Great idea, everyone needs some time to themselves, we appreciate any videos you make.
So nice of you
I personally have found over the past year that trying to make a small business out of my lure painting and lure building has really taken the fun out of it for me. I just don’t enjoy doing like I did when it was just my hobby. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience?
YES! I just can’t see having to pump lures out at a rate that would be with the effort unless I had someone else on the retail side do it for me. So I just stockpile lures and get better on the meantime.
That's what happens when a hobby becomes a job. I would love to be a steelhead or musky guide and build rods and lures for a living... however, I know I would wake up in the morning and tell myself I don't want to go into work because the fun I once had is now my job.
Never thought it was a good idea to mix hobbies and work. After all, we enjoy our hobbies as a way to relax after work.
Back in the 70s, I could have made 5 times my hourly wage tying flies. I had tied a couple of dozen for sale and was quickly inundated with orders! Having to tie dozens of each pattern got old real fast, so I tied enough orders to pay off a nice rod, reel, and line outfit and quit.
I've made a couple of cedar strip canoes and kayaks for relaxation with the intention of selling them but have refused to setup a production line.
My thoughts are that it's perfectly fine to sell off extras that you don't need to make a bit of cash or pay for materials/equipment but to have to make stuff to fill an order crosses a line from hobby into work and I don't want to go there.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers!
This is what commercial fishing did to me a long time ago. It took a while and a change of location to rediscover the purity of what I love about fishing and to see the fish as more than money.
I know if I do sell some it will never be a career. I will always be a hobbiest selling a few to just pay for wood and supplies. But I enjoy making the lures and I'm beginning to see the channel evolving into a channel where lure making is the focus and everything else will just be supplemental content.
I have always looked forward to Friday morning's because you have been so faithful at posting great content. However, I have given advice to many volunteers to NOT overdo it to the point of burnout! A person has only so much time, priorities, and other responsibilities. I will continue to be thankful for the content, entertainment, and information you provide.
Thanks.
Thank you for all the hard work, immensely appreciated. Watched them all, repeatedly. Especially masterclasses.
Much appreciated!
I’ll be waiting with anticipation to see the new format; thanks so much for all the detailed information in the past videos.
Thanks Franco! I love your material, and have learned a ton watching you and your work. Keep it fun, keep it real.
Will do...thanks
Franco……..I’m thankful for the wealth of information you have given to us lure builders. I get it…..I work full time, fish, build lures, and take care of my “honey do” list, and I don’t always get to see the videos on Friday………Even a really good and lengthy monthly would be great. Don’t burn yourself out…….This is supposed to be fun……..not hard work. Again……thanks for all you are doing.
I appreciate that!
Franco - Your content is amazing! There's lot's of lure making channels out there, but none that address the engineering behind the lure! Thanks for all your effort!
Thank you, I try to offer accessible and usable information for everyone, not just the long time builders or naturally talented artist types.
Thanks for all the great content that you put out. I’ve learned a lot about this hobby over the years from you thanks for all you do.
I appreciate that!
Like to say thanks Franco. We really appreciate what you show us on the channel and all great builds and hard work you put into everything.
I appreciate that!
Happy fishing 🎣 Wednesday my friend I enjoy seeing your fishing lures happy fishing 🎣
Definitely we gonna tune in 💯 Thank you for sharing your love brother. Great video.
Heck take more time if you need! Don’t want to burn yourself out, rather take more time between videos and keep the channel long term. Your videos are great and packed full of info, which is why I love the channel. This channel got me started into lure building, which then got my 2 other fishing buddies into lure building, which led my wife to have a hobby of her own along with me! Keep up the good work!
Wow thank you for sharing that really is satisfying to hear. Cheers
I totally agree with scheduling. I’ve yet to sit down and attempt to edit videos. I work 7-days a week and only had 25 days off the entire year in 2023. Add to that making and painting baits, rigs and equipment for fishing and I have no life
Thank you for all of your time. I have learned alot
I really appreciate all that you have done, made me bring out my air brush and do some things that have had some pretty cool effects. built some of your tools that are very handy to have... and did some different things, such as using a suringe to fill in the drilled holes of the acrylic lures, rather than drill an air hole...
And for those that have been looking for denatured ethanol, especially in Canada, I went out and immediately got a 99% solution at my local drug store.
Thanks again Franco, keep having fun
Thank you Franco, your youtube channel is a luremaking bible to me.🙏
Wow, thank you
great idea! Don't get burned out. My wife and I really like your channel. She really likes the white board talks. I'm excited to see your channel growing. You will be at 50,000 subs in no time.
Awesome! Thank you!
While I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed I totally understand your position.
