      One of my favourite embossing techniques is to emboss fabric. Cotton or thin fabrics are best, I use quilting cotton fabrics as I do sewing & quilting.
      I adhere the fabric to cardstock using a sheet of double sided adhesive and trim the edges of any fabric hanging over the edges, then run it through my machine.
      If you're worried about fraying you can just run around the edges with a clear nail polish, Ironing the fabric first is personal choice & depends on look etc, (I iron mine) then build your card from there.
      I've made heaps of cards with this method over the years including patchwork cards. When I've cut out my patchwork shape/s I run the pieces through different folders for a different effect. If I use a light coloured fabric and want to Ink or colour it I coat it with a couple of layers of clear Gesso & let it fully dry, then I can colour or blend on the fabric without the colour bleeding into the fabric.
      I have used a range of fabrics over the years with my card making for so many things just to be different 😂 Ripstop fabric is great to use for things like umbrellas, raincoats, gumboots, hot air balloons etc... adds a bit of texture.
      I made a card years ago for a friend's son who has autism with a bubble theme using a range of different fabncs in circles of varying sizes as he loves bubbles. He loved the card & my friend said he showed everyone who visited 😂 she called it a sensory card.

    To make extra-beautiful hearts for St. Valentine's Day cards, I die cut simple heart shapes, then I place those inside embossing folders with floral or musical note designs, or whatever design seems nice, run that thru my Sizzix Switch, and the result is very elegant, unique, textured hearts! Have done the same with other basic shapes such as circles, hexagons, rectangles, etc.

      ❤I'm making 108 Valentine's for my mum's Aged Care facility. I'm doing the top folding pop up heart by Studio Light. I have done a green, blue and peach set by cutting the top layer pieces in white shimmer card then embossing Altenew 3D folders. Camellia is my fave but Daisy Bed and Beautiful Bergenia look great too! Always love the 'How did you do that!?!' Reaction, ha!

      Thank you! That’s a good question, but not really feasible since the folder pushes the image into the card stock. You can, however, emboss a panel and adhere it to your base, so the base remains smooth. I hope that helps.

    I love watching your videos because you are so easy to understand and share so many creative ideas. I have the spellbinders platinum 6 machine and I find that certain embossing folders are quite thick. With the thin folders I do ok, building the sandwich as directed. I stopped trying to use the thicker folders because I’m afraid I’m going to break my machine using the sandwich method. Do you have any hints as to how to use the thicker folders?

    • @villagecardandcrafts
      @villagecardandcrafts  5 месяцев назад

      Than’ you!! 🩷. Just a reminder that the instructions for the platinum 6 is basically for Spellbinders 3D folders. With that, I start with the very least when trying another brands folder…base plate, folder. Adapter. If too tight, eliminate the adapter and try cardstock. I have a piece of cork that is great for when I need a little something.

    • @villagecardandcrafts
      @villagecardandcrafts  9 месяцев назад

      Great question! Distress are dye inks. They are transparent in nature and dry rather quickly. These could be a great option for a fast project. Oxides are a hybrid ink…mostly pigment and some dye. These have a chalky, opaque quality and dry slower. I tend to prefer Oxides since I like a more opaque finish. Both inks are fantastic. If you have one color in both types, try them on the same piece of card to see how they behave. That might give you a better idea of what you are looking for in an ink. I highly suggest swatching. You can download free swatch charts for the entire range at rangerink.com. Thanks so much for subbing! Happy crafting!

    🥺 Does the first technique of INKING (either) SIDE of the embossing folder take "some practice"? I tried it, using a Dahlia-looking embossing folder (image highlighted in orange outside), but neither version ("em" OR "de") gave me A N Y areas remaining uncolored! I tried, also, to use a diffuser shim to just get a section, but in each case the whole surface was colored. Is my E-Folder too shallow? Is "my hand" (applying ink) too heavy? Wendy, you make this look SOOO simple!! Any words of advice would be MOST welcome!!

    • @villagecardandcrafts
      @villagecardandcrafts  10 месяцев назад

      I have some questions for you...what type of ink are you using and how juicy are the ink pads. I would say that a light hand is best as well as just using the edge of the ink pad to swipe the surface. You don't want ink to squish into the depressions. This works best with a 3D embossing folder. If you are using a standard folder and using a heavy hand that could be the issue. I would try to master the first technique before moving on to the diffuser. It isn't that this is difficult, it just requires a tender touch. You can do this! Try again. Change the folder/ink/ or even paper. Speaking of that, what type of card are you using?

    • @amkarei
      @amkarei 10 месяцев назад

      @@villagecardandcrafts WOWSER!! You are QUICK! Firstly, THANK YOU!! For your expertise, for your patience, and for being SO generous with your time!!
      Secondly, NOTHING about this project is optimal: the inks I'm using are Memento Dew-Drops, and I wouldn't call them juicy, but 2 out of 3 I first tried worked as I would have expected; the 3rd I changed out for another color, as it WAS too dry; I thought I had the "light hand" part down, but it didn't seem to matter with this E-Folder ... ink went into the "dents" as well as on the high spots. When I was trying for color in the recesses, I tried to carefully remove the ink from the high points, but that only succeeded in smearing together the patches of the 3 colors I was going for ( !!) So I just went for it. The result wasn't ugly; just not what I was trying for! As for the paper ... Since I usually use my computer to generate my sentiments, I use a very crisp-feeling, v-e-r-y smooth-feeling, HP 32 # / 120 gsm (100 Brightness) "printer paper?" This paper has a fabulous "hand", AND makes a substantial envelope, as well.
      I'd give up and try a different folder, or a different technique, or both, but I was SO looking forward to using this one, with a Valentine's sentiment I'd come up with. 🤦 🤷

      Don't get discouraged! I just pulled out the same embossing folder which is a Parkland (aka JOANN Fabric brand) Standard 2D folder. It was cheap! I also pulled out some of my Dew Drops. They worked perfectly. I really believe it's your choice of paper. 32# and being a smooth copy paper is great for a printer, but not so great with certain techniques. The smoother the card, the more likely the ink will slide into places you don't want. The embossing folder could also be slipping around. I would highly suggest trying another type of card stock...something a bit heavier. I actually can use my Canon printer with Recollections (Michaels) 65 # white card stock. Remember that not all card stock is created equally. Having a card with some tooth to it will work better for many techniques, while a smooth card will work for others. When I first started card making, I didn't believe that card stock wasn't all the same paper. I was using Joann's --- that was definitely my issue. I switched up card stock and voila I was getting better results. Let me know if you decide to try something else.

      @@villagecardandcrafts I absolutely will try again! ... ... ... Since I received your last message I've been on a scavenger hunt, and ... VOILA!!     • @amkarei
      @amkarei 10 месяцев назад

      @@villagecardandcrafts Well, I "got back to it" yesterday, but got a NASTY SURPRISE !!! The E-Folder I've been working with (Parkland "Dahlia"? "Mum"? whatever ...) WAS DESIGNED for A4 CARDS !!! I kept trying to run the thing through on the Recollections 65#, but kept coming up with the pattern UN-centered in the specified section!! I kept thinking the card stock had slipped out of the folder, because the pattern would "run off the page"!! I finally cut 4 pieces of printer paper THE size of the embossing folder, pieced them all together, and found that they made a full-sheet-size of 8 ¼" x 11 3/4" !!! ‼ I've not thrown in the towel yet, but this is going to take some jockeying, and the use of diffusers to keep the image from looking like I mis-aligned the folder. Might even have to make a panel of the image, applied to an under-layer ... we'll see. hee-hee-hee ... Wish me Luck!!
