The truth about Aunt Helen is even more messed up in the book, cause he frequently calls her his favorite aunt, has you 100% convinced that she was one of his personal champions, and her death was just another thing he blamed himself for.
And then we find out the truth.
He wasn't just keeping it from everyone else. He was keeping it from himself too.
That’s very common for that type of abuse. I repressed it myself for over ten years. Sometimes the person can’t mentally or emotionally deal with it and the only thing your brain can do repress it and not deal with it.
My favorite English teacher got us to read it loved it more then the movie way more tbh
They also should havein movie all secrets that Charlie keeps. Like his sister´s. They filmed that part but it wasnt in movie.
@@ofkitsune1355 when her bf slaps her? It was in the movie
@@StevieMcKenna10 no,,when she was pregnant and tell charlie and he was the one who drive her to abortion. They also cut from the film the very important poem. All deleted scenes are on YT. :) watch them, they have many scenes about charlie and his sister. :)
“We Accept the Love We Think We Deserve” is such an accurate line
This makes me cry every time. The way he notices everything and takes care of everyone but himself, the abuse, the suicidal ideations. He reminds me so much of myself.
You can’t light yourself on fire to keep everyone else warm, Joe. I hope you give yourself the love you DESERVE!!! 💚
Me too. I love writing and tend to care more for others than myself.
Take care of yourself:)
@@itsjustmaddisen x2
same... i hope you're doing okay
Never fails to get me crying. Just the way Charlie tries to justify what his aunt did, despite knowing in the end she was a capable adult and knew what she was doing, is heartbreaking.
In the end, the lesson of trauma not being your anchor, but rather a means of personal growth, is the one I take away the most from this movie. An absolute masterpiece 💛
“How do you feel, Charlie?”
“I just really want a milkshake.”
Charlie is me 😂
Fun fact, Mary-Elizabeth is played by Mae Whitman who voices Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender and Amity from The Owl House.
And Rose in Jake Long: American Dragon and April O'Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012)
"Her?"
This is incredible!!! "Waterbend, hi-yah!!!" 😅
Don’t forget tinker bell lmao
also as one of the evil exes in Scott Pilgrim
Charlie repressed the memory of his aunt abusing him.. the fact that it hits him throughout the whole movie, it's heartbreaking. He blames himself; when you can't find someone to blame, and you can't handle the pain, sometimes leads to us mentally burying that memory so we can survive and try to move on.
This movie has the perfect message: Be yourself and no matter what happens your friends are with you through thick and thin, ups and downs, hell or high water.
Hey everyone just wanted to apologize for the last minute of the end discussion being a black screen. It's a long story with copyright, but I did edit the correct end discussion for patreon, so if you want to see the end discussion in full without it being a black screen when Tim is talking, check out the link the in the description!! But hope you enjoyed the reaction to this one, and special thanks to TimotheeReacts for being on the channel again!! See you next for a surprise movie!!
Oh ok now worries Nick! 😉👍
Is the surprise movie Sonic Movie 2
Is it Tom and jerry wizard of oz
Yess nickflix love your collab with timotheereacts❤😁👍to the movie the perks of being a wallflower can't wait for the surprise movie😁👍
Is the surprise movie Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers?
the "her" that patrick is playing is actually frank n furter, originally played by tim curry in the rocky horror picture show movie! it's considered THE classic cult film. in the perks of being a wallflower, the characters are putting on a live interactive showing of rocky horror and these type of showings actually exist in real life and are still continued to this day! it's a whole entire subculture of its own
also, when charlie asked his teacher why nice people choose the wrong people to date, he wasn't just talking about sam but his sister, and in the broad scheme of things this also applies to patrick
Not a lot of people have reacted to this masterpiece and my god this movie was beautifully well done 🥰
“She’s from Degrassi.” She’s also like from vampire diaries 😭😂😂
i knew her from degrassi before the vampire diaries lol
Alright... here we go. It's time to grab our snacks, and a couple of tissues. Man, this movies really good. Thanks for the collab Nick & Tim. As a long time introvert, I can kinda relate to the main character with his struggle to fit in hoping to someday be part of a group of somebody's. Thanks again guys, really appreciate it. ✌
the way you were smiling in the begining almost made me cry 😭 it’s like watching myself watch this film.
