    Got myself a Citizen Promaster BN0151-09L recently and I must say I couldn’t be any happier :)
    I love the craftsmanship that goes into making automatic watches but I just wanted something I wouldn’t have to worry about and something that is accurate 100% of the time. So Citizen’s Eco-Drive movement was the perfect choice for me.

    The Citizen JP-2000 is also an excellent dive watch: depthmeter, dive log, dive time and depth alarm... I use it for its intended purpose as a dive computer backup as much as in everyday life, and so far it has been the most useful watch I have ever owned.

  • @jwags24
    @jwags24 6 лет назад +76

    Great list, but I have to disagree with the SKX. I feel the watch community has put this watch on a pedestal that allows Seiko to get away with rampant quality control issues. Customers pay for an outdated movement and misaligned bezels/chapter rings all in the name of legacy. Seiko is disrespecting their own horology by continuing to push out sub par products instead of fixing their production problems. Wonderful video though!

    • @itsallrobbish
      @itsallrobbish 6 лет назад +5

      Jared Wagner The build is still great, misalignment is an issue......it can be got for £115.......that’s unreal value for a watch that will genuinely last a lifetime, regardless of a lack of sapphire, hacking and hand winding.

    • @Ferien7
      @Ferien7 6 лет назад +2

      robert bishop Actually, I've read a lot of reviews saying that the Skx007 broke after a few years. Also, many of them have been tampered with then sold as "new" by gray market dealers. Read reviews and beware. It seems that buying the seiko turtle from an AD is a much better option than the skx007/009 these days.

    • @OutdoorsIQ
      @OutdoorsIQ 5 лет назад +4

      I agree with you here, I normally buy higher end pieces but bought a Seiko based on the hype. I found the movement to feel clunky and the misaligned bezel drove me crazy. I assumed this is what you get for such a low price until recently, when I picked up a Citizen. It IS possible to get perfectly aligned bezels in a lower price point.

    • @robsinHL
      @robsinHL 5 лет назад +4

      FWIW, the misalignment issue doesn't occur with the Japanese version. The K versions.. Yes it does.

    Glad to see a compressor make the list. Too often overlooked and under appreciated imo. If you ever get the chance, check out the Seiko 5 compressor style SRPB27, SRPB29 or SRPB32 as great entry level alternatives to the more regular Seiko 5 divers (although not "pro" divers of course).

    Thanks for another enlightening list TGV. I recently received an Orient Triton as a gift from my wife. I already have two of the divers on this list, an awesome SKX007J and a lust worthy Orient Ray Raven. While I love them both, this new addition is impossible to ignore. The Triton, from its luxurious weight, to its smooth as silk movement, super useful power reserve and (on mine), incredible blue dial and bezel, this watch would be a buy for me at twice its selling point. It will, undoubtedly, rate very highly, if not number 1, on my list of top divers in this price range moving forward.

  • @liamvisser01

    I have recently bought a Citizen Promaster Eco Drive... Love these eco drives. The real big difference with the automatic from the nineties one is the crown at the 4 o' clock position and the date only function (which is perfectly fine for me). Really enjoy the watch. Probably will put it on a NATO pretty soon... Just love NATO straps.
    Seiko SKX is still one of my favorite divers though... Tough to decide between them...
    Love the quality of your vids. Keep up the good work please!

    It was a real surprise that the skx is your number one. Looking back now it really does stand out. I have had NUMEROUS skx's over my many years in horology. But I still have to this day a skx in my collection. It sits proudly, next to Rolex, Patek, czapek - It's a contender, it rolls with the punches. And that 7s26 movement could out last me! Brilliant vid! A few surprises that made me say, what? ...really! And that's a good thing. Kudos, good sir!

    I own 2 on the list and have owned a total of 4. I have had extensive experience with other brands both less and more expensive. I DO NOT DIVE! I own dive watches for their style, but more importantly; their toughness. I love to have a beautiful watch on my wrist that is also tough as nails. For me the Victorinox Swiss Army I.N.OX.Professional Diver is the best diver on earth. I am not a movement snob so the Ronda 715 Quartz is incredible. Very shock resistant and only needs a new battery every 5 years. Nice to only have to crack open your dive watch every 60 months. I have respect for the SKX, Marathon, Orient and any G-Shock. The SKX has the lume to beat at any price. I still love the I.N.O.X. best. As for off of this list - TGV and everyone else should check out the Phoibos Eagle Ray. This is a completely unique style diver from the best microbrand on the market. The Eagle Ray is much more beautiful than any diver on this list. Google some reviews, you will fall in love. Another Phoibos that is comparable in quality and durability is the handsome Phoibos Ocean Master 1000M Automatic. The Ocean Master is nearly as over-engineered as the I.N.O.X.! Tested and certified to survive depths of more than 1000M (even though divers have never come close to that depth), the Ocean Master runs an NH35 Seiko movement which you heard TGV give his seal of approval. I invite you to check out the Phoibos Eagle Ray... It is quite stunning and very high quality for less than $500.00.

