I had my eye on this as a potential first underwater camera, but after seeing your review, I'm going to hold off and see if they resolve the issue with their waterproof case. Very much looking forward to their response on this situation!
Thanks for the good video! I also experienced exactly same as yours :( I love the osmo pocket but the housing MUST be updated. The problem of this housing is that the locking system is not the on/off system like gopro. It makes users doubt about sealing and try to tighten to make sure and tragedies happen like yours (and mine too)
Yeah we were very disappointed too. I enjoy DJI products. They have always been excellent quality and so this housing design was surprising. Thanks for your comments.
Hi, Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, the same thing happened to me, too, twice. First time it happened at 16m depth, I checked the ring and it was loose, the camera was soaked and I had to contact customer service. Luckily they gave me a free replacement and new housing for free, even though I was out of warranty. The second time it happened I was freediving, at only 10m depth and the ring was loose again. This time I was under warranty (within a year they gave me the replacement)- so I got lucky with the replacements without paying anything. I would say try contacting customer service again, the housing definitely was a false advertisement, and the ring will not hold water pressure under 10m.
Great stuff. I use Pocket 2 to record music, bands...first time i've seen it used underwater sea life, and it's great. big thumbs up. Marty of Marty Sender You Tube
I fly DJI drones - their products are good but have found customer service somewhat lacking. I use GoPro which has excellent image stabilization but am intrigued by the color reproduction of the images and video you shot - it looks very good. I wonder if a second O-ring would eliminate the problem?
As I’ve stated to others. I’ve owned multiple DJI products and have always enjoyed them. Good quality and excellent cameras. So we were very disappointed in the underwater housing. So far DJI customer service has not been very responsive.
Underwater housings are generally difficult. One hair or grain of sand in the wrong place can cause flooding, especially under pressure. Also, it seems like the design is defective with the ring coming loose, as listed in several comments below. An O-ring is generally made of silicone, and often people use a *small* layer of silicone grease to help the seal. Everything must be cleaned, lubricated, and tested in clean water before each trip to the open water. Unfortunately, there is seldom a guarantee. Some users were lucky to get a replacement. Good luck.
Actually my DJI Osmo Action camera has been awesome diving camera. In comparisons with GoPro, DJI color correction is far superior. Thanks for your comments and thanks for watching!
hello, a piece of advice, I do diving and can the problems regarding the glass flat be solved with the anti-fog sheet? and is the underwater case resistant to water pressure? in the sense that if I go down to a depth of 20, 30, 40 meters, no water enters to ruin the camera? Thank you
Any response in the last 4 weeks? Am about to buy the original Pocket and housing. Mahalo, -Scotty on Maui. -Ps. What mode are you in, so you can turn and look up and down? Follow? -And, Autofocus that works underwater reasonably well... AND Stability... Wow!! (regular Pocket is like 199 bucks, now)
DJI has asked us to send in the Pocket 2 camera that is now dead and the hosing and they will determine if there was any defects on the housing. Haven’t heard back from them yet. When you put it in the housing you will set it into the “underwater housing” mode and that limits the movement of the camera somewhat. But it’s starting very stable! And we were really impressed with the color!
I went scuba diving with the DJ pocket 2 (with waterproof case) and the same thing happened to me!!! I didn’t even go that deep, about 50 ft for 30mins or so. Did DJI ever get back to you regarding the case or the pocket 2?
+Kei Tse did it kill your camera? Interesting that this happens to you too. We sent in the case and camera to DJI but have not heard back from them yet. Will let you know if we do.
@@katerosine I mailed the pocket 2 and waterproof case to them to do some testings. They are sending me a new pocket 2 and waterproof case for free because they are still under warranty!!
Scott, once you set the Osmo Pocket into Underwater mode it uses auto white balance. I don’t believe you can do Manila white balance. And yes we believe the design of the U/W vase is flawed. Having a single prong in the position it is in allows water pressure to loosen the ring.
Great video! I have already ordered the UW case and most probably I'm going to get the same model you have. Well, I hope it's not gonna happen to my pocket 2 as I really love this camera and it's already out of warranty. I hope you don't mind posting another vid once you get a replacement from dji. Thanks bro! Subscribed.
James I’d be careful. Have not heard back yet from DJI but I’ve had several other viewers tell me they had the same experience as me and it killed their camera.
Ok so the housing is very easy to fix. like just buy an additional O ring. very simple. also lubricate and test first on a tub if water is going in or not. AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY. one of the best cameras out there. perfect Stabilization.
About to buy the pocket 2 with casing but I think i would rather buy a cheap $50 cámara for diving. I have seen sooooooo many bad reviews with water getting inside the casing with 3rd party and original dji pocket casings.
Rather sad to see that the original DJI housing is just as bad as the knock-off version. We bought a knock-oof one not for diving but to use as a weatheroroof cover and for use on board a boat to combat spray. I don't think I would ever trust one of these housings to go underwater for more than a few feet. DJI states a depth of 60 metres which for a design like that is pure fantasy. Hopefully they did the right thing and replaced your camera.
bruh 60 meters even for GO pro casing is a stretch lol. the deeper you go under the more pressure it takes and causes the entire thing to have a leak somehow since you can't regulate the pressure inside of the casing.
They’ve asked us to send in the camera and underwater housing. They stated if they determine the case was faulty they’d replace the camera. Still no explanation on why this may have happened tho.
They should give you a replacement camera and refund you the cost of the housing as the housing doesn’t do what it said it can do (aka false advertising). It looks like it’s made of cheap plastic with a single O ring over a “threaded cover”… and that’s rated to 60 meters? …
I use silicone o ring grease just to be sure to prevent leakage at depths as extra safety and if you want to place in a small condom (it works lo you may laugh lol )

Based on our findings I wouldn’t rush out and buy one! LOL

I don't know if I'm compromising the waterproof rating, but I used PTFE tape on the threads because I was worried about the o-ring placement too.

what is the follow up on this? im curious.
can u do a review of the alternative waterproof casing thats cheaper ?

Is the case backward compatible with the Pocket (Pocket 1 )
Did you get any updates from dji?

So is it the depth you are going to that is causing the breach?
Does the case give a glare out of water. Like if I am on the dive boat, and dolphin's start jumping, will I get a big sun glare form the case
