If The Beatles were a 'grunge' band from Seattle in the early '90s

- PART 2 • If The Beatles were a ... Basically, playing Beatles songs in a grungey rock style. The Beatles were a huge influence on the likes of Nirvana and Soundgarden, so in a way it kind of works. Sound wise I was going for a 'Bleach' type production sound but I think it probably came out more like Soundgarden than Nirvana.

Hi guys. Just wanted to say I really appreciate the positive response to this! I have a couple of other ideas for Beatles songs that work well in this style and I might do a part 2 or maybe record some full length versions as some suggested. Cheers!
As a grunge fan, I love this idea. As a Beatles fan, my friend would hate this. I see this as a win-win!
@@corrosivecabal Yes please, would love a pt.2
I would love to record vocals on a version, even if I do it for myself alone. Please do make full versions. I'm especially into Oregon Wood; I can absolutely hear exactly how the lead and harmonies should be adapted to that style. Also, the first one with some Alice style vocals would be beastly. Oregon Wood is more pearl jam imo.
I buy the shit out of a full album.
"Run for your Life" is too easy😝😆😆😆
I think the reason why Beatles songs sound so good in the Nirvana grunge style is because of how Paul McCartney and John Lennon famously grew up on Nirvana and Alice in Chains
John is the only one who listen to them. Paul probably more of a Weezer guy
Absolute gold
Don’t forget when they covered a nirvana song and made it their own. Same way Nine Inch Nails covered Cash’s Hurt or how Bob Dylan covered Hendrix’s Along the Watchtower
You barely have to change anything for "She's So Heavy" to become grunge, that song is pretty freaking sludgey already, especially for 1969
Hence why he didn't even need to change the name of the song. Clever, eh?
It sounds like something Alice In Chains would have done on Dirt
Way ahead of its time.
@@craigold2657 just enough passive aggression
Type os cover of it is awesome
Now I know how the Seattle sound was born. Someone who learnt to play guitar to Beatles songs, plugged into a distortion pedal and the rest is history.
Pretty much, actually. Kurt was a big beatles fan, so that's why many of the songs in the video sound like nirvana tunes.
“And I Love Her” at the end sounds a lot like the version Kurt did at home. It was a haunting touch when they used it during Montage of Heck. Great stuff.
Yeah it is basically that but just on an electric.
And it resembles Pennyroyal Tea👍
@@bloxsy_ you should do some Nirvana deep cuts like Imodium, Pen Cap Chew, Token Eastern Song, etc.
And it wasnt named, a reference to endless nameless
This is exactly the feeling I had the first time hearing Nirvana and Soundgarden back in ‘89, as if the Beatles had a heavy metal revival…
Yeah nirvana is clearly the product of people who love black sabbath and beatles equally.
@@pahwraith Same goes to the Smashing Pumpkins
@@remulo2141 yeah but they each have their own way of showing it.
This also struck me-that there’s a big 60s psychedelia influence in grunge and I love that about it
Lol you don't know what heavy metal is
Oregan wood sounds like it could come from a nirvana track. Insanely good. Would totally listen to a grunge version of Norwegian wood.
Clearly based on All apologies. : )
@@mungofinalfi4480 in fact a lot of grunge bands used to play in Drop D even more than Nirvana does
Sounded like Smashing Pumpkins to me
i was gonna say all apologies or drown from smashing pumpkiins
@@GregCarlet that's who I got to.. lol
A few of these give me Soundgarden vibes. You did good man. I would actually listen to these in real life.
Thanks man. That's a nice compliment.
Yeah when I was thinking of what to play I realised they already did a cover of it and kind of based it on that tbf.
I immediately thought of Kim Thayil going “fuck this let’s re-write all those Beatles songs the right way”
The come together riff actually is Soundgarden's cover version of the song.
@DarkShadows1011 In real life?
It blows my mind that I Want You (She’s so heavy) was written by the Beatles. Possibly the heaviest song in the world at the time of its release, and it was written by the same band who wrote I wanna hold your hand
It was that song and Yer Blues that properly opened me up to the Beatles.