    TGV, I've been keeping up with your vids for a few months now. We agree on so many levels about watches. I recommend your channel to my sons, who are young men now, to learn of the finer points of the watch.
    That said, I want to suggest for your consideration the GPW diver, made by Arctos, called the "Mission".
    It sells for $300 on Amazon, 42mm Titanium case, 200WR, Sapphire, NH35, screw down crown, great lume. I can't believe you haven't reviewed this Beauty. Great German tool watch reads easily, and wears comfy on my small wrist. I use it on and off duty. Titanium makes is a 'strap monster', as you say. You could grab one with Prime, review it and return....but like the Orient Star, you'll end up keeping it! Semper Fidelis

    My first real watch was the Invicta Pro-Diver Model 15142. Got it as a gift three or four years ago when I knew absolutely nothing about watches. About a month ago, I found your channel and dove into watches much more than I ever thought I would. Excellent discussion. If I were doing a list like this, I'd be sure to mention the various Citizen Eco-Drive divers. I have two of them...the Eco-Zilla and the ScubaFin in green. Eco-Drives make ideal dive watches [I am an actual scuba diver] because the case never has to be opened for maintenance or battery changes, as do automatic and ordinary quartz divers, and they are accurate and robust to boot. As well, they run the range of styles, from very basic to high tech, and are nearly all quite affordable. So say I.

    Question : Is is really worth spending 2000euros on different Seiko, Citizen, Glycine, than spending 2000euros on a truly quality diver like a seamaster or save up more to buy a tudor, or rolex or whatever, is buying affordable watch becoming a bit of a waste of money ?

    • @Ferien7

      @AldermanFredCDavis 6 лет назад +4

      You propose an interesting debate: Own 1 or 2 luxury pieces with a heritage OR own a dozen mid-level watches. For me, I have gone the latter route. I like
      having a variety of watches, if one were to be damaged or stolen, it wouldn't
      bother me (as much as damaging a Tudor), and for whatever reason, I have
      always babied anything nice that I've had (cars, watches, cameras, etc). It's
      illogical, however, humans are known for being illogical. For me, I would baby a
      Tudor, Grand Seiko, or Sinn to the point where I wouldn't/couldn't get the full
      experience (joy) of owning one.

    I own three dive watches: Glycine Combat Sub, Seiko Turtle (779J1), and a Phoibos PY007C. The Glycine was the most expensive of the three at $375 but I love the quality of the watch and bracelet, and at that price still an excellent value. TGV isn't kidding when he says it is slim, it wears SO well on the wrist. I own other Glycine, including an Combat 6 Vintage, Airman SST12, and a vintage Airman from the 60's and love the brand. The Seiko and Phoibos were both ~$200 new when I bought them, and at those prices are both incredible for the money as well. I was able to get the Japanese made Turtle, and although I don't believe it is vastly different I do like the slight change in dial. While a pretty large watch, it is such a great looking one and looks good on all sorts of straps. Most often mine is on an Uncle Seiko Tropic or BluShark Nato. The Phoibos is really the wild card for me, and I really didn't think I would even keep it. While not a very well known or historic brand, the spec list for the money is very appealing. You get a 40mm Miyota 9015 powered sub homage with sapphire glass and a ceramic bezel. For me it was to scratch the itch of a real Rolex Sub until I get to a point in life to afford one, and it works perfectly for that. While these homage submariner are a dime a dozen, this one should really be given a second look. Talk about a strap monster, can't go wrong with plain stainless with a black dial and bezel for versatility and it looks great on their bracelet too.

During the work week I can only wear a watch for a few hours a day unfortunately, so I have to wind up my watches every night to keep them going. SKX would be constantly dying on me. Love the Samurai and the Combat Sub, nearly bought both of them in the last couple weeks but decided to go with the Steinhart Ocean 500 GMT. Just arrived today and good lord this thing is beautiful. I know that 'watch' people scoff at quartz movements, however, I recently purchased the Victorinox Anti-Magnetic Pro Diver, and it has very quickly become my favorite watch (out of a dozen). I love large, heavy watches. If they make an automatic (in exactly the same style), I would buy another in a heartbeat. Love the look, size, weight and sense of robustness.
    The only two things I wish Victorinox would do with the INOX, and these are cosmetic: 1) I would prefer a coin edge bezel, instead of the scalloped bezel, and I would like a cyclops over the date.

      Christopher Wood -MDH- no doubt about it, but then the SKX can be had for £115. For me, the looks of the SKX is what does it for me. Go higher and you get hacking and hand winding in a turtle case, which I do not like. Seiko could surely knock out a hacking/ hand winding/ sapphire/ perfectly aligned SKX alike for $500 Watch, no problem. Orient is great, but the logo is way overdone, horrible! Cheers.
