At first is so weird and challenging listening to in Utero but when you keep listening to it you can feel it and tell that is as good as their previous albums
This video is just more evidence on how much you can do with a basic (in a good way) Kurt/Nirvana tone. I don't mean that in a bad way at all. I just mean that I've seen countless videos of people trying to nail Kurt's tone and you've done it with stock sounds from a Katana. I feel like any basic distorted sound will get you there and everything else is all feel and playing loose. Another great video bro!
instead of going out of your way to find kurts exact gear just get whats cheap and works (like a certain someone). my rig is a modded mustang, an old peavy amp i got for free, a samsamp clone and chorus from behringer. both pedals are like $30 and my tone is closer than 90% of the people who have what kurt used
@@SoggyBacco totally agree. I think its cringey when people try to get the exact gear anyway it's better to be inspired by a sound and make your own from that starting point then to just blatantly copy it
One of the things that always gets me is how great the song writing and the guitar work on In Utero are. Kurt was great as far back as the demos for Bleach, but he was still getting better, and the band was really building into something beyond incredible. Those live performances with Pat in the band are just top notch. And "You Know You're Right" really leaves us with a big "what if?"
@@Jakes21420 "Grunge" isn't a defined genre, it's just a catch-all term used for a lot of Seattle bands from the late 80s - early 90s. Notice how Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are both considered grunge but don't sound very alike. Nirvana was a grunge band and a punk band, these things aren't mutually exclusive.
I’ve been waiting for this day to come like no other, I’m a diehard Nirvana fan and i’m just really glad for this. Best Nirvana album to me, the playing and tone is near perfect! Great video!
glad you did "gallons of rubbing alcohol," one of my favorite nirvana songs despite just being a jam :D how are you liking the pacifica? been noticing it in all your vids as of late and have been thinking about picking one up for a while
Mustangs are cool but tuning stability is cooler. Pacificas are awesome. I have both. the mustang is great if i don't touch the trem, but it's just. too. tempting. arghhhh
It's crazy how Kurt is often ridiculed for being a terrible guitarist yet he consistently wrote awesome memorable riffs. Songwriting is so much more important and harder than shredding.
Ty for making this! While watching this I learned how to play a couple by watching you do it! Also this is amazing, it sounds just like Kurt playing :).
Loved that, as most of the comments below say, you tone was bang on again! 👌 Amazing album, All Apologies for me, such a lovely simple melody but clever and was a drop D song I learned very early on playing guitar. Made me realise dropping down isn’t always to make a song sound heavier 👍 Enjoyed that and looking forward to the next one 🎸🤘
Heart-Shaped Box is still one of the most beautiful riffs ever written. And Serve the Servants really shows how much Kurt was influenced by The Beatles.
I was just listening to In Utero the other day thinking how well it holds up, it still sound vital and fresh (to my admittedly 90's guitar loving ears anyway) It's almost 29 years old, go back another 29 years and the Beatles were still in there early album pre-Rubber Soul stage!
All your tones and the crisp sound of the recording makes me think that this is an original instrumental! Amazing! As a hardcore Nirvana fan, I love this!!! Did you have to tune in the middle of songs to play different ones at all?

Scentless Apprentice’s drumming and guitar riffs show how well Kurt and Dave can write together.
Dave wrote both the drum beat and riff. So it’s Dave’s writing
