200 LIKES and we'll react to the next IP Man film 👇
You need to definitely watch S.P.L. Killzone, Special ID, Flashpoint. You WILL NOT regret it.
Hi, I am so happy that you enjoy this movie, I want to introduce you to another excellent Chinese movie. It's a "wuxia" movie, it's like the Chinese version of star wars or lord of the ring. and it's definitely the best, it won lots of awards internationally. the movie is "Crouching tiger hidden dragon" plz plz try this!!!!!!!!
If those 2 losers are filmmakers then i am batman.
@@tanelviil9149 Please share your portfolio and we’ll proudly share ours. Ps, that white dude is currently working on Star Trek and SEE s3.
@@LostInNostalgia Sure sure and i am batman.
The crazy thing about Bruce being ip man’s student is that Bruce had to beg to be his student.
At that time, if you look at it, Bruce was just a smart kid
in real life, bruce lee is ip man student as well. that crazy story
@@kelvinli1683 that’s what I meant.
The reason why it took ip man so long to take in Bruce Lee is because Bruce Lee was like any other little boy, amateur mindset. Until he finally got into training his mindset had to change in order to receive power
@@kinghawjhawj1466 fun fact : He was kicked out of IP school because he wanted to take what he learned to America and the hidden reason was because he wasn't 100 percent chinese and a lot of his students were threatening to leave because it was supposed to be strictly a Chinese art. I learned that from Bruce Lee daughter's book. Great read
10:12 just some insight on the “feather duster”. It’s used in a lot of Chinese households. Mostly used by moms to beat on kids 😅. So the context of that fight scene was Ip Man disciplining a naughty child lol
it’s the asian version of a chancla
@@macks1683 lol!!! Spot on!
and i cant remember how many times ive been wipped by this damn stick. memories
@@macks1683 asian version of the extension cord
The Good old American belt.
All the main Japanese characters are Japanese actors, and they did a great job in this movie
I remember that dude from Great Teacher Onizuka. Did really well.
Kenji Kawai is your Musician in this Movie
The casting in this film was fantastic. Mostly everything about the film is!
@@AnonymousSaiyan ANIMEEEEE WOOOHOOOOOO
It's chinese .-.
It's a feather duster, the go-to weapon for a lot of Asian parents to instill discipline at home. Trust me, it hurts.
It's a Greek weapon also my mother used to have one around and exercise it on me for discipline I know it hurts 😂😂😂
i can still remember the pain man whenever i did some stupid shit at home
This f painful. A standard weapon for orientals parents RPG
Trust me, I can prob terrorize my kids with a fucking spoon if I wanted to and if I had kids. Wacking a kid with a ruler is more scary than a stick cuz the pain will come in more slowly. A rolling pin for rolling dough will just kill nerves with thick heavy whaps but a dog beating stick martial art , a hit from a staff def hurts.
Also the hand is pretty hurtful too.
The death rate by personal belongings/objects, defined by hands/fist/feet/knee/etc, is 3-5 times higher than death number and death rate by guns. And that's including the suicide numbers that really shouldn't be counted as far as counting crimes go.
It's a wonderful inside joke for those who have experienced either end of the feather duster.
Fun fact: The actor who play Ip Man, Donnie Yen is once get into a street fight with some gangster in real life and really fought 10 guys at one times which inspired the scriptwriter to write this into the movie. That's how they get to do that "I want fight 10 person" scene. But of course back then Donnie Yen ain't using the Wing Chun style because he learn Wing Chun just before they plan to shoot this movie, but Donnie Yen did learn traditional martial arts since he was 8, then got himself black and purple belt from Judo and Brazillian Jiu-jitsu, he also explore MMA when he is in USA from 2000 to 2003, so you can kind of imagine how's that fight go. Poor gangster.
This’s a good react thanks man
Don’t think it was was 10 people but he did fight multiple people at once. It was outside the club in Hong Kong. They weren’t gangsters just some dudes that was harassing his gf at the time. He did put some of them in hospital, I remember reading an article about it
8 people
Donnie yen call himself an underground fighter before he learn wing chun, he challenge alot of people because one of his dream is to have a martial art school.
@@Chenrandyliu It was 8, so it might as well have been 10. There is a news report in HK about it.
Funny thing was the real IP Man was the police chief of Foshan. He refused to teach the Japanese during WW2 and that's why they took his house.
Foshan is actually a legendary martial art town, which brought alot of martial art legends like Wong Feihung.
The most important thing is the history that japanese killed more than 10 million people in Asia and Japan is still denying the history and keeps changing their history textbooks which are used in high schools.
The ccp killed more fellow Chinese than Japanese did to chinese
@@carlnilssonyoung8961 Two wrongs don't make one right, but yeah they did
@@carlnilssonyoung8961 You're right CCP did killed a lot, but comparing kills going to make Japan's action right? What's your logic on stating that?