You are the only RUclips channel that I wait with bated breath for content each week. I have made a number of your lures, been inspired by your content and learnt more from you than any other channel. I have watched your entire back catalogue and some videos many times over. There are still a number of your lures I want to make.
I will definitely be tuning in. Any content from you is better than none at all.
Thanks for everything you do Franco
Thanks so much...its viewers like you that keep me inspired.
This sounds like a really smart move. Keep it fun! I love seeing clips where the lure makes it out onto the water. Take us fishing with that new lure when you can. Thanks for the great content. This is one of my favorite channels.
Will do!
Thank you Franco for all your work. I was always amazed how you kept up that schedule. Keep up the great work.
It has been fun but a grind.
I just used your knowledge on lipless crank baits to make my first operating one, thanks.
Glad to help
I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos, especially the ones on the lollipop and flatfish making!!! I hope it goes good for you in the future! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi sir.l am 55 years old.l can one sentence about you : you are a great great human.you are a good man.l never, never forgot you for teaching me. You're my teacher.❤❤❤❤
Wow, thank you
Really appreciate all your hard work putting out all the content you do. I can understand how difficult it has to be juggling a job, maintaining your property, and making content for us. No need in trying to burn yourself out on making content. Look forward to seeing what you all you come up with this year
I appreciate that!
What a outro, Kabooommmm 😆😆😆😆 Lilypad is great spot 💥💥💥💥
Makes sense, I always wondered how you manage to accomplish your disciplined output.
Thank you Franco to share your knowledges and posting interesting videos than are super helps for us.
I would like one video explaining how you can find the gravitatoria point, for poppers, sinking, floating, etc
😊
Thanks for all your hard work.............
My pleasure!
I've just started to make my own lures and have found a ton of great content on RUclips! There's some really amazing talent and craftmanship involved! While there's always something to learn from each channel, I find that I watch your videossignificantly more than the others. The way you present lure making from an engineering point of view while not overwhelming us non-engineers and your personable nature makes it a lot easier to learn the entire process!
Thank you so much. That is so gratifying to hear.
I really dont care how often you post videos, al long as you keep posting the vids😜 I'm still going through all the vids youve made up till now and just loving the content and information provided. Thats the most important and not how well the video is made with perfect camera work and all. Its all about the tips and trics and howto's. Just keep up the great work. And thanks for all your effords
I realy appreciate that...thanks so much.
Your channel always a great help to me. more lure design tutorial and some explaination on lure design would be great. Thanks Franco and greeting from Malaysia.
You got it!
The content has been amazing Franco. We appreciate all of the knowledge that you have shared with us, and we are looking forward to ones coming in the future.
Thank you
Hey you have to make sure you get time for yourself despite the RUclips grind! We appreciate your shared knowledge and experience we can learn from.
I appreciate that!
No problem Franco. Some RUclipsrs are doing an off week video podcast where they just talk about themselves or their lives. Sometimes it's about a certain experience in what they did in video. Sometimes it's just a Q&A (which you've done). Thing is, it's just a put the camera on and talk, maybe a little editing but nothing like the stop and start filming process of making a lure. All the best.
That's a very good suggestion, thanks
Thanks for all your hard work. I have just started lure building and your videos have helped me a lot thank you
Glad to help
So many have said it and probably much better than I can. I enjoy the content you post and have learned so much from you. While others show us how to make lures and mostly at an entertainment level, you teach us how to make better lures and always make learning interesting. I am very much looking forward to your Master Classes!
My priorities are God, family, church, job... and lure making is a little ways down on the list, so I completely understand that you have other things to do. But please do continue to produce content, at a pace that works. 😃
Thank you for the thoughtful message. Its truly appreciated no matter how many times I hear it.
No worries Franco keep up great work 👍
Appreciate you Franco!!
I really like your videos. I’m busy on a big project and as soon as I’m finished I’ll spend time to watch more of your videos. I’d like to see more content of the lures made in the videos catching fish. Basically videos about how to use them
I like that idea
Your content is great , dont ever doubt that Frank
I appreciate the hard work you go through to teach and entertain us. Do what you need to do, I know I'll be here to watch whatever you post.
Thanks you for hanging in there.
You have a very unique approach to lure building. It is one of the things that captivates me the most about your channel and that I don't find elsewhere. I can't imagine doing what you do with my full-time schedule, so I am extremely appreciative of the time, effort, and energy that you put into this channel and graciously share with us. So for that, I thank you. I will be just as eager to watch a new video every 2 weeks as I am for your weekly content. If anything, it'll make it that much better when I see it pop up in my feed. I am sure I speak for most of your fans when I say, you do you, Franco. We are just happy to be along for the ride!
