Omg! I JUST bought that exact pot this weekend for the same purpose! I cannot thank you enough for this great tutorial , even I can do this, easy peasy! It is a great pot too, I made a very small test batch of soy blend container candles and used the pot of course as my melter. Then I poured the wax into my pouring pots and added my color and f.o. It was nice not having to deal with the double boiler. I will be making larger batches, so I will definitely be using your instructions. Thank you, thank you! Beats the hell out of paying over $100 on Etsy for the exact same thing. 👍🏻😉

Thanks for the info. I managed to score two Presto Pots with Amazon points (so I paid nothing for them lol) and went to my local Home Depot for the spigots and JB Weld for a whopping $21.37. Thanks to Jeff I now have 2 fantastic Presto Pots to simplify my process and boy do they ever make life easier lol!! Thanks for the tutorial. I did this over the weekend and it works perfectly. I already had the fryer that was in my cupboard not being used. So I spent roughly $15 and made a nice and easy wax melter. I greatly appreciate the videos as a new candle maker, they are helping me learn to do's and don't.
Update.... Omg! On the presto Pot! Not only is it efficient on fuel cost (no water or gas used and can be used with solar panels if I want to make it cheep long haul); but it saves SO MUCH SPACE! I have my whole kitchen back when before my workspace took up THE ENTIRE KITCHEN! I'm never turning back! 👍👍👍
So, should the drill bit be SMALLER, SAME SIZE, or LARGER than the size of your valve?? I have a 3/4" Valve.... I'm trying to decipher if after the guide hole I use a 3/4 bit

@@DollsandEverythingElse please be very very very careful with paddle bits; they're for wood, not metal. The wrong bit can damage the material, or break the bit, which is extremely dangerous.

I’ll have to grab the bit and see why it works, not sure if it’s the threads on the spout but the bit I used was the 3/4 and the valve is labeled at Home Depot as a 1/2. 🤦🏼♂️😂

@jacussi My understanding is that the internal diameter of the spout is 1/2 inch. So with the metal pipe around that, it's about 3/4 inch on the outside.

Ok so here's my question. Is there any reason you know of for not possibly using high temp rubber sealers and a large enough nut to seal or is the jb weld a requirement? I asking just in case I needed to change the value for any reason in the future

Does it harm the wax in any way to leave it in the melter for a long time (hours) without it doing anything to the wax to not make it bind well with fragrance oils? Hope this makes sense. Also can the wax be left in the pot and reheated or do I need to start with a fresh batch at another time?
Karen Feil Not that I’ve noticed at all. I usually leave mine melting for an hour to so while I pour and use the very next batch if I let it harden again. Most waxes are melted once as they pour the blocks as well.

Mohammed Burney I bought the basic 1/2 valve from Home Depot and it works great. I think the max temp is 180 as well but I don’t heat the wax that high.
Hi Stanley, I got this pot for Christmas. I use Pillar of Bliss wax. On my 2nd pot of wax, the wax started making sounds like it was boiling eventhough it was only in there for a few minutes. I attended to it, and even cut hole in the unmelted wax so the melted wax could release the bubbles it was producing. I had the pot on its lowest setting of warm to 200°. Bam! The pressure built up so much that it exploded sending all the wax to the lid, and also some outside of the pot. All this happened within 5-10 mins. I was with the pot the entire time. Do you have any ideas why this happened?
@@StandleyHandcrafted thx for your quick reply. I had maybe 2 or 3 lbs in it. I had made melts earlier in the evening, turned the pot off, then when I came back the wax was solid. I then turned it on again and that's when it happened. It definitely gave me a mini heart attack as I was RIGHT beside it.

I called the manufacturer and they said the wax has water in it, either from the weather or from where they cooled the wax with water during the manufacturer process. Their recommendation was to pour the wax out of the plastic bag into a box and let it dry out.

It would depend on the size of valve you are using on the pot. You can ask your hardware guy what size bit you should use for the valve you want to use. Also, please remember 2 things. 1. Always wear safety glasses while drilling. 2. NEVER use a spade bit like the one shown in the video on metal. It's specifically designed for wood. When used on metal, it will shatter sending metal bits everywhere.
LaTosha Fitch I’ve been using one for a month now and it’s SOOOO much better. I seriously can’t believe I used pitchers to melt for so long. I heat the wax up, then just pour out what I need and add FO. Makes such a huge difference.

The presto pot is $25 and $35 for the two different sizes. The valves and pipes depending on how you want to set them up will run you $10-$20 The sealant is around $5 and will be way more than you need. The rest if you don't have it, drill bits, files, etc, go up from there.
Hi Stanley, such an amazing video! My husband actually made one for me but after using a few times... The wax turns to a very peachy colour with a waxy smell. I wonder is this because I've overcooked them from directed heat? Rather than double boiler? 😢 Do you have any experience with over cooked wax? (I measured the temperature which is around 110 C)That particular batch has less scent through performance. So I guess I need to be very careful with that...😔

Hey there thanks for this!! You are the bomb.com My hubby just made mine 🤗. And what I found to work for the clogged spout is leaving the spout open to drip. While the wax is melting when it’s at 180 I pour the drips back in the pot and open the spout to pour my pound or whatever I need. It was a pain the first couple days that it was clogged and I thought he didn’t make it right 🥴. He got tired of me giving Jeff praises and referencing your channel that he had to show me how to make lemonade lol Please I need you to schedule time to do a problem solving tips and tricks video on using the melt pot please and thanks. Oh dear God, don't use wood hole cutting bits on cast iron (or any metals). That is extremely dangerous. Bits for the wrong material can ruin your target and your drill bit.
@@StandleyHandcrafted just be careful! Drill bits are not great at crossing into other materials than what they were built for. We all need you to stay in one piece 😁

The lowest temp is 200. If you are dealing with wax that doesn’t need to go past 185 do you just monitor to that point then set your control to warm?
Kimberley I keep my setting between warm and 200 and it keeps my wax right at 165-160

Put water in it, heat it up, open the spigot, and drain.

You do either. But remember that nuts a rubber washers have to seal tightly on a curved surface. Jb weld molds to the surface

Very easy, once you heat the pot the wax wipes right out and the valve melts out.

Nope not at all. It's got a heat rating higher than it will ever get too.

Viola Wang You might of burned the wax that is a really high temperature.
I typically heat my wax to no more than 82C

And what I found to work for the clogged spout is leaving the spout open to drip. While the wax is melting when it’s at 180 I pour the drips back in the pot and open the spout to pour my pound or whatever I need.
It was a pain the first couple days that it was clogged and I thought he didn’t make it right 🥴. He got tired of me giving Jeff praises and referencing your channel that he had to show me how to make lemonade lol

That is a round file, not a nail file. Also called a rat tail file.
Oh dear God, don't use wood hole cutting bits on cast iron (or any metals). That is extremely dangerous. Bits for the wrong material can ruin your target and your drill bit.
Thanks for the tip.These are not cast iron though, cast aluminum.
@@StandleyHandcrafted just be careful! Drill bits are not great at crossing into other materials than what they were built for. We all need you to stay in one piece 😁
