1990 IHSAA State Championship: Bedford North Lawrence 63, Concord 60

Bedford North Lawrence, led by Damon Bailey, battled from behind in both games to capture the 80th Annual Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball State Finals Tournament with a 63-60 win over Concord before a national record Hoosier Dome crowd of 41,046 on March 24, 1990.
Bailey finished his incredible high school career scoring the last 11 points against previously unbeaten Concord to erase a 58-52 deficit in the last 2 1/2 minutes of the championship game.
Damon scored a game high 30 points against Concord and had 25 in the second semi-final game when Bedford North Lawrence trailed Southport 32-18 near the end of the first half and bounced back to gain a narrow 58-55 decision. Concord advanced to the championship game with a 70-66 victory over Anderson in the opener.
The Bedford ball club, coached by Dan Bush, opened up a 24-18 lead in the first quarter of the championship game. Concord shot ahead by a 37-32 score at half-time, and it was a 46-46 standoff at the end of three quarters. Bailey hit two buckets and added seven free throws in the last 2:38 to turn the tide.
Bailey got his 30 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the field, and Chad Mills was the only other Bedford player in double figures with 11. Jamar Johnson led Concord with 15 points; center Bill Mutch had 15 and Jeff Massey, 12.
One of the turning points for Bedford in the afternoon game against Southport was the second half defense on William Moore. Thanks to Moore who had 23 points in the first half, Southport held a 32-23 lead on Bedford at the halfway mark. Moore got only five points the rest of the way when Dwayne Curry took over the defensive assignment of Moore. Bedford outscored Southport 20-7 in the third quarter and hung on to a slim lead with 15 clutch free throws in the fourth quarter.
Concord, led by Johnson who scored 21 and put five players in the double figures, was on the way to its 70-66 win over Anderson. Micah Sharp played a strong supporting role with 17. Anderson trailed 54-34 midway in the third quarter, but stormed back to tie at 64-64 with 3:06 to go.
Anderson was led by Terry Fuller who scored 23 points; Vince Tatum had 12 and Tyrone Kelley, 10. Kelley twisted his ankle in the first quarter and spent most of the second half on the bench. A 15-1 advantage at the foul line by Concord was the difference.
The IHSAA Executive Committee unanimously selected Damon Bailey of Bedford North Lawrence High School as the recipient of the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award. Farm Bureau Insurance, corporate sponsor of the IHSAA, presented a $1,000 scholarship to Bedford North Lawrence in his name.
A total of 386 schools and 4,584 participants began competition at the sectional level.
