      I suspect a lot of people couldn't tell what the line was, or didn't know what the line referred to (flipping over a single record to play that back 'not hit' side). I've seen BOC a small bunch of times and I've always remembered that for a while there while playing this tune Buck would mime flipping a record using his hand as the record while he carefully enunciated the line. So I guess they knew that the line was a mystery to some of their listeners. Fun song, and Buck NEVER failed to impress me with his playing every time I've seen them.

      Most bands would give their left arm to have a song like this. The fact that BOC had two, this one, and Don’t Fear The Reaper, is amazing.

    • @dmn23
      @dmn23 8 месяцев назад +1

      They're stone classics and I'd never dispute that. But at the same time they're also two of the least interesting songs in their catalog and I think that speaks volumes about the band. BOC at their creative peak were a weird, clever band with monstrous musicianship.

    • @PaulMurray_writer
      @PaulMurray_writer 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@dmn23 yeah, I’d agree - their commercial songs are the most atypical BÖC offerings although Godzilla is just pure unadulterated rock. I’d always been drawn to their esoteric, mystical lyrics and stuff like Black Blade where Bloom collaborated with Michael Moorcock and they explored sci-fi, conspiracy and sword & sorcery themes, some dark controversy with songs like Joan Crawford, Unknown Tongue - just sublime.
      Their most popular song of all, Reaper, while an awesome creation is, again, atypical BÖC - I think they defy categorisation but my pictorial history or rock book had them pegged as Intelligent Hard Rock. Who cares? They’re just a great band especially in their original formation.

    BÖC remains one of the most underrated bands in the history of rock. They have produced so many genius, memorable songs. Cultosaurus Erectus, Fire Of Unknown Origin, The Revolution By Night, Spectres, Mirrors, the “Black & White” albums - there are so many. Even their later stuff is worth a listen. Heaven Forbid etc. fantastically talented group. There’s also a thread that runs through their albums courtesy of Sandy Pearlman (producer and writer for the band in the early days - RIP) that speaks to a conspiratorial type back story. A kind of conceptual continuity.
    One of my favourite bands of all time.

    Glad to see you two appreciating BOC. Very under rated today especially by reactors. They were very important to the hard rock scene. People talk about the "Unholy trinity" of Led Zep, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, BOC was right there with them and are the American version, along with Mountain--to make a trinity throw in Jimi Hendrix or maybe even Alice Cooper or maybe someone else I'm not thinking of right now.
    Anyway, yall need to hit some of the early BOC--"Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll" or "Then Came the Last Days of May" are good to start out with.

    I'm glad you guys liked it. When I'm Burnin For You first came out I was in high school and I thought well maybe that's a little too pop compared to some of the other stuff I like from them, although I definitely liked it. It just felt good.
    But then I saw them in concert again around that time and they were known for their cutting edge laser light show at the time and they really went all out with this song, and the whole experience made me just kind of sink into it? And then it was stuck deep in me forever and it still sounds so good to me. I could hear this over and over again.

    Richard Meltzer, along with Pearlman and several other students, earned money on the side as booking agents for the big musical acts that came to Stony Brook in the 1960s. Following that, the two started writing lyrics and arranging gigs for a musical group they were promoting, Soft White Underbelly, later renamed Blue Öyster Cult (BÖC). Meltzer wrote the lyrics for many of the band's songs, including the hit "Burnin' for You".
    In 2012, Meltzer contributed spoken-word parts to Spielgusher, a musical collaboration with bassist Mike Watt, drummer Yuko Araki and guitarist Hirotaka Shimizu. Meltzer and Watt had originally hoped to collaborate during Watt's time in The Minutemen, but it was not completed before the death of Minutemen guitarist D. Boon.

    BOC is one of the best American bands of the 70's. They are still touring Eric Bloom has been in the band since day one.

      @@phillipweber2074 thanks WEBER! I'm a tad buzzed. But yea..... I fell in love with all the usual BOC songs,... And my dad pulled me aside in about 1983, and said. LISTEN TO THIS! LOL. Have a good night!

    Long Islands own BOC! Otherwise known as Soft White Underbelly. Hailed from StonyBrook Univ. (The Berkeley of the East) this song is my favorite from them. This music history lesson from a person named Relayer8782 -“I’ve long known that Patti Smith had co-written a couple of songs with BOC for Agents Of Fortune, and that she had been in a relationship with Allen Lanier. But I was looking deeper today, and realized that she co-wrote a full half-dozen BOC songs between 1974 and 1983. Just a fun little factoid about BOC’s connection to the High Priestess of Punk”

    I Love B.O.C. but you need to listen to the First album! This song is sooo commercial. Start with "Transmaniacon M C", and go through the entire album. You will appreciate how their music started out. Thanks, RXM1

    You should check out The Golden Age Of Leather off their Spectres album. It's got a heavy jammin base line through the song! Back in the day, it was one of our go to party songs.(especially the beginning🍻) BOC doesn't disappoint! 😎

    Damn. I was just a lil when this came out when all my worries were finding quarters for the ice-cream man! Now I have ill parents, layoffs, etc. That “YOU” note the he holds onto his the butterflies 🦋 in my tummy. Dang, music is epic! I’m 51 today and SO grateful I grew up on a street with a TON of different aged children. I freaking love music!! 🎶
