- On February 19th 1979 11-year-old Norman Ollestad Jr, 43-year-old Norman Senior and his 30-year-old girlfriend Sandra took off from the Santa Monica airport headed for the mountains of Big Bear.

What an awesome dad. His lessons and teachings saved his sons life.
Some parents try to shelter their kids from stuff like this but the greatest thing you can do for your child his teach them how to survive in a crisis. Best lesson you could ever teach your child.
Other than the title of the video, When you would think Sandra would survive, it’s a tragedy and hearing this tale truly was heartbreaking.
What a horrifying ordeal for a child, I hope Norman grew up to live a happy & successful life.

Hockey in Santa Monica? Smells weird… i could be wrong but living here for nearly 40yrs that’s a first Ive heard of it… ice skating or hockey in cities around Santa Monica, yes.
