RIP Charles Grodin. You were one of the greats. Midnight Run is one of the best-acted comedies of all time...the "new watch" scene gets me in the feels every time.
The ultimate, "Noodge." He never gave it away with a wink or explanation. The joke was never on Grodin - it was always on us.

One of the best comic actors. Watch the original “ Heartbreak Kid”, He is absolutely hilarious. R.I.P. Charles Grodin.
Actually one of my favorite movies.
no shit
R.I.P Mr. Grodin 🙏🙏🙏 I loved his role in Midnight Run with Robert DeNiro!! His fantastic work in countless films will enable him to live on forever.
The Chemistry between him And Robert de niro was Fantastic
@@jamesmorant1406 Amen brother!
@@jamesmorant1406 Absolutely; it was refreshing to see DeNiro not shooting someone, kicking them to death, or killing them with a baseball bat. He seemed so relaxed., even when things were going back.
@@lincolnmaceachern2410 yes and that was his 1st action Comedy
is he gone???
Charles was always one of my favourite comedic actors. His dry and near monotone delivery is priceless at times.
💐 RIP Charles

Charles Grodin is one of the best guests on late night TV because he has a character that he plays on TV at late night. And he and Johnny Carson were very good friends and played poker together so they're banter was just to play for the audience
Charles always has cryptic psychological undertones in a comedic way when he interviews or is interviewed. Fun and interesting to watch.
Do you remember his show?! It was a treasure! Sardonic. Subversive. Great stuff.
Sardonic, sarcastic, septic, cynical and occasionally salacious. Yep, great stuff.
So well said. I am sad tonight. Rest in Peace, Mr. Grodin.
I remember watching when he was on and thinking, what a jerk...my dad, on the other hand, was laughing his butt off. Took me a few more years to catch up. Great guest
Charles Grodin was a very dry,caustic,witty man ! I adore him !
One of my greatest pleasures is watching Midnight Run whenever it comes on TV, because Charles Grodin is brilliant in it. He is a hilarious human being!!
The chemistry between Dinero and Grodin was great.
.....sayingif I WERE youraccountant.
Great movie.........why arent u popular w the chicago police department?!
Jonathan (The Duke) Mardukas:
"You get it started, and I'll run you over. That's the best plan I can think of."
I was literally just watching all these interviews by him last week and thinking how great it was he was still with us.. Very funny man. R.I.P Sir.
He was the best.
These are a real treat. The evolution of Grodin's 'character' is fun to follow. Cheers!
Agreed! These were the interviews I remember best. Dave just lobbing them up
I see so much of him in Norm Macdonald
@@sean-jw6lr did Bill Burr bring you here?
@@steviemac2681 no, I saw Norm Macdonald talk about him. Big fan on Bill Burr though
@@sean-jw6lr oh I heard about this in a video of Bill Burr talking about Norm MacDonald lol.
Grew up with this show. Every episode takes me back to the 80's and my childhood! Thanks!
Letterman was at his best when it was Late Night on after Carsson in the 80s i think
Same here I agree 👍 💯
The Heartbreak Kid is one of the funniest (darkly funny) movies ever made and Grodin was magic in that. He’s hilarious in all these old Carson and Letterman appearances too. Loved him!
He’s killing me with the Larry Bud jokes. RIP Charles Grodin.
RIP Charles, you were one of a kind 💔
Charles Grodin was hilarious to watch on Johnny Carson. He was also perfect in Midnight Run (1988)
We will miss you Charles. I always thought he had such a warm smile.
💐 RIP Charles.
Loved him in Seems Like Old Times
Any movie with Charles Grodin in it is always worth watching for his part alone.
Grodin's appearances on Letterman were must-see TV. He was so interesting.
Moreso his appearances with Carson
RIP! I loved your deadpan humor.
One of my top three favorite guests.
This morning I got in my car thinking about Charles Grodin on Carson. I get to work and this Charles Grodin clip is recommended on RUclips. We are living in a simulation.
RIP to a good man!! I loved how he always looked angry but that was just how he was. Through his angry look, he managed to bring to life characters that we could all admire.
Gene Wilder and Charles Grodin are my favorite comedic actors. RIP Charles.
Rest in Peace Charles, thank you for the Midnight Run
Planes trains and automobiles was such an entertaining flick. Chuck is a very talented individual.
So sad to hear of his passing. RIP charles
“Have they ever asked you to host the Academy Awards?” Well that was prescient! Lol
This guy and Norm Macdonald would have been an amazing pair
Rest in Peace Charles. Great ans funny actor. God bless you Sir.
Love to spend a day watching this man interacting with people !!!
I love how Letterman always helps him find his chair. 😆
"Show business is like 'dog eat dog' except it's 'dog doesn't return other dog's phone call' " - Woody Allen
Dave once said that show business was like being in high school with money.
Great entertainer. Insightful commentator! Rip CG
Charles Grodin is just plain HILARIOUS!
RIP
Charles Grodin
(1935-2021)
I like how he has an "I don't give a shit" attitude. RIP
He is such a depressive person. I enjoyed watching him as an actor growing up. Fun to watch him get angry when acting in a movie. He plays those roles perfectly. The movie was called clifford with Martin short. Such a funny movie.
Clifford was hilarious, Martin Short was so manic to Grodins anger
Charles looks pretty good for 50 yrs old here. Hard to believe he's 12 years older than Dave. Born in 1935, he was always a lot older than I thought.
He was 56 when he made "Beethoven", but he only looked about 40 in that film.
He had a cameo in De Niro's recent "The Comedian" and age has really caught up with him. Probably has to do with being relatively inactive the last decade.
@@steveconn He wore a thick brown wig for most of his career, but dropped it around 2000. Without it he suddenly aged 20 years over night.
R.I.P. Charles Grodin.
The most hilarious and dependable, for a laugh, Cat ever! miss him
Charles Grodin was a unique persona that embodied an outlook that wasn’t concerned with promotion or topical references in other words money. I miss those days and people like him. He was so great in Heaven Can Wait the Warren Beatty version with Dyan Cannon and Julie Christie. Ironic and cynical, but only for humors sake. An original in a time when originality was allowed to flourish.
I got that Impression of him too
Dyan Cannon! Vavooooom!!
Charles Grodin has sadly passed away he was good in Beethoven and Beethoven 2nd.
He’ll be sadly missed RIP
Loved him clifford.
@@MsDisneylandloverthat scene in the kitchen is brilliant
Love it when Paul plays Cream music after a guest and going to a commercial. Ties off good interviews well.
Midnight Run! I need to see that again! R.I.P Charles Grodin
mid night run! the best
Grodin is the guy who also played Uncle Martin in Clifford (1994) with Martin Short.
May that man rest in heaven
Thank you , Don Giller, for your Smithsonian-like collection of "Dave".
Similar to reminiscing in 1980 about, " that day I was on the beach of Iwo Jima ".
“Once the game exists” CG
Did Grodin ever appear in a suspense horror film? He would have been perfect
He was in rosemary’s baby
@@gfriedman99 GOD BLESS DOCTOR HILL.
Gotta love Dave's outburst of laughter when Charles asks him if the Academy has ever asked him to host the Academy Awards. Or when Charles said he guessed that's why all those people were lined up outside to see Dave's show and Dave was like "Well they're not here to sit in on Live at 5:00 .... or the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. They don't have a studio audience up there". LMAO
R.I.P. Charles Grodin.
Charles Grodin was always terrific! Today, he would be canceled. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
Just got the news that he passed away…
Charles has such wonderful dry humour
RIP Charles
11:12 Only speaking for myself, but I'm ready to give up wearing a mask for the rest of my life.

