In Yakuza 3 u don't have to go to Okinawa to change the time,u can change the time by talking to saki and by talking to Miki at the ryudou family office un Okinawa while in kamurocho u can change the time at majima family office by talking to nishida and at new serena
My petty complaint is that I can dress up during the story in the Fist of the Northstar game and Ishin but not in any other game. (Except Yakuza 7 during combat). This inconsistenty annoys me. I always asked myself... what's the point of funny outfits if I can't use them when it would be funny! Why can't I use the diguises in Judgment whenever I want. It's right there. There's a fucking menu for it in your phone but it's blocked off. Why? I just wanna kick ass in cutscenes and boss fights as Shinada the Shrimpman or Yagami in a golden tracksuit.
in the DE games when u run out of stamina you can go in a light jog by holding the stick about halfway then holding the sprint button its faster than walking and consumes no stamina
the biggest inconsistency for me is that the lockers Ichiban was left in when he was born in the 80's, aren't actually there when you play as Kiryu in Yakuza 0/1 (which is supposed to happen during the 80's)
Another inconsistency was the scene where the woman giving birth to arakawa's son calls Arakawa himself. In the background, you can see Club Sega outside the window, but if the scene is a flashback set in the 80s, then the Club Sega building should be Sega Hi Tech Land, like in Yakuza 0. If replacing the building wasn't an option, they could've covered the window more so that you couldn't even make out the building and its details. Oops.
the running/sprinting in Kiwami 2 and 6, you can sprint forever after you drink that prolong your sprint time from vending machine. You literally can sprint forever after drinking that. The drink says prolong your sprint time for a certain time but it's a lie lol
There’s an weird thing with Yakuza 5 where every time you go into a ultimate battle with Kiryu or Shinada, and you use their ground heat move, it shows the extended version, then switches to the normal version after. It doesn’t really matter but it does add a good 3 seconds
@@mopishcobra6 yeah, it’s shown the first time you use it. It’s also for Shinada’s ground heat move, where he slams the enemy twice. Not sure if there was a qte that would’ve been given to do extra damage but it feels like that’s the case
Ohh I just thought of an interesting topic for a video. Talking about some of the city stories I guess you could call them. You know all the small stories about the people of kamerocho that happen across the games that aren't usually part of the main story but always really cool. I mean stuff like the park with homeless people in 1 and 0 getting turned into the kamerocho hill's construction site in 2. Which is then slowly being constructed in the background until being completed in 5. Another example, that's actually related, is all the homeless people who had to relocate from west park because of the construction and the new places they have to call home like the dragon palace, the sewers, or underneath kamero theater. It could also just be substory characters that get to continue their story across Multiple games. An obvious example of this komaki in basically every game teaching you new moves and furthering his Dojo a little bit each time. Then there's the couple from 1, 2, 3 who are just the worst. For a more recent example we also have pocket circuit and the Order of Munan Chohept Onast. Which both tell three part stories that led these side characters interact with the protagonists at various stages of their life. I don't know all of this lore about the city of kamerocho is probably one of my favorite things about the series, it really makes the world feel real and lived in because it actually evolves and changes as time goes by. and I would love to see a video going through some of it.
12:23 I grinded most of the SP points I needed for the entire game in Lost Judgment on Ijin Street because it will constantly spawn mobs at both ends of the street, so by the time you finish one encounter, you’ve already entered the next one lmao.
I have a strange compulsion to beat up any man I possibly can in these games so sometimes I literally got stuck on Ijin street until I got instakilled by one of the annoying super high-damage attacks of the miniboss with the gold suit and had all the XP and items I got erased because for some reason you can't just press retry and start the fight again or get respawned at the same point like in all the other games but it throws you all the way back to the last autosave and it's really annoying. I mean it wasn't so bad because SP is really easy to rack up in Lost Judgement and it's not like you ever get any super rare or valuable items from street fights, even the gold suited minibosses only give you 50k which isn't terrible but it's also really not a whole lot but still, it's just annoying.
