- A critical review of Fimi's latest drone release, the Fimi X8 Pro, evaluating its current strengths and weaknesses.
The Fimi X8 Pro is an outstanding drone to fly with an excellent appware package, but is let down by a number of issues.
Poor quality of standard image profiles eg: imagery is overexposed, with poor contrast, shadows & highlights.
Fimi has not set up standard image profiles to be user friendly straight off the camera.
It appears no raw images are available at the moment.
It may be hidden somewhere in the photo menu & I'll need to search more.
Additionally the Fimi Navi 3 app is full of bugs.
Some intelliegent flight modes are not working and the app locks up when trying to use some of the intelligent flight modes.
Hopefully Fimi will resolve these issues soon.

Hello! Few weeks ago arrived the firmware update. Did the update improve the poor image quality? In principle, it should be better than the x8 2022 version

What would be intersting for me is does it have RAW/DNG Photography for taking photos?
And in the automatic modes, maybe you have tested it out, when its following you, and the object awereness detects something, can it just continue and fly aroud it and keep following you or the ovject you marked?
That would be really interesting!

Fimi just needs to fix the light/colour standard profiles & the appware bugs.
Nice review Ross, you really went over everything on the drone and app. It seems to fly very well, and is very full featured. But it need an App update and a firmware update to sort those bugs out. And the camera software needs a lot of work. It's hard to call your drone a "Pro' model, and you don't even off RAW photos. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
Unless I was looking in the wrong place, I couldn't find raw images.
Yes the standard image profiles by Fimi are poor at the moment & need some work by Fimi.

I have a 2020 X8 and was looking at either a mini 3 Pro or the X8 Pro but I am chasing someone's opinion who has played with the X8 Pro.
My previous drones were all Mavic and I was certainly impressed with the ease and customisation of their flight software as opposed to the very basic X8 app.
I guess I'm wondering if the upgrade over the X8 is warranted with the XA Pro or do I keep the X8 and go with the Mini 3 Pro
Until Fimi fix the camera white balance in auto settings, I would go with your second option
Fimi has all those new features, and the camera quality appears to be the same as the 2020 version.
Fimi's current image profiles are poor on the X8 Pro's camera
Still dose not look like they have fixed the horizon tilt as I notice in your video
In the earlier X8 SE drones raw (DNG) is only available when you select the 12MP image size

I couldn't find raw in any of the photo setting profiles on the X8 Pro.
@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 Interesting. They advertise it for the X8 Mini and the Mini V2 but it's not in the V2 and it disappeared from the original Mini after a Firmware update.
Quick question, was wondering what the versions of the phone, phone os, and Fimi Nav 3.0 app were you using for the review. Thank you.
App was the current (first) version of Navi 3 at time of review. Navi 3 has since received an appware update. Android 14 on mobile device.
@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 Ok. Reason I’m asking is because the latest iOS app update is 1.0.5 released about the same time as the review. Trying to determine if they fixed some of the issues in your review yet.

Both FIMI and Hubsan produce top quality drones that can easily compete with DJI - both companies however fall to pieces when it comes to customer support, product quality control, and big fixing both firmware and app
This is very true, I fly a zino2+ and an xe8 2022v2, both so good I have never felt need to upgrade
The Fimi Navi 3 app is new and was released for the X8 Pro. It certainly has bugs needing Fimi's quick resolve. The current colour/light standard image profiles are poor & also need to be resolved by Fimi.
So True. I have a Zino 2+. It was great until I upgraded the firmware. Now half the time it won't connect to the controller. Flys great when it does work.
Hi, Thanks for nice video.I want ask some questions.Did u try 4G Cellular and Can fly and control with 4G celllular connection? Can we use 4G Cellular with just simcard insert to Drone or need 4G dongle? need any membership or monthly fee to Fimi company...Thamks a lot

I was disappointed in the image quality, I think the quality of the X8 2022 V2 is better
What perplexs me, is that you did a full review, but at no point in the 30 minute video showed straight out of camera video. All recorded through the monitor 😅
At 23.30 there is footage directly off the drone camera, but I will do a separate video on the standard image profiles, so you can see for yourself how poor they are.

@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 On the X8 2022, you generally have to set EV to -0.7 or even -1.0, otherwise the video is over-exposed.

Can anyone tell me if the X8SE 2022 battery fits the X8 Pro?
The X8SE 2022 battery is much easier to find.
You cannot use battery 2022 version to X8 pro because different voltage X8 2022 using 3s batery and X8 pro using 4s lipo battery

How is the video and image quality compared to various DJI drones (mini 4pro mini 3 pro)? Would you give the x8 pro a purchase recommendation?
Unbelievable to fly, camera is average compared to DJI or Autel drones

I live near the beaches in California.. looking for a 3d axis drone that can handle winds that I can use to record video of whales dolphins in the ocean. Also to record myself hiking and driving on off-road trails. The reported 47 flight time with upgraded battery is also attractive
The price of this drone makes appealing. Would you recommend this drone or are there other drones I should consider
It's overexpose maybe vecause your EV values is at +3 and not 0
It's not me doing EV +3.
My point in video is auto settings are overexposed & EV needed to be adjusted.
How does 4G work in the FIMI X8 Pro?
Firstly your country must provide regulatory approval to use on the drone.
Secondly it is an attachment that fits to the drone.
What's the FPS feed on the controller ?

@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 for example the image that's being transmitted from the drone to the controller is it HD like 720 or is it 1080p and at what frames per second is being transmitted to the controller for example the drone is recording 4K at 30 FPS but what is being transmitted back to the controller thanks

Yes, you are right. Appware bugs & the standard image profiles are poor which need some work to make them more palatable for general use (without having to post edit).
They have some bugs to work out.
They certainly do
Whilst the drone itself is a great flyer, FIMI are famous for releasing apps filled with bugs ....they do eventually fix them. This is where the likes of DJI excel, they invest a lot in their software development.

I agree DJI has always had excellent appware/firmware and they have enormous resources to support it.

Companies like DJI excel a bit too much with software in my own opinion. They get a bit too intrusive with the Can and can't do's with the drone. As I see it, I'm the pilot and don't want to be restricted by the software if you get what I mean. =)
@@jesses1589 Unfortunately, intrusive control over our drones will become a global issue with all manufacturers. Internationally, restrictions like geofencing, and regulations like remote id, will even extend to the sub 250g market. It certainly won't encourage hobbyists

Had nothing but a complete nightmare with the X8 pro. Had to wait the 3 months delay in them shipping it, and got a broken drone when it finally turned up. Now they wont pay the return costs! So ordered 5 months ago and all I have is a broken drone to show for it, £500 out of pocket and they want more cash for me to fix it. Fimi support wont budge or show any compassion.
I was a happy Fimi customer up until now and have had their drones previously. I will NEVER buy another one after this. They are a joke.
I find it hard to deal with a company that do NOTHING to right wrongs so people out there should really be careful.