Not to mention "Helter Skelter." Proto Punk from the "Love Me Do" lads.
Whilst they was writing titles of that nature, you had jim Morrison across the pond with "father I want to kill you" "mother I want to f*** you " in thier lyrics! So dark for their time (always thought of that lol) crazy!
Definitely heavy for its time but I wouldn't go as far to say heaviest in the world in 1969, that'd probably go to Sister Ray by The Velvet Underground
Really no language in sister ray. It's the story of it that makes it what it is man. Ding dong? Hahaha.
Yeah, so I’m gonna need you to drop the EP immediately. These are impeccable, man, awesome work!
Thanks man!
Levels!
Agreed, I will pay real monies for fully fleshed-out band recordings of these.
As a Brazillian, I need to say: COME TO BRAZIL MAN PLEASE IM BEGGING
@Sam Summers Oh no, another annoying person that over uses the word “so”.
"Hey Buzzo" sounds like a doom metal riff, love it!
Pure black sabbath
I actually laughed!
Very melvins
super melvins, as the title suggests. doing it in cut time is excellent. this is my favorite one.
What's Hey Buzzo made of?
“Hey Buzzo” was like the love child of Sabbath and Soundgarden. Such a sick fucking song.
Melvins
Yeah it was sick
It sounds like it could have been on Bleach.
It sounds like a doom metal riff for sure
I love how “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” sounds basically like the original. That song was way ahead of its time. Great work! 🔥
well it is the original, isn't it? and that's the point of all this (brilliant) video! great guitar tone, as well!
For real, even the name did not have to be changed ...
I love how 'I Want You (She's So Heavy) barely has to change. A timeless tune.
Day Junkhead = Daytripper
Comedown Together = Come Together
Flowman = Taxman
Oregon Wood = Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
Hey Buzzo = Hey Bulldog
I Want You (She’s So Heavy) = I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
It's amazing how grungy the Day Tripper riff is if you change just one note, wow.
Holy hell this is killer lol
“Day Junkhead” immediately had me laughing.
I totally laughed out loud! Great surprise :)
Damn Oregon Woods is my personal favorite. Hey Buzzo sounds like a Black Sabbath song.
Sounds like all apologies
I’m getting Into The Void vibes from that one
Reminds me of smashing pumpkins
She's So Heavy sounds like a Sabbath song
Oregon Wood has a very Peaches, Presidents of the USA sound
Day Junkhead - Alice in Chains
Comedown Together - Soundgarden
Flowman - Pearl Jam (so people can stop saying it's Pearl Jam)
Oregon Wood - Temple of the Dog?
Hey Buzzo - Alice in Chains/Melvins/Soundgarden
I want you (She's so heavy) - Soundgarden
Just some first impressions from the songs played :)
Flowman is clearly Pearl Jam
@@musicminute2004 I was thinking that too at first but ig I heard nirvana more
This video contains good ideas for some grunge songs!
Maybe there's no grunge bands no more but we don't really know if one day grunge can returns (I hope this!)
This ideas sounds really good!
Oregon Wood is sorta Smashing Pumpkins-ish
@@dr.corneliusq.cadbury6984 Yes of course!!
Please do a full cover of “Oregon Wood” I would love to hear the full version and be able to learn it! Awesome video man
Is Oregon Wood in drop D tuning? That sounds really good
You don't even have to change a note of I Want You (She's So Heavy). As far as I'm concerned, The Beatles may have invented Stoner metal with that song.
I mean Sabbath invented stoner metal though lol those dudes worship Iommi and I'm not even joking
@@znmckague This song predated Sabbath by months, and Ozzy is a huge fan of Lennon
it fits surprisingly well, you can definitely tell the beatles and other early rock and blues influcenced grunge A LOT
Oregan Wood sounds like a song straight off of Gish. Love it.
true
(She’s so Heavy) turned into a Black Sabbath riff somehow. I still think that might be the heaviest Beatles song to date, it’s in Drop D back in 1969.