Nah I'm with you on the Sprinting fiasco. I remember when I first played Kiwami 2 I immediately got pissed Kiryu couldnt run for long without losing his breath. I remember I basically had a weak ass Kiryu halfway through K2 and Y6 because I would spend all my points on getting the Sprint high enough where it would not piss me off
I really wish you could turn of the guide buttons in LAD in LJ. It's kinda annoying it takes up screen space. I also which you could just switch audio in-game without going back to the main menu like the persona ports.
I just remembered something else, also specific to console versions. It’s the lack of separate volume sliders for music, sound effects and voices. I don’t remember if there were any at all before Ishin remake (that’s where the sliders finally showed up), but they are definitely not there in all of Dragon Engine games on consoles. Usually it doesn’t bother me, because I find the default levels of volume acceptable, but there is an exception. In the first Judgment game you just can’t hear the music, because the voices and sound effects during the fights are SO LOUD and you can’t do anything about it. Fuck this. I can’t come up with a single reason behind it, given that there ARE separate volume sliders in these games on PC. I hope that in Gaiden they won’t randomly disappear for some reason again
I'm glad someone else is talking about this, after my first playthrough of Judgment I listened to the OST on my phone and I was shocked the first time I heard The Laff Riot and Hyenas Wheezing because I legitimately couldn't hear them in the game. I'm glad they fixed the balancing some for the later DE games, but it wasn't even that bad in Yakuza 6 or K2 either so I don't know how they messed up so badly
I'm honestly glad I'm not the only one with that issue haha. When I played Yakuza 6 for the first time on console I probably heard about 1% of the music because everything else was way too loud lol. But it's also really good to just be able to mute the music for recording so I could've mentioned that. A very good point indeed
@@SnowiestAngeman It drives me crazy that there's no way to adjust the volume for things. While the music is great and all I wish I could turn it off so I could enjoy listening to other stuff on Pandora while I'm spending hours working on random stuff to get to 100%.
I think you can change the time of day at New Serena in Yakuza 3 too, by talking to the Mama. She should ask Kiryu if he wants to rest and that will pass the time of the day, but I'm too lazy to reinstall this game to confirm or deny it.
For the Y5 near Serena encounters, it’s probably cuz the game saves the RNG seed so you will get those same encounters every time you load that exact file. You can see it best with the lottery where you’ll get the exact same results just reloading a save
I know I'm really late on this video but another thing to add to the map button is being able to put a pin down on the map for a secondary marker, it's so helpful when it's there and missed when it isn't
An annoying thing I’ve encountered recently is that in the original Yakuza 1 and 2, the button to exit the inventory is TRIANGLE for some reason instead of circle, so I had to get used to that. Then when I went back to one of the newer games I kept accidentally pressing triangle trying to exit the inventory
That’s actually quite a common thing with all games of that era. Back in the PS2 days, it was extremely common to back out of menus, inventories etc. with triangle, and it was more so from the PS3 generation onwards that we started seeing circle as the button used for that (and X in Japan, because their circle and X prompts are reversed generally).
Yeah older PS2 games in the west had triangle be the back button for whatever reason. It wasn't until Xbox games made it the B button that developers just made the back button in the same spot across Xbox and PlayStation 'cause it was easier lol. So B and Circle
So, really dumb workaround for Ishin's pause button. Use Autohotkey to reassign escape to whatever you have the menu keybind set to. So when you press escape it thinks you're pressing M, for example. Legitimately, if you play games on PC frequently, learn how to use Autohotkey. It's like the easiest way to fix weird control issues. It also allows you to multi-bind stuff, which is also nice. Like you could set, say, ctrl + alt + middle mouse all to fighting stance, so you can use any of them whenever you wanted to. This is particularly useful for games that ask you to mash buttons frequently, as you can set multiple keys to the same input and basically just double mash to really cheese stuff lol (or just set up a full-on autoclicker type thing for the mash button, but eh.) The reason I say use autohotkey is that it's extremely easy to utilize just for one specific game, as it's just a script you run and the script can even include it's own quit function keybind.
