4:20 Q-Tip on producing back in the days. He put the credit as "Produced by Tribe Called Quest." We know he put the thing together but it's all about the whole team. Big respect for that

Not only that, they also formed a producer group called "The Ummah", and produced quite a few records together. Got Til Its Gone is my personal fav of theirs, tho. Such an amazing joint
It’s been confirmed that Flyte Time (Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis) actually produced the Got til it’s Gone track. They said they were inspired by the Brand New Heavies : Sometimes Remix which Dilla produced and features Q Tip. So basically they bit his style (like countless others) which is why Dillas Janet Remix is called “Jay Dee Revenge Remix”. They let him remix it to get his paper. Questlove has said in a few interviews that he thinks the Sometimes Remix is considered the birth of the Neo Soul sound.
Yea his beats remind me of growing up and just bring nostalgia to me. Im 36 now. Remember being in Great Lakes/Chicago for bootcamp and those winter months in Illinois just remind me of a Dilla beat for some reason
People don't talk about Amp Fiddler enough. Played keys for Prince and Funkadelic and gave Dilla his first MPC and introduced him to Q-Tip...shieeeeet. Great solo artist in his own right too
My 1st time hearing Jdilla was 1997 in downtown Detroit at the Hip Hop Shop. They were blasting it and I swear I walked around the store not even looking at the clothes because the music was so super bangin.! I will never forget it!
Q Tip is a real one. A straight up good dude who was always humble despite being behind so many great albums from Tribe to Illmatic to Mobb Deep to the other Native Tongues. Greatness.

It was beautiful and you could feel the love and the loss from Amp.

Damn that Lollapalooza tour was when Tribe came to Atlanta for the first time. They were going to perform at the Phoenix club which was a hip hop club. I called Chris Lighty and asked him to get me on the guest list. I had told him that I had been in the hospital for like 5 months. He was so cool that he listened to my story all cool like. He was like I would put you on the list but there is no list. Dallas Austin and Jermaine Dupri had called him for the same thing. I ended up knowing the door guy and got in to see them. It was bananas
Sat next t Q-tip on a flight from LGA to Memphis. He was asleep already in the window seat when I sat down. I stared at him for like 2 mins because I wasn't sure it was actually him. He woke up full awake staring back at me while I was staring at him. Awkward, but he was cool about it. He's a real just plain good guy.