Very nice hear...thanks
Hi Franco, I’m a new subscriber to your channel and I absolutely love your videos. The quality of the videos is outstanding and give a lot of details and insight into the art of lure building. Thanks for posting these amazing videos and I will have the catch up with the rest of those 420 videos 😊…cheers from the Netherlands
Thank you so much and welcome.
Hi! Congratulations on your channel! I've watched a lot of videos. You make great baits and tools! Balázs from Hungary!
Thank you very much!
Do what is best for you and yours and we will all be happy.
Thank you
Would like to see sketches of the lures so we can try making some of them for ourselves.
Now you can go fishin' more!
Your the man! In the off weeks, I will use that time to make a lure or two...
Have fun!
That would have been a great outro! Personally, I would like to see some techniques for painting lures without an airbrush, like using a sponge, or some other techniques for creating a transition between two colors. A new video every two weeks sounds reasonable to me as long as you keep making them informative and interesting. And I have no doubt that they will be!
Great suggestion!
I’d still would like to see a little flap tail top water lure for bass. Love the channel thanks for the lure ideas!
Noted!
Thank you so much for your channel, I have been watching you for a couple years now and love your content. I took up lure building 18 months ago after watching you and getting excited, now it's pretty much my fulltime job. Thank you so much for all your tips and advice. Live Free my friend 😊🙏
That is awesome!
I think a great idea would be doing a an and a during off weeks and then a neat trick that you wish you would have learned earlier in short format. I’ve watched plenty of your videos and love them all but I think it would be nice for the new builder to have a shorts section of some sorts. I wouldn’t even mind recycled content of clips.
Great idea!
LOL, I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if he had a blowup on his outtake! BOOM, was perfect except for the long line release! I pick and choose through your videos for what applies to what I may be currently working on. With that being said, I've learned a bunch and appreciate your work and expertise! Best of luck in the future!
Thanks...hope you keep finding useful stuff in the vids.
Thank you!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I really love your content, especially the technical part which is mostly missing in other lure making videos. keep up the good work!!
p.s a selfish request: i hope to see you make something with ABS plastic if it is possible. :P
Thanks....I'll think about the ABS.
You do what you want at your own pace. Life is too short. If it's not fun, it's not worth it.
Thanks man
Te deseo lo mejor para ti y tu canal, doy gracias por todo
Gracias
You have to do what’s best for yourself and your family ❤
I agree, thanks.
Love the videos!! Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks! Will do!
...Well, how am I going to know what day it is? Being retired, I don’t have much time-sense (it's half past January - right? ) 😁
Seriously, I've always thought (and mentioned) that committing to "each Friday" instead of just "the next video" was a roadmap to burnout.
I'll miss the weekly videos, but I'm glad that you are stepping back from the stress. It's got to be fun!
Take care Franko!
Cheers!
Thanks for the support...it really helps.
You have inspired me to attempt to make my own design jig head for a soft plastic.
I am trying to make something similar to your cranking bass worm using a weighted jig head so it sinks.
The first prototypes the bib just made it dive, i think i need to make it much wider. Last week i seen a darting side to side jighead used with a soft plastic from japan. It did not have a bib but used a flat bottom and little wings like the front of a F1 car moulded in the lead.
I still want to make my own and will keep trying!
Keep experimenting.
I get it. I haven’t been in my shop in over a year due to life. I have lures I want to make but life comes first. I love making floating lipless crank baits. The flutter as the lure rises gets bass like crazy here in Texas. I don’t think I have ever seen you make one but if you have can you link the video?
I'll have to put it on the list.
Best channel out there
Thanks so much
Bonjour Franco
J espère que tu vas bien, merci pour toutes tes vidéo merci pour la traduction en francais
Merci pour les précieuses information que tu nous donne
Je continuer à te suivre

Thank you so much.
Hi Franco, thank you for all the influence you’ve given me (and I’m sure a lot of other people) in lure making. I’ve come so far by watching your past and recent videos. All great stuff.
I do have a question…. The vast majority of lure makers use stainless steel for wires. I’ve managed to get some copper grounding wire that was going to be scrapped from work. Is there a benefit to using stainless steel? Will this copper wire work just as well?
Thank you again! Now I look forward to every second Friday lol! 🎣👍🏻🇨🇦
Copper in a reasonable diameter is usually too maleable. But if you're making small freshwater lures it might work for you. Just note, it will be really tough to keep a crankbait tuned.
@@EngineeredAngler thank you for that. I never thought of the fish bending it around. It’s mainly for pike and walleye which will do that. 👍🏻
Cool 👍
no pressure to keep up with a video schedule. do it as you have time. long/short, once a week or once a month.