Indeed. I always hold the fighting stance button anyway but it was because Judgment added the choice between sprinting and walking in combat, so pressing the dodge button without locking on makes you sprint. Although, I dunno if it's in Judgment, but I'm pretty sure in Lost Judgment you can evade by pressing the sprint button without holding a direction or the lock on button and you'll still dodge
@@SnowiestAngeman maybe it's because the people that made the pc port for 0 and kiwami are completely different from the ones that do the later entries (remastered 3-5, dragon engine games)
I did NOT know you could just call a taxi from wherever you were in Like a Dragon, i wasted so much time running to the nearest taxi to go across the map, holy fuck. Well, i'll take this into account for new game + i guess.
I had no idea that you can call taxis with your phone in Y7... I wasted all that time running to that fucking taxi when I could have just pull up my phone and get a cab...
You still need to interact with the taxis in order to them to appear on the map. I ignored most of them early on, and I found myself only able to take the taxi to at least two locations near the homeless encampment.
15:35 as a console Player Yes ffs i hate this so much especialy on legend playthroughs of the judgment games if i die it always loads u back into the God damn main menu Same with Just loading idk why its like that but its such a pain in the ass
At least you can do a little jog in 6 and K2 so you can actually get around without losing all your stamina instantly. But holding the stick not the whole way is kind of annoying
Funny addition to the whole thing about taxi prices, taking a taxi directly from the map in LAD:IW is more expensive than walking up to a taxi on the street, I guess thats the cost of using ride sharing services
The worst inconsistency for me is that one of the judgment games (I think the OG) for some reason just requires the minimap to be in a fixed position, while every other game lets you rotate it with the camera.
I missed the notes about music you were using a few times, and I thought my brain was split in half as I heard Atlus-affiliated music in a Yakuza video. What are you doing to me, man?
This is not an inconsistency, but what I started to really hate when replying the Yakuza games is have limited save files. In Lost Judgment, I try to get all the main story and substories battles on a save file to replay them any time, but they have a stupid limit for how many you can have. Which is infuriating with how many battles exist in Lost judgment.
Yeah actually I didn't realise that was a thing until Judgment. It's a thing that probably was necessary in old games but definitely not modern ones so I dunno why they do it haha
This is a testament to how garbage the user interface for most Japanese games usually is. I'll never play ishin as in the demo it was impossible to change some controls even for controllers. Judgment improved quite a lot. I'd like to play the old Yakuza games, I only played 0 but I don't think I want to try the first 2-3 games because of these issues.
I'm shocked how in the Yokohama enemy pack spawns you didn't mention the one that spawns just outside Survive to the left EVERY time you leave the place without exception. I'll go there for like karaoke or a bond convo or just health recovery and come out and that mf pack is always there.
Let's not forget that if you go south in Kamurocho (I think it's Senryu Boulevard or something like that, it's been awhile) in 0, the fair jumps from the 660 to 10,000 because of "demand"
one thats been getting to me lately is kamurochos hotel district flip flopping on whether or not it has a taxi. yakuza 4 was the first to have that specific taxi and it was in next couple games after it but starting w yakuza 6 its gone due to the top parts of the map being blocked off. kiwami 2 restores the lost parts of the map along w the taxi that was in it. and then judgment removed the taxi there and its been gone since. its not the end of the world that its gone but at came in handy when you needed to be in the north center of the map since the other north taxis are all the way in the corners. i get why 6 couldnt have it, but i dont get why every DE game after kiwami 2 removed it.
In Yakuza 6 when you grab a drink from a vending machine you physically carry it around and have to hold a button to drink it, instead of it just going to your inventory or something. I dunno if that's exactly what you were asking but hopefully it was lol
The problem with playing a series of very similar games that encourage meticulous completionism is that any nits or inconsistencies become infuriating. New Serena's location changes make me want to Tiger Drop RGG Studios fr
Let me just stay this No auto save nor the ability to save from everywhere for the longest time Like do u know which game allowed auto saves?
Yeah they reeally missed this
It wasnt Ichiban, it was arakawas son
@@resyntax ichiban was his son
someone didn't finish like a dragon
Another inconsistency was the scene where the woman giving birth to arakawa's son calls Arakawa himself. In the background, you can see Club Sega outside the window, but if the scene is a flashback set in the 80s, then the Club Sega building should be Sega Hi Tech Land, like in Yakuza 0.
If replacing the building wasn't an option, they could've covered the window more so that you couldn't even make out the building and its details. Oops.
