  • I discuss about setting up a bow for Indoor archery - what I did, how it is different to my target compound and how it performed at the 2021 Australian Indoor Nationals.

50lb bow for outdoor will work well. It has the same IBO arrow speed as a 60lb. I think. But with Pandarus arrows you can have the 50lb bow working more efficiently at its upper end. Better I think than a 60lb bow wound down.

How about showing a compound set up for 3-d competition? Arrows, points, scope selection and release selection. I guarantee you that there are thousands of shooters that really have no clue about the details that areso relevant. And explain the difference between a " known " and " unknown " range distance set up.

Great video Steven ..... Well shooting 50#'s maybe 3DHV's would be great solution since fatties bugger you but skinnies work great that could be your happy medium !!!

I shoot 500 spine VAP's with 100 grain points in my Supra Focus XL turned down to 50 pounds. I'm just getting too old to shoot it at 60 pounds anymore for any length of time.

I hope that when you said heart pain, you meant pain in your chest muscles. Don’t feel bad about lower poundage, accuracy is more important. I am in my mid 60’s, had a heart attack four years ago, and suffer with arthritis. My comfortable poundage limit is 55 and, I am happy with that.

Hi Stephen, I have some thoughts for you. You will score higher with fat arrows, once you have the right set up. I strongly recommend Victory's VTAC-23 arrows, as others have. They fly incredibly well and don't seem very fussy about set up. You could shoot their 480 spine shafts, which are nice and light, allowing you to stay away from that sluggish feeling with heavy shafts (I dislike that too). You could then add 100-120gr points and still have quite a quick feeling shot, if this is your preference. With a fairly light arrow and modest point weight, I would stick 3" vanes on - something like the Vanetec Swift 2.88 are fantastic on these shafts and you'll be pounding the X. For what its worth, these shafts are a little slimmer than most 23 series arrows and are closer to 22 series. They will be nothing like the NVX27s you tried, which are fat, stiff and heavy, and much more like the NVX23s that worked OK for you. The V-TAC 23s are quite a bit lighter for the same spine, so this means a crisper shot or more point weight can be used, whatever is your preference. Out of a dozen, you can try different lengths and point weights and see what works best for you. VTW, the V-TAC 27 is nothing like their 23 and 25s The latter are very light for their spine (the lightest on the market). The V-TAC 27 is one of the heaviest for its spine on the market. I wouldn't bother with anything fatter than the 23s if shooting 46lb. You'll end up with something in 300 spine or stiffer and this is going to be harder to get shooting the way (I think) you like them. When you do go to 23 series, don't forget to shoot three spot faces. You'll smash arrows and get horrible glance outs if you shoot single spot faces. Like immediately.
