I picked one of these up off Amazon just a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. I do agree with your criticism of the "loose" push-button top but it's far superior to any multi-pen I've ever used. I had a Fisher 4-in-1 and loved it until the plastic broke and it was useless. I was drawn, nice pun, to this because of my experiences with the knurled black metal Rapid Pro 0.5 mechanical pencil and the knurled chrome Rapid Pro metal pen I have from them... Love them both, especially the retractable metal tip on the mechanical pencil, and this has taken it's place in my pocket field notes leather bifold that I carry pretty much everywhere I go. So far, not complaints except the jiggly push-button. However, apparently, r0tring doesn't make this anymore or anything similar which is sad but c'est la vie.
Do you know if all of the components can be mechanical pencil? I have been using Rotring mechanical pencils for drawing for years and I love them. I use three different lead sizes when I draw and it would be nice if they were all in one.
I just bought this pen. I have tried switching the mechanical pencil part with a pen part and unfortunately they do not fit. Maybe there is some replacement mechanical parts that would fit inside the pen part but I would not be too sure.
I wrapped the hidden part of the cap with a part of a sticky note, and it removed the annoying rattling on a Parker Jotter pencil, it might work with this one too.
I brought mine from Sasebo Japan a year ago. The only thing that I don't like about it is the eraser cap seems like it can come off easily and be easily lost.
I might try the Trio. I hate blue ink, so I'd never use the fourth one. I'd put a fine black and a medium black, to go with the pencil. The Trio is also $15 cheaper. Personally, I think I'll miss the knurling. Since it ships from Japan, I have a strong suspicion that's where it's made.
They take the usual D1 refills, so if you have a favorite color/ink you could use that as your 4th if you wanted. I got some Monteverde D1's to try out. It is strange, but they feel like the write a little different from the parker comparable refills. I think I need to play with them more before I decide for sure about that. I can see missing the knurling if you really like that. The pen is pretty smooth texture-wise.
White Glove Reviews, I don't think I have a single pen that uses a D1 refill anymore. It's been a long time. All my pens use oversized tank Parker/Fisher/Cross/Zebra refills. I was wondering if it might shrink the size a tad being a three bay. I really hate fat pens. The F-701 is about as fat as I like. The rest feel like clumsy Sharpies to me.
I think the Quattro is close to the size of a F-701. Might be a tiny bit thicker though. If you are looking for a thin multi pen you should look at the SKILCRAFT B3 Aviator. Very thin, 2 pen/1 pencil. They run $15-20 US.
How come you hate blue ink? It is my preferred color, because when I began my interest into pens and writing I discovered the hisory of pens and how blue was the pigment used for writing in the middle ages and how it stuck nowaday as standard color for pens. I like to use different shades of blue ink in roller ball and fountain pens (I own 3 Lamy vista and the black Safari, and Twsbi eco)
I also like green ink, the Bic cheap 4 in 1 pen comes with a green one, it comes in blue, black, red and green, but I think it's disposable and not refillable.... which to me is a big turn off cause I hate disposable products I wish this Rotring pen came with a green one, but it probably would have to sacrifice the mechanical pencil for that. I would prob put a green refill in it if I owned it. I'm not a ballpoint person though, I don't like the viscous oil based ink, other than gel pens cause they glide very smoothly (Zebra Serasa is my favorite from the ones I have tested so far). I'm more of a water based ink user, in fountain pens, and roller balls (for better practicity on the go)
I tried the Tombow Reporter: ruclips.net/video/XQZUsyB-6WY/видео.html and the Zoom: ruclips.net/video/ESWbXVFvit4/видео.html I haven't tried the Tombow Mono Multi pen. I'll check for it. I like multi pens. :)
Some people are talking about how the paint hips off very easily on some of the reviews on amazon. Can someone verify that for me? Like did any of you have any experiences like that?
Beautiful looking pen but I can't see it being comfortable to write with for any length of time. I have the Rotring 600 3 in 1 and the knurling makes for a much better grip as well as the squared off sides in the palm grip so the pen doesn't slide around in your hand. This pen looks great but like the Lamy Studio I also own, will not be great ergonomically.
open the pen (where the ink is - twisting), open the lead pencil slot and add from there. I thought that was pretty dumb way to insert led pencil as i thought it goes through the top )
White Glove Reviews Actually I haven’t but I probably will based on your review. I find it’s too expensive to just buy it without a visual reference first. It’s not really a brand name I know as well. I did buy the Quattro based on your quick observation and I’ll probably get the Ohto Multi as well based on your observation of quality. Thanks!
Oh plus like you were mentioning about the tail cap I actually lost the tail cap for this pen as somehow during the day when I had clipped to my cargo shorts it came off dont ask me how but it did. One of the benefits of the gasketed screw cap of the B3 aviator.
You sound just like Johnny Depp in "Rango"; not an insult, just an observation. Thanks for the comprehensive review of the pen, I need to find which gravity multi-pen is best.
I've owned one of these but do not like the actuation mechanism. The gravity actuation was annoying to me when trying to use it. Doesnt beat the B3 aviator IMO.
If you're going to evaluate or give an "expert's" opinion (over 9 mins long), please tell us how to pronounce the product name or pretend you know it (ROW tring). The cap covering the eraser is a pain and probably lost forever in less than a month-be cautious if making daily use of the pencil. I received one 25 years ago that had an ink, a .07 pencil and a "hi-lighter" cartridge. I now understand Rotring discontinued this model. Duh? That's like Rolex saying you can't buy parts for their watch. As a novice pen user, saying the "D-1" is a refill is a BIG help. Would have liked to have seen some comparable, expensive multi pens. (I know, I sound like a dip. Thanks for the review.

Hahahahahha😂😂😂😂

Just wear some damn latex gloves

A really good multi pen is the Tombow mono one. It has a good eraser, and a solid ink color in red and black plus a .5 mm mechanical pencil.

Anyone know how to add lead
to the mechanical pencil part of this?
how to change the leads for the pencil!!????
open the pen (where the ink is - twisting), open the lead pencil slot and add from there. I thought that was pretty dumb way to insert led pencil as i thought it goes through the top )
Wich one is better this one or the Quadro?
Any chance that you are going to review the 57 Powers Mecha 357 Mechanical Multi Pencil?
Not immediately, but I've been looking at giving that one a try. Have you tried it?

Very true. Yet another think to like about the B3 Aviator. :)
Useful thanks, but I prefer the Lamy multipen.

The B3 is very tough to beat. :)
Where to get this kind of pens
I found them on Amazon. Link should be in the description.
rotring manufactures in Japan now, not Germany.
palpatin pulp So it's a farçe now. It's not german anymore and isn't even madce in germany anymore....
The sharp pen is just a crap.
Get some properly fitting gloves brother!. I spent this entire video wanting to snatch this pen out of your awkward fumbling mitts!!
