People can say what they want, might be nostalgia but I still love the CGI in smallville to this day. Not because its visually perfect ot anything but its well thought out and actually helps visualize and understand what is hapeninf in the scene without explanation, including subtle pseudo-phisics issue a certain action could present

Man I love Smallville but let's be honest there was a mistake in this scene, the water tank would never fall at the same speed as Clark and the girl are running, maybe if Clark hit the water tank about 3 or 4 miles away ok, when If they got close, the water would already be at ground level, but a few meters away, there was no chance.

Honestly for 90s and 00s the cgi still holds up today pretty well compared to others simply cuz they didn't try for super realistic and knew how to set up certain visuals to identify the power being used
CGI is excelllent for the time, super cool, but they already had physics back then and it's hard to suspend your disbelief on that, she is like super sonic the tyme it would take for the water to fall down, even I could have ran away from that.

One of my favorite comic book Superman moments back in the 80's was Supergirl got knocked unconscious by Mongol and hurled into space at great speed and out of sight. Superman clobbers Mongol in anger for hurting his cousin, pauses to gaze up after her trail as she is already past his vision limits and they show him instantly calculating the trajectory and speed mentally (with little angles and numbers in his thought bubble. Neat!) then flying off at increasingly greater speed to go catch her. To me, Superman is not a philosophic genius as much as a tactical genius.
Honestly depends entirely on the budget. That's actually pretty good fx if all he could afford was giving it as a weekend project to the office's quadriplegic intern.

This was some of the best CG in any show on TV at the time. All it has to do is convey to the viewer what's going on, and it did its job. If you want ACTUALLY bad CG in a TV show, look at The Flash. Grodd looks awful in that. I have seen seasons of Power Rangers with better CG than that entire show.
The only thing for me here is the laser blasts just look like low res pngs and the part where the water first flows out looks weird. Everything else looks fine
To be fair, the CGI was actually pretty good. Particularly for how it was made back in the day, nothing like the Flash nowadays, but the budget was probably not as robust as the Flash's or Green Arrow's shows!

We had good cgi at that point. People might have been more lenient because it was a TV show but nobody thought it was good.

Look at some of "the Marvels" effects, they had so many reshoots and last minute changes that the effects companies gave what they could in the time given.
Smallville was everything to me growing up. As an adult I introduced it to my kids mom. She loved it so much we named our son Alexander after Lex Luthor
The water thing WAS really smart. Even the flash would have trouble phasing through water like that. Simply because water isn't like a solid, you'd have to continually phase through all the water over and over and over again rather than just one time. And for someone new to their powers, that would NOT be an easy thing to do. Smallville was an AMAZING TV series that I STILL go back and watch to this day.

For a TV Show budget at that time it was pretty much industry standard. Of course you can't compare it to modern 3D animation programs or Game Engines. The fire balls improved over time, especially realistic smoke physics and realistic water simulation is still even by todays standards one of the hardest things to do realistically. For the time the water actually looks great.