4:10 this might the most subtle subscribe message I've seen in a video lol
the running/sprinting in Kiwami 2 and 6, you can sprint forever after you drink that prolong your sprint time from vending machine.
Wait I’m not crazy? There is a slightly longer version of Essence Of Face Grating?
The extended version is used for the first time using these heat actions.
I remember I basically had a weak ass Kiryu halfway through K2 and Y6 because I would spend all my points on getting the Sprint high enough where it would not piss me off
Glad I'm not the only one then haha
You earned a sub for that microsoft flight stick bit 😂
I don't think the quickstep strike in Judgment requires a double tap, I think they just have a specific timing window.
Bruh... You just dropped on me that you can save anywhere in yakuza kiwami. I was just running to savepoints all the time... uff
Same
I really wish you could turn of the guide buttons in LAD in LJ.
Recently played smt 4. Vibing to the background music made me forget I was watching the video lol
It is an absolutely amazing game
God bless consoles and their never changing layout
no loading on the judgement pc ports is single handedly the most annoying thing to ever exist
You can see it best with the lottery where you’ll get the exact same results just reloading a save
god this channel is so good
Judgment not having a rotating minimap option took me a while to get used to.
Oh boy, I also DESPISE Kim and his messages of the god damn Keihin Gang... perhaps one of the most annoying gimmicks in Judgment.
“and B/ZR if you’re sexy”
ah yes, switch pro controller for judgment :)
So B and Circle
btw i think in yakuza 3 you can also change time at the Ryudo's family office
yeah not being able to load from the pause menu in judgment made scamming gambling early game to get some money a lot more annoying
9:00 Having been to Kabukicho recently, Gindaco is at its current location because its real-life counterpart is there as well.
I love your commentary style so much. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed :) based Kawakami profile pic
9:37 did you sing there????
I'm sorry to say but uhhh... no. I did not :(
@@SnowiestAngeman no your life's completion list on 100%, I guess :(
"Activating" taxis in Y:LaD so they would be available later. wtf?
Saki has the power to change the time of day
10:30 you can talk to the mama at serena to rest and change the time of the day
Hey guys wake up snowiestangeman dropped an another banger!
umm ackshully…
…using a Microsoft SideWinder Joystick to play Yakuza is chad behavior. 😤
This is particularly useful for games that ask you to mash buttons frequently, as you can set multiple keys to the same input and basically just double mash to really cheese stuff lol (or just set up a full-on autoclicker type thing for the mash button, but eh.)
The reason I say use autohotkey is that it's extremely easy to utilize just for one specific game, as it's just a script you run and the script can even include it's own quit function keybind.
I’m pretty sure in Judgement, they changed quick step to only work if you were holding lock-on, which I’m too stupid to know how to use
4:01 Finally an actual massive inconsistentency, that stuff annoyed me when I went to kiwami to kiwami 2
Yeah I dunno why it's so hard for them to just come up with a set of default binds and just leave it like that for all of them haha
@@SnowiestAngeman maybe it's because the people that made the pc port for 0 and kiwami are completely different from the ones that do the later entries (remastered 3-5, dragon engine games)
You know what other game has the pause button at M? DOA 5. The N button is set to N by the way.
I feel the same with how they changed the camera reset button to the analog stick instead of rt/r2 at least it is rebindable though
That one actually physically hurt my soul. Why did they do that lol
2:40 never expected to hear this soundtrack 🤍
hey ange. great content!
Bro in 3, I'm sure Serena has that ability too
Hold up u sure u cant change the Time in kamurocho (Y3)?
Im so sure u Just talk to the mama in serena and she lets u change the Time Just like saki
You forgot about the biggest inconsistency... in yakuza 3 the florist said that he built purgatory himself, but it's in like a dragon Ishin 🤔
I like the Fire Emblem Engage song at the beginning :)
My fav song to play at the Somniel.
An excellent choice for the Somniel
I did NOT know you could just call a taxi from wherever you were in Like a Dragon, i wasted so much time running to the nearest taxi to go across the map, holy fuck. Well, i'll take this into account for new game + i guess.
