I have the same pencil, and I fully understand the excitement you feel. There is truly something special about using a quality instrument for whatever it is that you may be using.
I just got my 2.0 yesterday and already I am in love! All my previous lead holders are dead to me ( including my beloved Koh-I-Noor made in Italy) .. the weighted balance on this thing is so divine, the experience of drafting and sketching ( I am an Architect ) is superb. The control and precision! So smooth... I have never had the “cushion” experience before. It is almost as if the Rotring draws by itself.. I can be so deliberate with it. Going from Staedler and Koh-I-Noor to this is like going from a Toyota to a Ferrari. I am ruined forever and will never go back :). The only thing that worries me is that I have read this does not fit in a rotary sharpener. I adore the experience of the rotary sharpener... so satisfactory! But...I will buy a smaller sharpener from Faber Castell (and use the koh-i-noor for for writing purposes only from now on). Thank you for your review and I am glad I’m not the only one gushing over this thing!
Please sir, which lead holder would you suggest for drawing/sketching, other thanthe Faber Castell 9400. Which one, do you think is the best for that job? Thanks in advance
I love my 800+ as well, great pens! What I particularily like about it aside from the mentioned quality and feel is that this one is usable on touchscreens. I can say that I never used that added feature for what it was officially designed for but a very nice side effect is that it retracts the entire tip, not only the lead but also the fragile metal parts.
An excellent lead holder. But in my opinion, not as functional as the Rotring 600 lead holder. The Rotring 600 can fit in rotary lead sharpener while these can't. I think these are made mostly for office work with some inclination towards drafting, while the 600 is really meant for drawing through and through. I also hold the drafting pencil version of the 600 as the best all around drafting pencil ever made so the lead holder version would have that sweet familiar feel of it.
Holy cow! Remember to make a video about it. I think you are going to love it. I'm currently waiting for my Rotring 800+ .5mm pencil to arrive. I just can't wait for that one!
I'm also buying 2 rotring lead holders tomorrow, one black and one silver. So I guess I should go for the 600 over the rapid pro if I use it for sketching/drawing? is the rotary lead sharpener like the best that its so important that the lead holder will fit in it?
rOtring is my favorite as well. They are amazing products!!! They are probably the best ones I have and the design is awesome. Just one thing...I work in construction and yes I damaged my nib. I actually like the rOtring better than most products. I like the weight of the products. The only issue I have had is with the Tiki...it is not for field work either. They are more like office products...not for construction sites...unless you have a shirt pocket to put them and protect them. Thanks.//Chuck
Well, I love all my isographs and rapidographs from rOtring, so I'm sure that these are just as awesome. For a 2.0mm, I just ordered the Staedtler 2.0mm Mechanical Pencil.
Have you tried the 2mm 800? I want it, but 50 bucks, whoa. I have the 600 but in .5mm and a koh I nor 5.6mm Honestly though I can't let go of wood pencils. I got to have both I think. I'm new to it all though.
Kyle Crumrine Makes sense. it's weird because the 800 is retractable normally, but in 2mm it's not, which makes it seem identical to the 600. Also for something to bang around, the staedler 2mm for 9 bucks seem like a good mix to have with the rotring. Metal grip still, but plastic. Thanks for the reply. P.s. I don't get why I can't find a rotary style sharpener for 5.6mm, only a hand twist. The staedtler 2mm lead pointer is great I hear. Just need 5.6mm as well. Thanks again
I don’t draw or wright or anything that would make me have to get one of these but I’ve just always loved pens and pencils. I now have to get one of these! My girlfriend won’t be too happy for me spending 30 and a pencil lol
Why on Earth they stopped selling the Silver Chrome version, when it looks so much better?? I can't even find one on Ebay. The Rotring 600 is great on Black color, but the Rapid Pro especially the 2mm, is gorgeous on it's 2mm version!! Does anybody sell a Silver Chrome one?? Please send me a message if so.
Hi kyle, Does the matt black finish or the chrome ratains its surface and colour in the long run? Dont know whether the black colour tears of when we put everything together on pouch!!!
@@shaheensiraj962 I like both of them. I think just from a color preference standpoint I like the black one more, and think the little chipped corners where metal shows through look cool.
hi, i read that the thread that holds both parts together is made of plastic. can you confirm that? i like the optics of the pro better but if the 600 is the cheapest all metal i will go for that one even if i dont like the chrome parts.

Have you tried the Faber Castell TK 4600 2mm or the TK9400 please? Do the Rotring Rapid Pro 2mm perform better?
Worst-case you could just increase the length of the lead before putting it in the sharpener.

They're actually owned by an American company, ran in Germany, but made in Japan.
How did u find out all that info

Thanks for your review, got the black one.
You’ve convinced me. Just got one.
as of 3/13/19 Amazon has these on sale for $16 for black only.
Ever tried Staedtler 925 25?

Thanks for the review. You are right if we can't afford many pencils . We can at least afford to get them one or two per 6months.

Rotring, Staedtler and Pentel orenz are the pencils that I like the most
Why is there such a big difference between the colors? They're the same thing apart from the colors right?

After several years the black finish has chipped off a little but the silver one doesn't really show any wear :D
Kyle Draws may I ask which one do you suggest and why?

Do these auto-advance the lead when it gets too short? (just curious)
no
greate review man!. i'm buying the black one soon.
they are good, i used them a lot also
O.k,....sold!🤗
Can it take any lead? like koh i noor lead?
Yes. The gauge is 2mm, all 2mm leads will fit any 2mm lead holder.

What's your opinion on the 300 haha because that's the only one I can afford
Kyle Crumrine ok thanks for replying
If you can get it, try the Staedtler 780, it's about the same price as the Rotring 300 and feels nicer IMHO.
lol
Its not all metal. Plastic red ring on plastic. Weak point for a heavy pencil.