Ok thanks!
Don't burn yourself out just for us. Every two weeks is fine. Maybe you could post some more shorts of your lures in action every now and then.
That's the plan thanks.
My vote goes to more engineering.
That's more than fair! Good job
It's funny you mention watching all of your old videos. I have watched literally everyone one of your videos. I have recently changed my way of doing things and ran into a problem so I actually had went back and watched old videos where things you done didn't work for me then but has a chance of working for me now! I told myself I'll just watch this old video maybe I missed something or don't remember. Then boom only ONE of your tests you done just might be a solution to my new current problem! Soon to find out though! Thanks Franco!
Wow...every vid! Thank you!
@@EngineeredAngler literally every video has the red line underneath it! Lol
Don't mean to be abother but having trouble finding the ling to liquid chrome paint.
All the best,
Robert Henderson Qld Australia
Oh? Witch one? Here's the link to Molotow. That's the one I used most recently. amzn.to/3SlmOvB
Do a breakdown of different bill angles for crank baits
i realize this isint a democracy, and my vote doesnt count for shit, but its your lucky day and you get my opinion for free.
i dont have a ton of time. i cant always watch videos when they come out. sometimes i cant watch them at all until i get a chance to binge the last 4-5 videos at once. i see a lot of lures and techniques i would love to try, but again, time. so right now im about 10 lures/projects behind on your current videos, so i will be at NO LOSS if you need to take a week or 2 off. we (or at least i) will be here ready for when you come out with a new video. until then, you do you. 👍👍
Hey man, you do what you gotta do to take care of you.
But if it would help, I'd be happy to buy some of those tools and lures you've made, I'd imagine being able to make a little extra cash with all this would help too
Thanks
@@EngineeredAngler and just to add, I'm sure if you put some products in the store like that people would buy them
I've been a saltwater lure maker since 2016 and have a couple lures sent back to me for repaints /repairs. I've noticed while taking off the epoxy that it comes off with the paint in layers but never the primer. I've always have used a bin or kilz type. These primers are " stain blocking " and I'm wondering if the stain blocking agent is not letting the paint adhere well. It's just my thoughts, ithink it's actually a thing. I always let each layer dry well In between. Maybe you're insight could be a question of the week possibly. I'm doing tests now to debunk my theory. Love your videos. Thanks
I used to use Bin on all my lures as a sealer for wood and resin. I had some issues with getting good adhesion and switched to the water based version of Zinsser, no more problems. Nowadays I use the Minwax Polycrylic and I'm very happy with the results.
I would like to a the design of a top hook line through soft plastic swimbait. I'm not sure where to start.
Thank you for all your very hard work over all these years. Your expert knowledge in the math aspect is an extremely accurate method. Plus your air brushing and all you do is fantastic ! As a new lure maker just starting it is very rewarding to me to be able to see and use your years of experience !
Time to slow down and enjoy some of the things we have missed over the years. But still keeping your passion for lure making.
I do have a request. I live on the West Coast of Canada on Vancouver Island . I do a lot of salmon fishing trolling and using an anchovy with a very specific roll. There is a teaser head on the anchovy. Can you give me some ideas on building one. Segments with a cloth or ? We can get salmon avg 20 lbs to over 50 lbs.
Thank you
Ron Whitehead
I would like to do a teaser head...not sure what type yet. The style you guys use tends to produce a spin in the trolled bait. We troll with bait heads that keep it from spinning. I'll have to think about it.
Thank you so much for the support and you suggestion.
Franco you had me worried! I thought you were shutting down your channel. Well understood, I had (retired now) a very busy schedule with work, overtime, schooling, side jobs, kids,' family, home repair, remodeling and a myriad of hobbies, so I have been there. I don't know how you find the time to make a video once a week. With the amount of content that is available now, I think even posting once a month would be completely acceptable for us viewers. Again, thanks for the great content and good luck with your channel.
Thanks.
Maybe you will have some time to film each lure in action
Hey man I love watching your videos. Me and my friend are wanting to make some lures to go fishing with and maybe to sell some aswell. I was wondering if you could give me a list of everything I need. I saw your Amazon list but there’s a lot of the same stuff so idk what to choose so can you please help me out?
I suggest you get started and only buy what you need as you need it. Trying to get everything you need before you get started making lures will probably waist money and time. Good luck. Have fun with it.
Teach how make a crome homemade 😊
Make videos at a pace you enjoy. Peace.
Can you make a shimmy down jerkbait? That's a task I want you to overcome.
Thanks all video ❤❤❤
Besser weniger Franco als gar kein Franco !
😄
