    I have been accidentally twisting my stitches and this has cleared up exactly what I was doing wrong. I have no idea I was going through the back loop instead of where I should have been. My stitches look so much better now

    You give such good explanations and use the correct terminology for all knitting styles. Some who think they are good teachers of knitting may mixing terms in knitting leading to confusion when written instructions obviously conform to these conventions. Stacy, you are just the BEST!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 лет назад

      Thank you! In defense of other teachers (and perhaps myself), knitting patterns can use ANY name for a technique, and there aren't really any standards. I try my best to use the common terminology, and point out any other names, but techniques often have many different names. I can assure you of this - I use the same terminology, the words I learned over the last 40 years of knitting, in all of my videos.

    This is a timely video! I knitted a hat wherein the pattern specifically say for the rib - k1tbl, p1. I just followed the pattern not understanding why it should be k1tbl instead of k1. After finishing the rib, I favor thek1tbl, p1 combination rather than k1,p1. Your video just made it clearer for me the significance/effect of twisted stitches. :)

    Well I knit an entire scarf with all the stitches twisted😅 this helped clear up why at least. Also appreciate that the applications of why you would do this on purpose are shown here too.

    Oh, wow! I've been knitting for nearly twenty years now (since I was eight) and I never realized, but this is how I purl! I always wondered why my purling looked different from my knitting. I guess this is what happens when a right-handed person teaches you the knit stitch and a left-handed person teaches you the purl stitch, lol. Time to re-teach myself!

    Could you do a follow up showing the best ways to correct a twisted stitch that's a few rows back? I've been teaching a friend how to knit and each time I visit I see the odd one crept into the stockinette but I don't want to rip back. Many thanks in advance, love you videos and have made several projects from your tutorials. Happy New Year :) xx

    I've done this it was horrendous and I couldn't figure out why it was happening. it was because I was purling and instead of. wrapping counter clockwise I was just picking it without wrapping. I figured out how to "fix" my twists by kbl! I blame the Knook for it, I learned to knit with it first and it was just easier lol

    Thank you so much for the great explanation. (All of your videos are great explanations!) It would have been helpful also if you could show how the WS (purl side) looked on that one swatch where you had bottom half regular and top half twisted. Does the purl side of twisted stockinette appear significantly different, too? Hmm, guess I could knit a swatch and see, huh?

    I've been knitting for a long time and didn't even realize this was a thing until I was wanting to make some mittens and it says to adjust the pattern from men's med to women's small twist all knit stitches. Still not sure how that would downsize the pattern though.

    Hi Stacy, the swatch you just showed us where you have regular stockinette stitch on the bottom, but the twisted version on top, is it ktbl one row instead of regular knit one row, and purl one row to achieve the twisted effect. Tanx

    I was given a scarf as a teen by a family friend, Peggy, who died the other day. One row is twisted and the next is not. In stockinette. When I started knitting, I took the scarf to a yarn shop and the owner taught me to knit but with that stitch. She called the twist "Irish." Now years later, I've forgotten how to do it and would like to relearn the technique to honor Peggy. I get the twist with the knit stitches but lose it when I purl. Any thoughts would be great. Thank you. By the way. I love the all twisted fabric you create. What happens on the purl side with that? Thanks and best wishes!

      @@verypinkknits Thank you. I've done this purl with double-knit decreases. This isn't the way I knit early on. Whatever I did was much easier. I'll experiment with different combinations of inserting the needles and wraps. Maybe I can get back to it and if I do, I'll let you know how the twist done on Peggy's scarf. Best wishes!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  3 года назад

      In this video, I'm knitting a flat piece on a circular needle. You can knit twisted knit stitches (or twisted rib) on a flat piece or a piece knit in-the-round (in a tube).

    I am a rather new knitter and came from the world of crochet. So when i picked up knitting with my husband i been knitting twisted the whole time. Can you tell me what problems i will run into by knitting this way? also what about more advanced knitting tech. like cables will that be possible if i knit threw the back? I have tried knitting "properly" but find that it hurts my writs so to prevent pain i knit what is most comfortable for me. any advice you can give me to help is greatly appreciated

      Uni Corn If you would like to knit a bigger peace in a round (a hat, or a jumper) the whole work will twist a little because the twisted stitches. I knitted a hat that way at once. I don't like to wear it.

      I just picked up crochet and realized how you wrap the yarn is opposite from knitting. In knitting you wrap the yarn from back to front. I learned how to knit from a crocheter and worked it from front to back until someone else saw my twisted stitches and corrected me... Hope that helps!

    • @ZoieFuia
      @ZoieFuia 4 года назад +1

      @@Mamooshka220 you just helped me realize the reason why my knit stitches have always been mounted weird in comparison to every one else!
      I've been compensating by thinking of them as left and right legs rather than front and back.
      I'll have to keep this in mind when I do things more elaborate than stockinette and garterstitch

      +Claire McManus - I'm not familiar with that pattern...the stitch you see in the sample I knit is ktbl (knit through the back loop) on the right side, and purl on the wrong side.

    • @clairemcmanus3776
      @clairemcmanus3776 8 лет назад

      it looks really nice, think I might have to make something just to use it. I gives a contrast to regular knit.
      So you just purl all the wrong side as usual then?

      Molly - I'm glad you found the info you needed, and I hope you understand that producing these videos is expensive. I absolutely stand behind the needles I demonstrate, and introducing folks to new products allows me to continue to produce a new, free video (like this one) every week. Most of my videos are not sponsored, but the ones that are help keep my RUclips channel free and available to knitters who need the help.
