As a retired commercial photographer, a haze filter or polarizing filter which needs to be rotated for best results every time you change direction of the drone will help! Your EV settings only darken the shadows to no detail. HDR might help. I'm interested in the Pro model as I have the original X8 SE 2020 drone and only recently purchased a filter set which I've not used yet. Histograms can tell you a lot about shadow and highlight details.

It's too bad that Fimi can't get their cameras right. Good review Ross!

Yes it is disappointing to say the least.

Glad you got it sorted out in manual settings so you could capture some decent shots. But Fimi still needs to do better before they release these drone. Great video, and thanks for sharing Ross.

Thank you for taking the time to do a rework, fimi definetely has to do a lot!
Since this video is already 4 month old, have they improved anything/ is there a raw/dng now?
    Thank you!

Only if you know how to adjust camera settings to fix the poor standard profiles.

You don't seem to realise that you can adjust EV with the right scroll wheel, rather than going into the settings. The 2022 generally needs EV to be set to -0.7 or -1.0. It is a shame Fimi can't sort this out, but you can easily use the scroll wheel on the fly to compensate fopr lighting changes, say when turning into and out of the sun. If you are doing any post production, it's generally best to shoot slightly under-exposed so as not to lose detail.

Thanks for the heads up, I've added your advice about the scroll wheel to my video preamble/notations

@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 But the $64M question remains - is recorded video variable frame rate, as for all Fimi drones from the 2020 version on, when they went away from Ambarella video processors to HiSilicon? You can check video properties with MediInfo or similar utilities. The HiSilicon Fimi drones can't record CBR video, and to avoid stuttering in any edited video, you have to pass the raw video thru a correction utility - which is admittedly a straightforward procedure, but it's an additional resource and time consuming step in the editing process. In the X8 2022, the cloudy and sunny presets are so off colour-wise they're completely unusable, and Fimi don't seem to think they're worth sorting out. Auto white balance does a decent job, but you will see colour temperature changes as you pass over varying terrain. Oddly, the fluorescent preset is not too bad, tho it's still a bit off, but better than auto to my mind.

Anyway this drones camera brings in so much light that it absolutely needs filters to be usable..
Just brings in too much light and needs to be tamed..
I mean it actually looks good but just the light factor...
The previous model didn't suffer as much.....

Have there been any updates to correct this blown out camera issue? It seems like the white balance is set way too high as well. It looks like this drone flies pretty well and is robust enough to handle the wind but the camera is disappointing in this video and the other one you did before this one. I'm so sick of DJI's locking down and geo-fencing that I want to stay away from buying any of their drones again if I can. They make a decent camera drone but their way of controlling them after the sale makes them just a so-so drone that can't be depended on to be reliable. The video and photo quality of this X8p isn't acceptable either though.

No firmware update received so far to improve standard camera settings, although manual adjustment to white balance is a temporary fix.
Autel Robotics Lite+ drone has an excellent camera with no geofencing

In very bright light try neutral density filtering to get better shutter speed and EV control. ND filter pack. I use a polariser with a little bit of celotape so it can not fall off.

I think some firmware updates over the coming months will make the image quality better, I had to sell my se 2020 and buy the mini v2 to get to 250g, it wasnt really a downgrade from the 2020 except its not as stable in higher winds, but I would love one of these