@@passbyicecube except that's not what his comment said at all just your extrapolation from it he only pointed out the hypocrisy is all
CCP is gonna burn a lot worse
For reference,
The first scene of fight, that fighting till stopping at the point where you know you can tko your opponent , it’s an attitude in kungfu out of respect, meaning they are only comparing each other’s techniques without humiliating anyone.
In the second big fight, where the outsider is clearly out performing the locals, the real fight was intended to humiliate them, saying their skill is rubbish
As a Wing-Chun student with direct lineage to IP man himself I have watched this movie over 5 times because I see something new every I watch. I love how authentic the moves are and that Donnie Yen took time to become a black sash in Wing-Chun to make it look authentic as possible
*_One of the best Martial Arts series ever made that is based on a true story._*
Can't wait for your next Ipman series reaction!
Great insight and breakdown from you guys on the movie.
I feel like IP man series was probably the greatest in all the kung fu action films. I mean it had great action jsut like the old kung-fu films, and it had a really good storyline and great characters and it ending really well with a conclusion.
Those old buildings actually exist like a town and they reserved it for this purpose or tourism.
Oh really?! That’s amazing
@@LostInNostalgia I think there are whole neighborhoods of hong kong reserved for filming sets
If those 2 losers are filmmakers then i am batman.
Wrong, this is only a set .
@@neomp5 no, only a set in the studio
If you're new to the genre, I recommend Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Ong-Bak.
Great reaction can’t wait for you guys to react to all the sequences, you’ll definitely love it and get glued in even more. Dope stuff🤘🏾🔥
Y'all have got to check out "The Grandmaster" from Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai. Another take on the Ip Man tale and one of the most visually striking, beautiful films I've ever seen. Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi at the top of their games. Highly recommend. Great reaction btw, haha
bro those feather dusters are crazy strong man~ i had a fair share of that growing up from my parents OMG they left serious marks and pain! lol when out of line as a kid I got nothing other then the famous Duster!
Great reaction! Looking forward to your next IP MAN 2 reaction. Keep it up. Thanks.
Don't forget: This is a true story about the man who trained Bruce Lee!
no, it is not real.
Ye is chinese nationalist party agents in war 2.
Most of the events were fake such as the time he faced off against the Japanese general. Those kind of events did not happen. But events were he went poor, supposedly are true.
You can't fight ten real combatant in real life. Especially the karate 🥋 black belt.
@@Vahn-xc1gc Sure you can. It’s not something entirely impossible. Having a black belt is only a testament to your dedication and training, but that’s not to say there aren’t still masters of their arts in the world.
Bro you cant start him off with Kobe Beef steak of martial arts movie, now his bar for everything else will be so high it will far so short compare to Ip Man
*_I watched the movie so much times but I honestly didn't even notice the color fade in contrast. Thankfully I watched this reaction LOL. Reactions to the Ip Man movies are always good._*
I CANNOT WAIT !! for you to get to ip man 4.. my guy was kicking ass while dying of cancer...
The scene when he thought all 10 men you mentioned he looks so angry and all the other movies he fights for sport possibly for honor like when his master friend die to the boxer but in this scene it was pure unbridled rage watching someone you cared about get shot right in front of him I think it’s the only time we fight but pure anger
Love that you guys actually took the time to react to foreign films and analysed the whole film as oppose to set scenes. Would highly recommend you guys give the foreign film called infernal affairs a go if you guys have the chance. Its a little hidden gem of hong kong cinema, one of my fav foreign films of all time. Martin Scorsese adapted the original script and used it in making a movie called the departed which you guys might be familiar with.
Anyway love the reactions, keep it coming guys :)
Even though Bruce Lee did attend Ip Man's classes. He wasn't really trained by him personally as the Grandmaster doesn't trained newly beginning students and it is the senior students job to train them.
So he was mostly taught by one of Ip Man's top students, Wong Sheung Leung. Yet, never completed his training above most of basics. Though his system of Jeet Kun Do would implement Boxing, Western Fencing and basic Wing Chun.
It is not completely a true story. The main characters might be real people who lived during that time, but most of the stories in IP man movies are mostly made up. However, it is a good martial art movie.
It’s a movie man not everything has to be like in real life lol
@@mikefigure didn’t I just said the same thing? I said “ it is a good martial art movie”
it 40% real. the real history was way to awesome to be recorded properly.
im just making this up to be cool. and make friends.
Ip man was a opium addict, also we dont really know what happened with his wife when he left foshan
@@peterluck3154 yeah, I just looked it up. She wasn’t able to return Hong Kong after her trip to China. So sad.
Don’t forget, this is a part history of Chinese, and ip man is the teacher of bruce lee.....