This book meant a lot to me growing up, and then somehow the movie was this good. Probably because it was adapted by the author! Also, I've always taken it that he is writing to YOU, the watcher/reader. When you read the book, it's an even more obvious interpretation. haha There is no character within that he is writing to.
This movie made me break down the first time I watched it because something similar happened to me, but it was my older cousin. I have depression and disjointed memory ever since something triggered my repressed memories from what happened when I was eight. All I remember after something triggered my memory was hyperventilating and wanting it to stop. The next thing I remembered was waking up in the hospital (I tried to OD). The disjointed memories done in this is very similar to what I deal with still with my depression. This movie is extremely powerful and I also love literature so I definitely connected with Charlie- Dead Poets Society made me want to be a writer. We all need a Mr. Keating in our life to remind us of what we live for.
I haven’t seen this movie in a while, and I forgot how many good name actors and actresses are secondary characters. I was shocked Nina Dobrev was Charlie’s sister.
Logan Lerman is a gem and I wish we could see more of his work. He is forever my Perch Jackson 💙 I know Ezra Miller right now at this moment when the video dropped is going through a lot and I hope he gets the peace he needs because he did amazing in this.
Remember one thing about this movie. The timeframe was about 1977--78 because after that "Heroes" was a big hit.
I wore a suit every Friday. I know I wasn't even a "Wallflower." I was a "Ghost".
"Touch my friends again and I'll blind you" is probably the most terrifying threat I've ever heard. I'll Kill you is just Hyperbole.
"Doctor my eyes have seen the tears.
Very interested to see how this plays out. I loved The Fault In Our Stars reaction, but this one I can definitely see moments where you are emotional and Tim isn't. This is one of my favorite movies as well, so happy you got to show Tim this one!
31:48 By the way guys, for those who have been keeping up with the Avatar TLA Reactions, THIS actress is the voice of Katarra! ☺👍
@jimmyxwolvie9208 Mae Whitman is that actress of the voice Tinker Bell
This was one of my favorite books. I read it so many times I had to buy a new copy because it was falling apart but also kept the falling apart copy because I cared that it was the copy I read first. The repressed memories coming back was something I dealt with and it really is so well portrayed. Such a raw and honest story.
In the book its stated that the person he's writing to is a random girl who he goes to high school with, just a random girl he knows of and writes to. So thats the 'friend' who he was writing all those letters to. He even tells her he's changed everyones names so she wouldn't be able to figure out who he was or who he's talking about.
Best movie ever made I cry everytime I watch it. Everything Charlie went through I went through
So excited to watch this one!! Glad to see Tim back as well.

The letters are actually to his dead friend, it’s pretty clear in the book! And as you said, the movie did the book justice. The movie accurately adapted the novel into a good way, it’s an absolute comfort movie and novel for me.
Love your reactions because they are real and the emotions you show is refreshing to see
YESSS love both your reactions! This movie is so emotional and pulls at the heart strings so much!😭 a bunch of the scenes in this get me but the one that gets me every time for some reason is when Charlie first opens up about what happened to his best friend to Sam💔it’s such a well made film ❤️
My life and Charlie's share so many similarities. I was never abused but, I suffered from, and actually still suffer from severe depression.. on top of having borderline personality disorder. I don't meet many people or talk to many different people, and I don't make friends really well. I used to engage in self harm. I've tried to kill myself more times than I can remember, and I see things all the time in my mind - things that I can't turn off. But most of all I suffer from hyper empathy, and like Charlie - a lot of what I see and feel and understand is the pain of others, and what we do to each other. This is perhaps the biggest contributor to my loss of interest in life, to not being motivated, to cynicism and hopelessness that anything I do or anyone else does will change to make my existence any - any easier to deal with.