Charles Grodin on The David Letterman Show
R.I.P
way ahead of his time......Norm Macdonald and this guy are the best
That was very nice....
One of Dave's best guests
I still think Clifford was a grossly underrated film.
Rest in Peace...
Dave wasn't as quick as johnny and I don't think the crowd was as ready to laugh as in the Johnny Carson and Grodin dry bit banter.
But this was still pretty good. 😊
RIP 💜

@@SUGAR_XYLER I had to look this up --How SAD ! Thanks !
RIP charles
I really like these Grodin appearances. His bit makes them more entertaining than the average interview. Are there more? If so, please post them as well!
In time. I've been lately getting swamped with requests.
The late Charles Grodin RIP
@@lanceaugust nice try
Love this guy
Heartbreak kid was great movie
Is one fav actor too.
"it's up to you"
If you read Charles Grodin's book entitled "It Would Be So Nice If You Weren't Here," getting the film "Movers and Shakers" made was a multi-year long struggle and it did not end up doing well financially or critically. This appearance of a downbeat Charles Grodin seems more real or genuine in this light.
I wonder if he ever got that nomination.
Hoh,hoh ,hoh, " have people asked you to host the Academy Awards " Dave ?

I was just watching Bill Burr talk about Norm McDonald and this was mentioned. So, I left to watch this😀

The Dad from Beethoven (1992) sure enough, as I identity himself!
Almost a straight interview with personal introspection - almost!
He's classic in "The Lonely Guy" with Steve Martin.
Very nice.
I would just like to go back to 1985...
Rip to a funny man...
❤️
When Grodin did Carson, Carson was trying to create too much of a battle of wits. When Dave introduced Grodin, note how gracious and complementary he was, Grodin wasn't going to react like with Carson.
hey @don giller who is your favourite guest of all time on letterman? very curious
We lost one funny man in Charles Grodin....... RIP Mr Grodin
R.I.P. Mr. Grodin. How is this the oldest he ever looked?
Not even close.
Loved in clifford.
Grodin seems a little reminiscent of Benny.
In Midnight Run that fidget DeNiro must have been on stilts because Godin looks about 6’2”
Just heard from tmz about his passing. How did he die?
Bone Marrow Cancer
Charles asks Letterman about hosting the Oscars. Tee hee
He isn't very funny here but his point about there being not enough kindness in the world is quite true. Too much stress in the world, especially in the big cities.
Maybe you should find a video of a duck in a tuxedo.
Seems like he was going through some serious problems at home.
Mentions Gerald Mulligan. Does anyone know if Gerald's father or uncle was a building engineer in the Great Lakes region of the US ?
Rest In Peace!
RIP♥️
I wish he and Albert Brooks had done another movie or two together.