I respect the japanese general, in the movie all he strived for was looking for stronger martial artists, he wasn't arrogant he showed respect
Yes. He was slightly glorified as an antagonist. One might say that he was not among the antagonists for this movie as he was only looking for "glory" in fights. That said it's only glory in a somewhat perverted sense as he's looking for "worthy opponents" in people who are already starved and victimized. But he did have respect and honor.
My dad was a student at Ip Man's school in Kowloon at the same time as Bruce Lee, back when they were both teenagers.
So yes, Ip Man was a real person, and all the techniques Donnie Yen uses are real wing chun - I learned wing chun for 4 years, things like tan sao blocks, kicks and chain punches like the ones Yen uses are the exact same things that I learned :) Pretty much every modern wing chun school can trace its lineage back to Ip Man, his students and their students, so effectively all wing chun today was created by Ip Man's teachings.
The place where I went to train Wing Chun even had a big portrait of Ip Man on the wall
I love how your faces are taking up 50% of the screen
excellent editing!!!!
To the white guy on the couch: Why is your right arm so much bigger than your left arm?
Great reaction. Love that you guys appreciate these Chinese martial arts films. It’s so different from Western films. Looking forward to the next IP man reactions
Feather dusters… the ultimate weapon of Asian parents… trust me… I know lol
Great movie, great reaction!
We'll be waiting for Ip Man 2 to continue the journey.
I like the part he got stunned realizing Ip Man was Bruce Lee's sifu.
And also, these 2 spoilt brats when they were young were only send to their room as form of discipline. The feather duster is the ultimate weapon to discipline Asian kids. That scene was Ip Man treating the guy like a kid and disciplining him. Also as a form of insult.
that filmmaker bait is really working well with these reaction channels
Love that u said ip man correctly!!
The thud sound at 9:27 sounds like if someone were to slap a slab of beef onto a wooden cutting board
fun fact, the feather duster is what our asian parents beat us with as kids, that gives the scene an extra level of condescension, like a master disciplining a kid.
My man really love's his "sheeeesh"
I question whether these guys are actually film makers. The guy on the left is seriously annoying
As many have said there are 3 more Ip Man movies. However, there is a fifth movie that is tied into the series which is Master Z, which I believe, time line wise, takes place after 2 but before 4.
If those 2 losers are filmmakers then i am batman.
Master Z happens after Ip Man 3 and before Ip Man 4
@@vyshak4455 uhh...not sure about that since ip man 3 I'd when he is an old man. Hence, after 2 but before 4. Though it's been a while since I've watched them and don't have the dates memorized.
@@singingwolf3929 The whole premise of Master Z is that he is no longer confident in himself after losing to Ip Man, (Which was at the end of Ip Man 3). Remember Master Z is younger than Ip Man.
Ip man was filmed in Shanghai which was used to architecturally recreate Foshan but the filmmakers traveled to Foshan along with Ip’s eldest son and martial arts master Leo Au-yeung to research Ip’s life
Ipman had to teach Bruce lee privately because he was half Chinese and half American that was the story i heard
Y’all should watch the fourth one, they plays Bruce Lee an important role in S.F
While IP Man is great and it popularised Donnie Yen in the West, however when he starred in Ip Man he was past his prime. You guys should check out his older movies when he was young. Start with Iron Monkey, Once Upon A Time In China 2 and Legend of the Wolves. Those movies which came out more than 20 years ago would still put Hollywood actions movies of today to shame including all those Marvel movies.
Iron Monkey is still one of my favourites. And his performance in OUATIC 2 was the first ever scene we see Jet Li versus Donnie.
Marvel movies aren't Martial arts z can't really compare him. Weird
Generals face was like I beg your pardon, what the fuck did you say 😂😭😭
These movies made Wing Chun my favorite martial arts style
i cant wait for the next reaction videos for the rest of the ip man movies!
Thanks for the support! Looking forward to it too!
Makes RUclips videos: “filmakers”
The rolling thunder punch which is the rapid fire "jack hammer" punches that is seen in Wing Chun or Kung-fu... is what we in the West have nicknamed the Rapid Masher. Or aka the Mash Potato technique. ;)
Dude, the first duel after the tea was just a fight to test whose skill is better, not fight to death that's why the 2 masters were polite to each other
Hope u guys love it, and there is a series IP Man 1-4, I really wonder if u guys react to those! thx
Keep it up guys. This is first time i think full reaction for the whole movie in RUclips. Please react on all Ip Man movies. I love the way you guys reacted.
I do appreciate all efforts, respect, attention and also hardworking from all ppl who just did anything to prove how hard Chinese ppl suffered in such period. No matter who they r and from where they r, I do respect from the deep of my heart. As Chinese we just wanna be friends wiz ppl around the world and stick to our principles which is respect and peace&luv. I wish everyone around the earth deserve a happy and satisfying life. Peace y’all
We have little cities that have many props and traditional buildings for film use specifically.
