The American A321 Flight Experience

  • After my 1st semester in San Francisco ended, I flew to Chicago, Illinois for a wedding with family and friends to celebrate. To get there, I took an American A321, one of the most common planes AA flies and on one of the most popular routes: SFO-ORD. It was just as I've come to expect from American, which isn't anything much, so in that retrospect...my expectations were met. It wasn't a bad flight, but certainly could've been better in hard product and soft. Hope you guys enjoy!

    Absolutely amazing trip report. I also have American Airlines status and if I didn’t live in their biggest hub Dallas Fort Worth, I probably wouldn’t be flying them as much. Just a month ago, me and my mom flew from Dallas Fort Worth to Boston and back on the same plane you flew on, the A321 in main cabin and I would agree with you that although the interior is brand new, I really wish that they would add PTV’s and more cushion to the seats, it would really make American Arlines shine more. Also, I’ve been watching your videos for years and absolutely love them, which makes me want to fly more.

    I think American's A321's (the newer ones, anyway) are delish. They always give me sort of a sleek hard product experience, even in Economy.

    American Airlines was once a great airline. They were the first airline that I flew on way back in 1968. It was a Boeing 707 LAX to Kennedy in NY. One of the best flights I had on American was in 1986 on a brand-new Boeing 767 flying home on leave to Fort Wayne IN. The 767 leg of the flight was from Frankfurt Germany to Chicago. The service was great and due to the late arrival of the flight into Frankfurt I missed my connection to Fort Wayne. American went ahead and made new reservations for me and also rushed me through Customs so I would make my connection with time to spare. I also flew on a new Boeing 767 on the way back to Germany.

      @@jadenstark5171 For a 9-year-old it was a very exciting trip especially after my mom had really built up the excitement of flying across the country. The 707 was the jumbo jet for its day and the seats even in coach were big and roomy. The one thing I remember was having to circle and wait to land at JFK or quite some time. I also remember the food being pretty good and there were quite a few selections from the menu too.

    7:36 As someone who works in the industry for one of your favorite carriers. I've seen that while people would love to have PTV in their seatback, I've seen in more often that when said PTV doesn't work, which is often more common than people realize, it ruins the customer's experience. By having people use their own devices, while having seatback charging ports, it allows the customer to have a more personal experience, cuts down on weight on the airplane, and allows for more leg room for the customer (we have one of the largest seat pitch in the industry for economy).
    These factors make BYOD a better business model than PTV in the seatback.

    • @frrrfrrr9177
      @frrrfrrr9177 11 месяцев назад +2

      Simply not true, JetBlue has seat back entertainment and they have the most leg room in economy with 32inchs of leg room tied with southwest. American is around 30inchs. American Airlines has the worst customer service out of all the main line airlines. Always seems like they do not care and it’s only for the money

    • @JerryNordstrom
      @JerryNordstrom 8 месяцев назад +1

      No, all those points are good for the airline, NOT for the consumer. You actually make that point... The PTV is expensive to deploy, expensive to maintain, its always broken and customers get upset when it is... so instead of fixing the issue with better systems and IT support, the airlines' response is... we'll just can it altogether and tell the customers they should bring their own... hey, perhaps they should do the same with food and blankets?

    • @erauprcwa
      @erauprcwa 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@frrrfrrr9177 Re-read my comment, I said "we have ONE OF the largest seat..." not "we have THE LARGEST", meaning Alaska isn't the only airline.
      I also mentioned IFE screens tend to be broken more often than not and ruins the customer experience.

    • @erauprcwa
      @erauprcwa 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@JerryNordstrom It's expensive... People want cheap tickets.
      It breaks often... Hard to get maintenance to fix it at an outstation that doesn't have maintenance....
      Through R&D they've found many passengers prefer their own devices with good wifi and inflight entertaining services.
      With regards to food and blankets. Again, people care more about cheap tickets than amenities. If people want MORE amenities, they'll have to pay for it, which a lot of people don't want to do.
      It's an unfortunate result of the ULCC and Southwest Airlines bringing the industry to a 'no frills' concept for short/medium routes forcing competition. Competition is always a good thing, but it caused the market to have to reduce service to compete with undercut fares and service.

    Tip for the in flight map: I found a loop hole on AA to track where you are flying through. A) Have airplane mode B) sign into the AA wifi but DO NOT purchase C) Open up Google Maps and have the tracking setting on. I've had my photos on Google Photos have a more accurate GPS location from this trick and even my Google Timeline identified (for the most part) my route from LAX to ORD and then DFW to LAX last year!

    I'd agree, BYOD is not a great idea. Tablets are not mainstream and they are generally used as a home remote control not a travel companion, a laptop is too cumbersome for that space, you have to be 18 to want to watch on a smartphone... I feel that most would rather leave their bags packed up and just flick on the seat screen.. easy. I think they also lose out on marketing, licensing and other revenue generating opportunities...

      We were sad when Lufthansa stopped flying into Linz... In addition Lufthansa ticket prices were over $800 more expensive per ticket San Diego to Munich (direct flights however). So AA it is, fortunately the connections and layovers are relatively short making total travel time about 3 hours different. Save $1,600 for 3 hours? Yes I'll take that. But there is no doubt about the quality of Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines - far superior..

    Poor planning with getting to the airport so late, not weighing your bag, and not eating. If the late arrival to the airport was due to switching to BART, also poor planning because you could have checked the Uber rates several days prior to departing. Any delay (BART, TSA, etc.) could have easily resulted in you missing your flight. If you are “on time”, then you are LATE.