Lol I love that no change is needed for “I Want You”
I love that She's So Heavy didn't even change, and that you included Kurt's version of And I Love Her. That last one was the perfect detail for this video. 10/10 well done!
Dude im a super beatle fan and i was in my 20's during the early 90''s this was PERFECT bud great job.
Great tones and very creative part rearrangements! Your “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” already sounds exactly how Type O Negative’s version sounds in their beatles medley. They did a 3 song beatles medley on the album “World Coming Down”.
I love how "I Want You" just sounds like the song.
Excellent work!
norwegian wood had total smashing pumpkins vibes, i already hear billy corgan singing it in my head lol
Sounds kinda A Perfect Circle-ey to me
"Who wants honey, as long as there's money..."
"Oregon Wood" fucking SLAPS!!! I can hear Cobain's voice over that clear as day. Nice work!
fasted clcik of my life
Thank you.
I actually thought about this combination a lot in my teens, very well done!
Always felt “She’s so heavy’ could be Heavy tune . Great job reimagining these hits!
Thank you!
It is god damn heavy
It is a heavy tune, though! The last minutes are insane-and not just for 1969! Timeless song.
Yeeaa I'mma need a full version of Oregon Wood, that riff is just pure ear candy excellent job, man
I love the sound of the Seatles. I hope they put out an album soon. Can't wait!
This sounds awesome would love full version covers 🤟
Gran trabajo viejo!! 👏 la mejor la q dejaste de fondo al final del video
This deserves to be a full project. This was badass 🙌🏽
This was amazing.
I loved it.
Thank you for posting.
Keep rocking!
Aside the great work of covering/editing....here U can realise how much modern bands owe to Beatles and early contemporary rock music
A+ sir
Thank you sir :)
Wow these are amazing! Your "She's So Heavy" reminds me a bit of Ozzy's "Mr. Crowley" lol Everything sounded awesome!
I initially figured that I would listen to this out of curiosity and because it was only 3 minutes, but I ended digging the hell out of this. Sounded great dude, I truly enjoyed this video.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Jeez it's amazing! I need 30 minutes more of this video!!!
I love these improvisations you’ve done here. A Dear Prudence improv would be cool 😎. Have you ever heard the hidden guitar solo George does in I Want You (She’s so heavy)? It’s really cool. Check it out. Great video. Keep killing the game like I know you will.
Thanks man. Yeah Dear Prudence would have worked. Could imagine it sounding like Neil Young or something. No I haven't heard it. I'll have to check that one out. Cheers mate. I appreciate it!
Link, please.
The best part is that you ended with And I Love Her, knowing that Kurt Cobain had a homemade cover of that song. Great job on reworking these songs
Amazing work man! I love it!
Oregon Wood brings me back to my PNW days in the late 80s/early 90s. This is awesome, thanks+ keep rockin' ✌️
Awesome stuff! Let's be honest I Want You (She's So Heavy) is basically a grunge song already :P
Excellent. I really love Soundgarden's cover of "Come Together" and considering the lyrics, it easily could have been a Soundgarden song.
Keep it up
You make a lot of great videos, this is by far the best. Excellent work man, loving the creativity
Thanks man! I appreciate it.
Man.... I've seen quite a few of your videos now and I gotta say, I love the tone of that guitar!
Thanks mate. It's got a lot to do with the Boss Katana I'm using too which I got around the same time as the guitar.
You've already have a grunge version from I want you (she's so heavy). It's called The Pretender, by the Foo Fighters. The riffs are very similar. Great songs
Oregon Wood!
This is super cool. Awesome concept and execution!
That was awesome man well done!
Soundgarden did a cover for Come Together and it souns exactly like this!
Kind of copied it a bit :)
Hey Buzzo is Just amazing
And is cool puting come together, since soundgarden made a cover of it in their early albums
Really good basis for great covers here im feeling . Good ORIGINAL covers at that. Very nice work man 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Full songs please. I love it!
