You may thing this song is epic because Freddie is on it but the fact that next to him we have Caballé, the most beautiful voice humanity has ever recorded, maybe is a part of the beauty of this song.
Montserrat Caballé has said many pop/rock singers have asked her (after this performance) to perform a duet with them and she has always said “No” because she has said she respected Freddie too much and she would never sing with someone else.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It is hard to believe this has been over 35 years ago. Freddie died just a couple years later. Actually Monserrat passed away in 2017. She outlived Freddie by 29 years.
She also asked Freddie “how many songs are on a record?” He said,”10”! She told him “Then write me an album.” So, Freddie did! In UNDER A MONTH! ❤ We lost someone incredible in losing these two giants of music 😢 in our own lifetimes 😢❤
@@ThomasTallantI have read in several places that Freddie in his off time used to go to the Opera many times. But? Until he went to hear her? He NEVER considered it before. He’d concluded it would be a dream unfulfilled! 😢❤❤❤❤
Freddie said in an interview on Spanish TV that he loved Montserrat, as a fan. Montsy heard this, but had not really heard of Freddie so checked out some Queen and she herself quickly became a fan of Freddie (well, duh!) and, I believe, she had her people call his people.... In a restaurant in Spain, a (Spanish) waiter looks up and see the legend that is Montserrat Caballé, and gets a shock... He looks across, sees the legend that is Freddie Mercury and... Faints. Montserrat thought she was just going to do a single song as a simple collaboration with another gifted musician... what actually happened was that she fell in love with Freddie (not in that way...) and she suggested an album! A lifelong friendship was born and an absolutely beautiful album came of it. You guys need to check out (not only other Barcelona album tracks) a track called Exercises In Free Love which is Freddie doing an 'impression' of Montserrat! The track became a song on the album with Montsy writing lyrics and taking her role while giving Freddie a baritone.
It is an amazing story, Freddy once saw Montserrat in an Opera and was totally captivated by her voice, he wanted to work with her but was afraid the best female opera singer in the world would consider him as not a serious singer as he sang Rock music, when he finally got the courage to approach her, she was concerned what the best rock singer in the world would want with an 'old fat opera singer' to paraphrase her words, in the end he convinced her he was indeed interested in working with her and they produced a magical album together, it is well worth checking out other songs from the album.

Barcelona" is a single released by Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury and operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé. A part of their collaborative album Barcelona, it also appeared on Queen's Greatest Hits III. The song reflects Mercury's love of opera with his high notes and Caballé's operatic vocals, backed by a full orchestra. Originally released in 1987, it was one of the biggest hits of Mercury's solo career, reaching number eight in the UK Singles Chart. After Mercury's death in 1991, it was featured at the 1992 Summer Olympics, after which the track climbed even higher, peaking at number two in the UK, the Netherlands and New Zealand.

Love your emotional reaction. Nothing comes even close to Freddie. Nothing.
Pure perfection ... There are no words to describe this. I'm so glad you put this on. Pure madness from the emotions that this song creates in a man. Thanks guys. And now a little about the song.
This was the theme tune for the 1992 Olympic Ganes in Barcelona

Freddie said outside of Queen, he cherished (or some such term) his collaboration with Montserrat more than anything he did. Her singing with him was his dream come true. They both loved working and doing this music. She is interviewed saying it was her best, most enjoyable year (or some such words.). Thanks for the reaction. I cherish your words/sentiments.
