***** Hmmm good question. Obviously it needs to be food safe. Maybe walnut oil or butcher block oil. It would need to be applied every so often.

This is amazing! Do you create hand held kitchen mortars as well(for crushing garlic, herbs, spices...etc.)? I'd certainly be interested in one if you'll ever consider making one. Most of the ones on the internet are tall enough but, unfortunately, not wide enough. Looking for something in the area of 6" 's - 8" 's in height, 4.5 " 's in depth and 5" s - 6" 's in dia. or greater. I would imagine oak would run into quite an expense and, a bit of an overkill. Any other heavy type wood would probably work out just as well. Would love hearing from you.

+D Lore Thank you! I have only created this mortar and pestle as far as kitchen mortars...but I'm sure I could make what you're looking for. I might have some oak in the shop if that's what you'd want? If you send me a message through RUclips we can talk about it a little more :) thanks again for watching!

Did you use the shavings to Polish the pestle? Does that work?
And what's the best way to contact you if I want to talk to you about something?

I sanded that up to 800 grit then used the shavings to "burnish" the surface., it does give it a very slight polish. I didn't want to use the buffing compound mix I usually use because it will be used with food and I am not sure if that stuff is "food safe". I finished both the inside of the mortar and the pestle with multiple coats of mineral oil. Although I think next time I would like to try using a salad bowl or butcher block finish to do a test and see what works the best. Thanks for watching!