12:20 I find it weird that the Men In Black in Y0 always appear in front of the Kamurucho karaoke bar
I had no idea that you can call taxis with your phone in Y7... I wasted all that time running to that fucking taxi when I could have just pull up my phone and get a cab...
The last time I mentioned that I saw someone say the exact same thing . I am very sorry for your loss :(
You still need to interact with the taxis in order to them to appear on the map. I ignored most of them early on, and I found myself only able to take the taxi to at least two locations near the homeless encampment.
I counted 7 smiley faces in the description and it took me a minute to realise it was sarcasm
15:35 as a console Player
Yes ffs i hate this so much especialy on legend playthroughs of the judgment games if i die it always loads u back into the God damn main menu
Same with Just loading idk why its like that but its such a pain in the ass
M for pause is crazy
what if the pause button is M in ishin because the devs also couldnt figure out how to set it to esc
You're probably right and also the MasterFoods tomato sauce is indeed the best one
@@SnowiestAngeman based and tomatopilled
You are right about the console loading thing
At least you can do a little jog in 6 and K2 so you can actually get around without losing all your stamina instantly. But holding the stick not the whole way is kind of annoying
Man the inability to load without going to the main menu was really frustrating for me on Yakuza 7 on PS4
Funny addition to the whole thing about taxi prices, taking a taxi directly from the map in LAD:IW is more expensive than walking up to a taxi on the street, I guess thats the cost of using ride sharing services
1:23 wait it's a toggle? I'm on chapter 7 and I'm just now learning this
The worst inconsistency for me is that one of the judgment games (I think the OG) for some reason just requires the minimap to be in a fixed position, while every other game lets you rotate it with the camera.
@@SnowiestAngeman its even worse because only the dragon engine games/ishin remake have limited save slots
My gut feeling would be that taxis are more expensive in soutenbori than in kamurocho because they are in real life aswell
Sprint toggle is so great, but sometimes Ichiban repeatedly runs past the safe I want to open cause I'm in a hurry
3:56
Well now you have to speedrun the entire series using that controller
I'm shocked how in the Yokohama enemy pack spawns you didn't mention the one that spawns just outside Survive to the left EVERY time you leave the place without exception. I'll go there for like karaoke or a bond convo or just health recovery and come out and that mf pack is always there.
Being a Yakuza camparison RUclipsr is truly a thankless job.
Let's not forget that if you go south in Kamurocho (I think it's Senryu Boulevard or something like that, it's been awhile) in 0, the fair jumps from the 660 to 10,000 because of "demand"
one thats been getting to me lately is kamurochos hotel district flip flopping on whether or not it has a taxi. yakuza 4 was the first to have that specific taxi and it was in next couple games after it but starting w yakuza 6 its gone due to the top parts of the map being blocked off. kiwami 2 restores the lost parts of the map along w the taxi that was in it. and then judgment removed the taxi there and its been gone since. its not the end of the world that its gone but at came in handy when you needed to be in the north center of the map since the other north taxis are all the way in the corners. i get why 6 couldnt have it, but i dont get why every DE game after kiwami 2 removed it.
they should've brought back sprinting stamina for when kiryu runs in LAD Infinite Wealth
2:03 how did you drink while walking like that?
In Yakuza 6 when you grab a drink from a vending machine you physically carry it around and have to hold a button to drink it, instead of it just going to your inventory or something. I dunno if that's exactly what you were asking but hopefully it was lol
@@SnowiestAngeman I’ve been playing Kiwami 2 & thought I could do that lol
The problem with playing a series of very similar games that encourage meticulous completionism is that any nits or inconsistencies become infuriating. New Serena's location changes make me want to Tiger Drop RGG Studios fr
3:10 I had no idea that's how Kurohyou is said. I always said Kuro--hy-oh like a filthy Westerner.
that "change from time to time" line was incredibly dumb but also incredibly smooth.
me dack stank
Let me just stay this
No auto save nor the ability to save from everywhere for the longest time
Like do u know which game allowed auto saves? Freaking kiwami 2
Yes the remake of the second game
U know how many hours I lost bc of this
Ugh, as much as I love these games
No auto saves was its biggest crime
Amazing games but damn quality of life improvement come so late 😅