The first IP man movie is form 2008 and I was born in 2008,but
I watched it like 100 times
The four Chinese boxers in rags are guys from northern China to challenge boxers in a southern Chinese town, Fuo Shan, where there are many different schools of martial arts. Their leader beat three of the martial art teachers there but was defeated by Ip Man.
It a traditional duster made from cane and feathers. Dual purpose. 1. Dusting the ornaments at home. 2. Punishing kids by caning them. 100% common in Asian homes until maybe the late 90s. Yes, we ( chinese / asians) were once all caned by our parents as kids. Ensures our schoolwork are constantly A graded 🤣😄😅
Fun fact donnie yens mother is a grandmaster bow-sim Mark. He also has a sister hi up in the martial arts world
I think she still teaches in Boston if i remember correctly
The feather bamboo thing…. Is our old time parents ultimate weapon , when we see parents hold that we be speed running away.
yooo this is around the time the massacre of banking happened.
as a suggestion for movies that just feel like an art piece, I'd suggest The Fall starring Lee Pace. it has some of the best transitions I've ever seen and it was filmed in like 20 plus countries. as an allegory for depression due to an injury it really hits home.
Famous Bruce Lee learns some WingChun from Ip Man
i suggest you watch the prequel before you watch part 2 3 and 4 (4 actually takes place between 2 and 3 its kinda weird)
i recommend jet li's "fearless". but only the director's cut, not the theatrical cut or the unrated cut. the director's cut has a full 40 minutes of story that the other cuts don't have
The guy playing the Japanese general was trained in karate for this movie.
Donnie yen trained under IP Chin (IP Man's Son) in Whin Chun for nine months for this Movie!! IP Chin was impressed with the speed that Yen picked it up!!!!!
this fighting style yongchun was originally designed for women, because most women has shorter arm length so this style uses shorter puch but with incredible speed
Fighter in the wind ? Based true story too .
looking forward to rhe 2,3 and 4.

Ok
you said it's based on a true story, but in reality, ip man evacuated before the japanese occupied fo shan. he wasn't there.
Great reaction, you seem like good dudes.
While the movies are based on the character of the real Ip Man, a lot of the stories don't reflect real events. Ip Man is a folk hero, the movies are based on his legend, not his life.
Love the way you guys pronounced Yip Mun correctly!
99% guys don't get it right.
This movie is one of my all time favorites
The feather duster is what asian parents use to discipline the children. It really hurts.
You guys should react to Ip Man 2.
That is not a bag of sweet potatoes. That's a small bag of rice.
You guys didn’t cover it but the old man he fights in the store is Ip Man’s actual son Ip Chun
@2:37 They were fighting its a test of techniques and skill rather than power. its a friendly spar intend on teaching and learning from others rather than to injure and offend. Reason why polite and the other person can leave amicably without losing face, reason the spar took place behind closed doors.

Anybody notice how big the dude on the lefts right arm is compared to his left
One noticeable difference of karate and kung fu (in this case, wing-chun) is that karate you’re facing your opponent, direct forward and back movements. Kung fu is circular, the stances are different, as of course, the methodology of the fighting. Ip Man (aka Yip Man) created wing Chun.

No one is gonna mention all the “sheeez” there were in there.
Even after the release of Leroy Smith of Tekken 7.
He was an absolute monster.
7:23 This short hair gungfu actor said one of actor got knockout from his kick, maybe this guy I guess. He passed out for a while.
9:04 comment:observation. Good notice.-Ernie Moore Jr.
Went to Foshan 2 yrs ago went to museum for the grandmasters saw some of his memorabilia even Ip Man’s wooden practice pole. Most of the grandmasters who they can’t win over were poisoned.
Bruce Lee learned from different masters and wanted to learn wing chun nice story how he got in. Ip Man learned exclusively from the grandmaster of wing chun but when he studied in HK he met the brother of the grandmaster who had a different technique but same style.
Ip Man family were rich he never work in his lifetime only when war broke.
Enjoyed your reaction to IPMan, you should do the rest of the sequels.
awesome review
I came for the stubble
I loved all four movies but the first two are probably my favorites out of all movies or at least really close.
13:03 Even though the cop chief had such a position having to watch his countrymen get killed not being able to do anything, looked as a traitor he basically had to risk his life being an interpreter between both because he was the only one who could since he had the qualifications. Someone had to do the job in order to communicate with them.
Not sure if others have pointed this out, but this is a Hong Kong movie, and not really a Chinese one. Hong Kong is, today, politically part of China but otherwise has little in common.
You guys gotta react to ip man fighting against Mike Tyson god damn that fight gave me literal chills