I was expecting helter skelter ngl
1. Day Tripper
2. Come Together
3. Taxman
4. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
5. Hey Bulldog
6. I Want You (She's So Heavy)
I’ve rewatched this 5 times already, you completely floored me with your spin on Norwegian Wood. Would love to hear those in full :)
Thanks. Yeah I'm tempted to do some of them in full.
I rly appreciate you doing this man
Beatles were more or less the original grunge punk band in Hamburg and post-Hamburg Liverpool
Oregon Wood sounds awesome
Thanks man.
Dude!!! Thank u for this video!!! It´s my favourite from you! Loved all of it! I would love to hear a full album of Beatles songs rearranged in a grunge style. Thank you for the easter egg of "And i Love Her". Kurt's version is easily my favourite. So awesome!
This is so great, I’d love to see more like this
Oregon wood is simply awesome, but how come you missed helter skelter. It is literally the first grunge song by anyone.
Thats so true, when I heard Helter Skelter for the fist time without being told it was the Beatles, I initially thought it was some 90s grunge or punk song
Not "literally." Most music historians call it the first heavy metal song. The first grunge songs were said to be made by Neil Young and Crazy Horse. That's why he's often called the Godfather of Grunge.
I knew 'I want you" would be there 🤘I love that you didn't really had to change anything haha
What I'm hearing is completely believable, good job dude!
I can't be satisfied with just one video of if beatles were a grunge from seattle, release another video please, these is soooooo gooooood
Day Junkhead and Oregon Woods give Nirvana vibes. You did an awesome job
Super cool! I remember reading how Kurt was into Meet The Beatles when he came up with About A Girl. That was always a huge for me to meld those two influences. Nice work, this is rad!
You sound great brother! Love it!!
Your best video so far! Great sense of humor and creativity. 'Hey Buzzo' sounds really great!
Thanks mate! Appreciate it.
I need a part 2 of this!!!!
Didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I did! 🤣🙌🏼
Great job man 🙌🏼💙🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks!
I was worried about what I was going to listen to, but I have to say you did a great job, it’s a different interpretation without messing the original. Really enjoyed your sound 👍
these are so good just wish they were full covers especially Oregon wood, hey buzzo, and I want you, such a vibe would listen to them daily
Great work! Hey Buzzo is insane!!
This is seriously some superfuzz big muff territory. Nice stuff dude
Now this is some good stuff! Oregon Wood!!! Hahahahah Man you nailed the distortion sound. Incredible.
First time ever seeing any of your videos. This rocks. Definitely subbing. Keep up the great work!
Thanks man. I appreciate it.
Hey Buzzo, jeez, you killed me...with laughter. Great job! Love what you do, brother. I was in college 90-94. Great days. Saw Nirvana live in ATL just before Cobain...died. Will music ever be that good again? I'm getting old now, but I still have hope.
I'm subscribing just so I can get an alert when the full length versions of these bad boys are released.
Great job! Very well interpreted!
i love you bro, this is a really good video
Que hermoso experimento! Gracias Bloxsy
I would so very much love to hear the full songs. Especially "Oregon Wood." I hope you release them at some point. This could totally be an album, even just instrumental, that people like me would buy. : )
This is incredible I'm surprised how well you got the tone and feel of 90s grunge
Nailed it with Hey Buzzo!! Amazing 🤩
Wow this is a brilliant take on The Beatles!! I would love to see I want you, developed into an actual band gig with another guitar, bass drums and synth. Great sound!! Congratulations!!
love your clean tone
Oregon wood gave me a Mother love bone feeling, love your videos man :D
Thanks man!
This is great. So cool. Absolutely blown away.
I could listen to guitars all day.
Huge sound, very fitting. Could see the grunge gods ripping this. Awesome job mate. 👌
your videos are always amazing🙌🏻🙌🏻and this sounds amazing!
Thank you!
This is insanely good! Love it!
Great tones, mate! Keep it up 👍