I live by some strict principles, and although they have less to some self imposed limitations I'm terms of being isolated and not having much of a social life - at least I have principles that I live by, which is I'm sure - is more than we can all day for the majority of people who walk the earth now.. My whole life though I was made to feel ashamed for what I think and believe, for how I feel the world should operate, and I was forced into trying to be something I wasn't from a very young age..
My whole life, I have never really wanted anything, especially material objects - except to find my "Sam".. Someone who sees me for me, and isn't put off by it, or think it's stupid, or pathetic, or just a sad story. Not because I want a cure for my dread, since I know that's not possible - but just to have someone there, who understands, who I can be vulnerable with. Someone who sees that look in my eye when I seem like I'm looking at nothing but I'm really looking deep inside myself - and can tell how much pain I'm in, and just wants to be there, not to do anything, but to be that presence, that soul I can gaze into whom can gaze into me, and pull me out of my own darkness back to the present moment.. Someone who empathizes with my touch starvation, or lack of skin to skin contact with another human being.. I've literally gone years without touching another person.. Someone who doesn't think I'm crazy even after I tell them all that goes on inside.
But, I've been made to feel ashamed for so long, been abandoned by those who told me they wanted to take the time to become that person who understands what's going on inside me - that I no longer have the hope, or faith, that it will ever happen. And the only way we can work towards a goal, towards change - is if we can imagine it's success, which is, of course - that which I can no longer do.. I've never wanted someone to fix me - just someone who wants to stand beside me.. to help me endure..
I used to go to Rocky Horror Picture Show showings in high school and college lol. So much fun and it's a great movie. Definitely recommend it. 👄
I am a huge fan of this movie, ever since it came out and ever since I read the book, and I've asked myself who the person reading the letters might be. As of now, and because by the time this was the author's (and director's) only book, I think he was writing this to himself. An older version, maybe, that has already learnt how to cope with the trauma of what happened to him--an understanding friend that knows where young Charlie is coming from, and that he has room to grow and become the person he always deserved to be.
Nick I really appreciate your vulnerability as always. This movie genuinely triggered me when I first saw it because I had a similar experience as Charlie unfortunately. It was rough but I have been able to watch it since and really love it. Appreciate you as always!
25:15 My favorite Nick & Tim Moment right here lol
One of the best coming of age movies I have seen!!
the way his sister says “Charlie” on the phone at the end always breaks me
I absolutely love this movie. It's totally in my top five favorite of all time.
God this is such a perfect movie I cry every time I watch it 🤍loved you guys’s reaction
This movie makes me wish Ezra wasn't such a problematic person in real life 😑 (he's been arrested a couple of times for assault, including once trying to strangle a female reporter.)
What a great movie, so amazing!
Great collab reaction. I think the best lesson anyone can take from this film is that no matter what trouble or darkness your facing, you always can have someone to lean on to share the burden. To quote another character, “I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason bringing something we must learn. And we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them, and we help them in return. Well, I don't know if I believe that's true, but I know I'm who I am today because I knew you...” 💚
This movie is so tragic but beautifully portrayed. so many layers to it. i didn't catch some details first time i watched it. especially the plot. and it does a great job at making feel for the characters especially charlie. i am so sorry that u relate to him so much Nick. i genuinely appreciate ur openness and vulnerability.
Having gone through childhood SA and extremely dark times with suicidal ideation, this movie especially the ending deeply resonates with me.
Nick and Tim back again for another amazing collab!!!
