrinho that's just a lie. Do you know anything at all about F1 car history .... apparently not.
@@markmark5269 what lie? Everybody talks about amazing Senna
10:16 this is where the video ends for me.
for me too T - T
My childhood ended that day. I felt that as if a close friend of mine had died.
This just shows:
- the brilliance of Clark, Fangio and especially Senna,
- the level of Mercedes dominance, not seen ever before (incl.
I think Prost can join all these!
@guering Absolutely well put!
Actually Senna was both Messi and Ronaldo, he was the most dedicated and talented driver ever, his life was racing.
@@GroovesAndLands Senna with a Lotus did more 10 pole position and his competition (Prost in McLaren and Mansell-Piquet in Williams) so...
Actually Senna didn’t like Schumi because he saw him as the biggest threat and both were super aggressive when it came to defending. It would’ve been more ugly than entertaining. They had already gotten into fights off track though Schumi respected Senna a lot.
Fangio, Hill, Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton whoosh....
You mean clark instead of hill i suppose :)
Whoosh what?? With so many more race ofthe senna and shumacher years
jerome2022 Vettel isn’t doing too bad either. 🤔
Fangio (5), Senna (3), Schumacher (7), Prost(4).

Hamilton may have a zillion poles, Senna will be the No.1 FOREVER.
Senna died at the peak, he would eventually have become unbeatable. All he needed were a few more years. Legend.
@Zulqarnayn Nadal Prost and weak reads funny considering his place in the list.
@Zulqarnayn Nadal lmao you are completely clueless and dumb
pure emotion, little fact.. being able to win and survive is what makes a racer great ... Hamilton is number one and deserves to be there. Great racer, great team , smart and humble,
There is only 1 God of F1 and that's Senna. 🇧🇷campeão do mundo🇧🇷
Airton Senna número 1!!!!Brasil..
Imagine if Ayrton Senna had the equivalent of a Mercedes AMG car for his whole career........................................
Senna still kills it in poles/races no one comes close
I would argue Fangio/Clark. Maybe even Sir Jackie Steward and Sir Stirling Moss
@@nfsrival1499 Stewart no, Moss no Fangio yes. But consider that Fangio's career of 51 grand prix is a smaller sample size than Senna's total pole positions...not taking anything away from Fangio but he had a abnormally very short successful career, no one will ever beat his wins/starts ratio either.
Regarding Bellof yeah sure hard to disagree
No one races death traps in a t shirt, slacks, leather gloves, leather helmet, goggles, and loafers either.

Seeing Mika get 26 in 2 years is crazy imagine if he stayed in F1
MIka had 165 entries (1991-2001) which is 3 more than Senna. I don't think he would eventually have more poles than Senna even if he ran for twenty more years.
Jaboile was faster and a better race driver than Arnoux, just a fact. then Prost came along, and the same, faster and better than Arnoux.

Schumacher - 68 PP / 19 season /308 (306) races,
Hamilton - 73 PP / 13 season /250 races,
anyone still has doubts who is the best here?
Fangio was in top 3 for about 40 years, and he is driver from era with less than 10 races in a season. Crazy...

Brilliant piece of work! I figured I'd hear a brief overview of the top ten with graphics showing the current standings, but watching the list evolve over time was fascinating! I watched the entire video without pausing or taking a break and I was spellbound the entire time. You could track the current state of the sport during each time period by the names moving up the list and also the changes in fortune as drivers stopped moving up for many reasons, some tragic. The music was perfect, too - excellent post!!!!
Senna actually knew someone would make this video, he just tried to race on the leader board, frightening genius
I am happy to see in almost all comments (if not all) that people remember Senna as the most appreciated person in F1 history and as a human also. He deserves it. You are all fantastic.

But Senna was something else. Anyone, even a child, watching him drive would promptly know he was the best of all time.

Senna alive, would be the absolute record holder for poles.
When senna died Michael had raced him in 91,92,93,94 but never got any poles, only once he was gone did he get p1, it then took him 12 years to match senna’s total. Don’t think he would have managed if Ayrton had lived.
Senna : 10 years
M. Schumacher : 17 years
Senna's results impressed the most. Considering what opponents he had and how difficult the cars were. Schumacher and Hamilton are no match for him. It's not even worth arguing about. The only one more impressive than Senna is Fangio. Considering that in Fangio's time, every race was someone's last.
You can already see that ayrton senna is the best, he spent 10 years just to do that number of first positions, while the other drivers took longer
Ayrton holds the record for the highest number of poles in a row, with eight, won between the 1988 Spanish Grand Prix and the 1989 US Grand Prix - coincidentally, in this race, Senna made his 34th pole and passed the then-record holder Jim Clark. Senna Legend....
