Thanks so much Jeff. Yeah I'm stuck in lockdown again and can't leave home so I thought what the heck. They really all do land a little bit differently but once you get used to high alpha landings it does get a bit easier. It was a bit of a challenge at the start coming from 9 years on warbirds. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for watching. Yeah the FMS F-16 has copped some pretty heavy landings as I worked out the high alpha qualities in the way it lands. It was the perfect jet to learn that with that is for sure.
I've gotta say.. time for me to check out some of your edfs offa grass after seeing that final landing on the cricket field. Time to search through the backlog! Nick
I loved this. I’m at the beginning of learning how to land jets… what are the mental steps you go through when landing a jet… do you cut the throttle to get it to sink, then at a 1/4 throttle back to arrest that sink as she gets into ground effect and hold her off for as long as you can to slow her down?
Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad that you liked the video. I enjoy helping people out too! Yeah with most jets I like to get a long straight approach with a bit of altitude. I like to then get them into a constant sink rate with a high alpha approach and then use the trottle rather than the elevator to control the decent. It does take a bit of practice. In that video the landings at the start are more recent with one's nearer the end my older ones. You can see how I've progressed a bit with particular note to the F-16 which is the best to practice with. Happy landings!
From my experience landing the Freewing Lippisch, which has an outstanding glide slope is to go from base into final with some power but once the wings are level, cut power completely. As she will come in hot because of that glide slope, gently pull back on the elevator until she slows right down and plops down into the grass. For my glider jet that runs an 80mm fan on 6s, she needs half flaps and about 20% throttle, gradually reduce until she reduces altitude and touches down. I don't own a fighter airframe that has landing gear (eg F/A-18, F-16, Mirage etc), but those usually require a landing with power and a touch down on mains gear first (nose up attitude). Focus is always keep airspeed up above stall, keep the wings up and fly the plane in until you're down.
Thanks so much. Have a look at my buzzing the tower video and you'll see them flat out too. Um I like them all but at the moment the 70mm F/A-18 is my favourite. It sounds amazing, is fast and highly aerobatic.
Hi Truth Still Matters. The issue was that I landed without throttle and I got sucked in by the gliding ability of the Mig-17. It pretty much stalled on landing and pancaked onto the runway. If you land with a bit more speed with a little bit of throttle you won't have that issue as much. It'll still do a mini wheelie up the road, but it won't pancake.
Landing practice? Count me in. There;s only one thing better than a perfect rotation and that's a buttery smooth landing. ;)
That is so true. It gives you an idea of the different landing characteristics of each jet. Thanks so much for watching. It is appreciated.
Fun idea comparing all the landings. Nice to see each jet's capabilities, or challenges. Great job!!

Some great landings there, and that F16 has some serious gear on it!

Those are some beautiful greasers right there especially the mirage and t45
The f16 was not cooperating there
Thanks so much. Yeah there is some good ones and some crappy ones that is for sure haha.
Awesome landings man. Super nice
Thanks so much Dom. You are the man!
Nice Landing compilation mate 👊👍
Thanks so much for watching mate. I'm looking forward your next video too!

Haha I only have a few grass landings with edfs under my belt but some of thd 80mm like thr Mig-21 would be fine. Thsnks for watching and commenting.

Awesome compilation. Loved the Mirage. Which of these jets have the best mix of sound and handling?

Fms 70mm F/A-18 I meant to say
@@MrMerlinPower Wooo that sounds awesome. Thanks Man:)
Thanks for watching. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions.
What went wrong on the landing of the Avios 90mm MiG-17 Fresco? I do that often.