I felt like he was writing to his future 55:11. No specific person, but the person who gains and is enriched by his words. So he's writing to whomever has the heart and desire to listen to a random English Student's most inner and personal thoughts.
the letters are supposed to be for us, the expectator
Also, not me sitting here sobbing like a fool. 😭
Omg why did I forget this movie existed !! 😭
I love the editing when he has his breakdown. Did you notice all of the multiple versions of him as he us saying goodbye to Sam?
Enjoyed it!!! Thanks for being real Nick!
Nick, 500 Days Of Summer. If you liked this, you'll like that. Another epic, great soundtrack, charming and quirky in similar ways.
So interesting to see you both together - I like both of your channels for opposite reasons... usually Nick is fully immersed and invested in what a film is trying to say, Tim is more talkative and cracking jokes.
THIS ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY AAAA
My first English professor in college assigned this book to us. I read, I liked it but I didn't grasp the brevity of emotion at that time. After watching your reaction I see now that I couldn't relate to Charlie's experiences, because mine were so different. It's been about 15 years since I first read it. But now I'm inspired to reread it after having similar experiences and see how relatable it will be. Thank you.
This movie reminds me more of my character, imagine being in a huge party and just staring at them completely blank...this is so sad and relatable...
Nick and Tim reactions are amazing
THIS IS MY FAVORITE TEENAGE MOVIE IN MY H.S YEARS
Very well made movie! 🌻
I'm a bipolar & ptsd sufferer. Logan Lerman plays a character in this movie that feels VERY familiar to me. Sometimes too spot on.
*Spoiler:
Regardless of how many times I've watched this, I never fail to cry during his psychotic break scene.
Great movie overall!
I love this movie and your reactions were exactly like mine first time I saw it. I can't relate to the suicide aspect but everything else I've been through to some extent. Love you guys
Love this movie and book so much 💖
In my mind the answer is clear; Charlie is writing to us.
Ooof, I knew this one would be difficult. Thank you for sharing this experience with us. It's always nice to see people who have been through the same thing admitting that it was difficult for them too. Sending love
This made my heart so warm. One of my favorite movies and youtube reactor ♥
I'm so happy right now! I've really wanted to see both of you do this film: tag teaming it is a dream come true 🥰
Its been a minute since I saw this but still gets me every time
My absolute favorite movie sine i was 12. Stephen Chbosky is a true artist with the story he told
Even though the movie was made in 2012, it was set in 1991-1992.
nick getting uncomfy everytime there’s an aunt helen flashback but then tim just being oblivious
beautiful movie
Nick, if you haven't already, please read this book. It's truly life changing, especially if you identify to the movie so much already. I do too. ❤
Just a warning tho, this is a devastating book and honestly really triggering for people who’ve been assaulted
@@hellopeople6138 Well, he's already seen the movie and said he identifies with it, so it sounds like the book will be up his alley.
@@meghanmonroe fair enough, I just wanted anyone reading this to be warned. When I read it I was like 11 and coming to terms with some trauma and it really messed with me but it is a wonderful book.
WHY DID I NEVER NOTICE THAT DONT DREAM ITS OVER IS IN THIS MOVIE TOO???
I heard somewhere that he is writing
to the reader. I don't know if it's true or not but I like the idea.
You and Tim should watch Horton hears a who and home on the range too
This was filmed in my high school during my senior year!
This is MY FAVORITE MOVIEEEEE
he's writing to the reader/viewer
I think his pen pal is his friend Michael's girlfriend. He said upon hearing someone mention them, he thought they sounded amazing.
The book implies it's a guy, I think. Something about how they could've slept with some girl but didn't.
@@elizabethstrong6057 still could be a girl lmao
@@StevieMcKenna10 I did kind think of that after I commented 🤐. Though I read this book 10-15 years ago so that's the automatic assumption I made at the time.
This movie makes me sad (and not a good touched kind of sad) but only at the ending... bcs so much of his journey is so much like my own... but I'm not there, I've never reached that point and this movie reminds me of that
Pleaseeee react Happy Feet 2 ! I love your reacts!! BRAZILLLLL 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
