+Richard Grindland Leave them long and heavy weight out front. They are very hard to tune sometimes especially with shorter draw length and lower poundage.
+MoslemBoAli You want to have a loose hand. Hold your bow, but do not grip it tightly. The tension from drawing the bow will hold it in your hand for you. If you hold it tight, you could torque the bow upon shooting and this will greatly effect your shot. Let it rest in your palm and you can wrap your fingers around the grip or point them straight. The bow won't fly out of your hands when you shoot. Try it both ways and see what feels more natural to you.
I notice your hand on the release aid is almost palms down, and not against your cheek in the way some instructors seem to insist on, is there a hard n fast rule about that or does develop their own style and go with what works?
Hi, I have been shooting bow and hunting for a while and I shoot in the NASP league but for hunting and bigger bows I want to get a back tension release but I've NEVER used one...how would you recommend I approach getting a back tension release? I have shot the caliper and thumb release but really wanna get a back tension.
+Callum Butler It's called using an illegal draw (pointing the bow upwards then lower it upon draw) This is a technique a lot of people use when their bow is too strong for them or they just generally have poor form. Drawing like this at a competitive level will result in disqualification as it can be quite dangerous. Never at any point should your bow be pointed higher than when you are at full draw. From my observation, it looks like he would be more suited to a 40-45lb draw weight as he has to rely on this type of draw and still does not look very comfortable doing so. This is extremely common in archery as many people just don't know or the bigger reason, a lot of people have a draw weight superiority where bigger is always better at the cost of proper form. Another thing you want to keep in mind that was not mentioned is arrow length. The arrows are much too long for the bow. At full draw the arrows should only stick out around an inch further than the arrow rest. Just needed to mention that. As for increasing your strength, it's usually not necessary for most people. You can get strength training products specifically designed for archery, though shooting with proper form over time you will gradually get stronger and will be able to move up in draw weight if you so choose. Just remember that a heavier draw weight will result in a faster arrow and flatter trajectory, but will also make your bow more sensitive to errors. Subtle movements are much more noticeable with a faster arrow than with a slower one. For this reason I would generally recommend 35-45lbs for anyone serious about competition. Even a 30lb bow is capable of shooting up to 90m, which is usually the maximum distance you will encounter. Hope this cleared up a little bit for you. If you want some great advice on form and anything else archery related, go check out NUSensei's channel.
+Tiduspeco Chris isn't sky drawing. The purpose for lifting the bow in the first place is so he can settle into the target from above. Most pros do the same thing. If you watch closely you can plainly see he does not begin to draw until the bow itself is nearly back at parallel. 53 lbs. is a nice comfortable weight for indoor, as you do not require blazing arrow speeds to be accurate, since you know and are shooting at the same distance over and over. Lower poundage, slower speeds and much much heavier arrows. I know of NO competition shooters who are under 50 lbs draw. Also 90m is recurve. Compound is generally shot at 50m for outdoor FITA and 18m for indoor.
+Caley Welner Gonna disagree with you on the distance thing. Both compound and recurve are frequently shot on a WA1440 round which is 90/70/50/30m. If you're on about WA720 rounds then yes compounds do shoot at 50m, but recurves shoot at 70m not 90m.
+AJSBristol Yes Sir, you are correct. I apologize for messing that up. I was referring to WA720. I'm not well versed in recurve. Thank you for clearing that up.

Richard Grindland your shop shouldn't be working on bows then
I did.
Could you please talk about bowgrip ? how you grip your bow
