I bought one, the recent 39. I also have a R Explorer 2 and an Omega PO. This watch is so nice that I wear it with pride whenever I fancy it. These watches are made just over the border from HK. The customer care is up close and personal - honestly, what's not to like here. I intend to get an Explorer 1 but this lovely watch will always have a position in my watch box.

Love this one. Great size, beautiful dial, nice finish and a fantastic price. Baltany have smashed it. As for homages, I don't think anyone who's considering a new Explorer will see this and choose it instead, its a different market entirely. Thanks for the honest review as always.
I have the 39mm version landing any day now. I was torn between the 36 & 39mm so was turning which one to go for. I’ve not seen a review with the two being compared.
The only criticism I have for this watch is the thickness of the bezel. It is way too thick in proportion for my liking. It sorta made the watch look clumsy and bulky. On the contrary, their 39mm version has a better proportion bezel in comparison. Unfortunately the watch is a bit big for my wrist. I love the 36mm as always if I have the choice.
I think Baltany were leaning into the vintage theme with that leather carrier. It seems to me like the sort of watch pouch you might have received in 1963, vs the synthetic one.
The best watch reviews on RUclips 👍. I agree with you on the packaging, my 1921 arrived in the older style case and I think it gives the watch much more protection. I might buy this Baltany for my daughter, she used to wear my vintage Datejust until it failed and liked the 36mm case size.
Always a good and in depth review Michael. Like the design, I do refer the black dial. A new, good looking auto watch for that money is amazing. I like the leather ishhh wallet .... the zip box is like all my drone kit boxes!
I think this is a really nice watch, I usually hate gradu-tint watches, this is more refined, works well. I think the size is great, I recently bought a Steelflier SF745, 36mm, very glad I did. I don't like the price, I have bought watches with NH movements from £60 - £100. I don't like that leather pouch, would choose the previous type of carry case if I could.
I struggle to like this dial color, but there's no doubt that it's a good value for the price. I like the NH38, too many smaller makers shave a bit off by using the cheaper NH35. Thanks for a nice review!
Ah, a fair-sized watch among today's monsters. I don't think it's from the devil to make a good design a little differently. And they don't suggest it's original. This is Baltany, this is theirs. It's good that they make a very good outdoor watch at a much cheaper price. The leather case is excellent! I really like it.
Have the black, stunning watch for the price. Don't dismiss the black one, its a washed out matt tropical dial , it looks natural aged and not overly done.
The 1016 is one of my favorite designs and it's good that a brand like Baltany is doing it with such quality and price. The "real deal" is unobtainable and Rolex doesn't deserve my money. I got the black version, can't wait for it. And great video. Sorry if i missed any bit but do you believe in that claim of 200m water resistance? And that plastic spacer, do you think it'll hold its integrity in the long run, let's say, 10 years?
Thanks for that bit of info. Water resistance is untested however I do have a pressure tester that’s coming online soon. The plastic movement ring should be fine. I serviced 100s of 70s seikos and some of them have plastic in them most are fine after 50 years, not all but a majority, The NH38 is replaceable cheaper than a service would cost. Caseback seemed tight and it has screw down crown. As long as the crystal is in good then I can’t see issues with this one, even if I tested it does not been all would pass though .
Delighted when Baltany announced this model. I did consider a Smiths, but too much drama to get one and quality is probably not as good. I am very happy with mine, especially for the price.
With it being screw down I don’t think that would really matter. Not that many will be swimming with these. I swim with a steel dive and a San Martin with zero problems at all and that’s in the sea
Perhaps you should not bore yourself watching watch videos then? I can only work with what is offered to me. No bigger brand or dealer is willing to loan me watches because of my insistence of taking the back off and looking at the movement and dial close up. At least the micro brands are not afraid.

Well, Rolex of course did not produce tropical dials. But alot of Rolex dials turned "tropical" over the decades. Love the Baltany!

I wish this came in a 38mm. I had the Smiths Commando 36 and it was the 43.5mm L2L that made it wear too small for my 7.25 wrist
