Last week me and my friend were talking about guitars and I said that when I by my next guitar I’d want to by some white Ibanez guitar to really get that 80s hair metal feel. A couple days later I walked in to my local guitar store and on the wall I saw a white Ibanez RG 550. I just grabbed it and started playing and now I settled. That’s my next guitar.

The RG is a guitar in its own right. Its not made for "Shoot the Sheriff" nor for "Whola Lotta ..." oldschool bumshit. It demands its own style of music. It is elegant, slender, light-weight, comfortable and controllable as no other and it is made for going out to kill, boost, roar, scream, burn. It is the equivalent to the Millenium Falcon, it is made for speed, it says "do what you want with me, We can set the world on fire" and it is an modern times icon. unrivaled for 30 years and counting.

The Les Paul is a guitar in its own right. It's not made for "Through the Fire and Flames" or "Technical Difficulties" shredder nonsense. It demands real rock and roll. It's iconic, solid, powerful, and embodies the essence of swagger and attitude like no other. The Les Paul is made to drive, rock, and resonate with the spirit of rock and roll. It’s like the classic muscle car of guitars, built for impact, saying, "Do what you want with me, we can set the stage on fire." The teflon bushings on the trem arm can be re-tightened with a cigarette lighter. Heat makes them swell up, and you can make the rotating action stiffer if you prefer.

I was born in 1989....two years after the RG entered the world. I didn't REALLY feel all that old until Ibanez decided to re-issue these things. 😂
I want one in the purple.
Might I add, that you're right; the RG doesn't really have a distinctive sound; but it has a feel all its own, and it's sonic flexibility is part of what makes it so special.
Outside of metal ans shred, I consider the RG to be a preeminent choice for progressive fusion playing.

Your 2nd camera's color correction is making my eye twitch, and I agree, as an owner, it is very, very neon yellow.
It almost seems to put out light rather than reflect it. Great instrument, versatile across humbucker and single coil sounds with that sweet tremolo and hey, it stays in tune like a champ.
One of the reasons I purchased mine to get proper deep EVH dive bombs with ability to throw back to single coil in tune, and it does that. High gain tightness without getting too muddy, and surprisingly glassy from the singles.
The wizard neck is something to get used to but it is fast with a very flat radius.

The gotoh made edge tremolo is so much more comfortable than the original Floyd rose. The saddles are rounded and the fine tuners are out of the way. I replace all my OFRs with a Gotoh GE1996T licensed Floyd. It's basically an even more refined version of the Edge tremolo.

If you're willing to invest a grand into it.. YES! it'll last you a lifetime and you can't really get a better super strat. These are very versatile can play just about any genre on them and sound great doing it. yes they're made for shred, but i know guys that love using them for blues, jazz and even classical. Best super strat ever made in my opinion.

Well. The two big difference points is the 87 has a wizard neck + v1/s1/v2 pickups set. Whereas (2017/18) genesis has the superwizard neck + v7/s1/v8 pickups.
Ibanez could make the genesis in same profile as the original 87. However, it would envolves more costs in the line production to reintroduce a old way manufacturing.
But, in my opinion, about the necks comparison. In spite of super wizard not has the 80’s vibes, it’s more modern and strong.
Otherwise, I think that the old set pickups has a little more “vintage” sound.
Anyway, the genesis it’s a great guitar too.

i´m between this "new" rg and Premium 1070, what would be your choice? I play a lot of styles

I've been playing Ibanez since the original Rg 550 and I have a lot of different Ibanez Rg/Jems and i still think these are the best. These are made in Japan (better quality/better build), no these don't come w/ Dimarzio's like the premium or a gig bag, but again JAPANESE made for under a grand. These are Prestige guitars, just don't have the after market pups. But honestly, you buy one of these and for 150-200 more you can have Dimarzio's or Seymours put in it, which now you're at about the same price point as the premiums, but again now you have a Japanese prestige w/ whatever pups you chose for it and get a hardshell case all for the same price as the Indo made premium. And let's not forget the 550's come w/ the original Edge Trem.. probably the best trem system ever created. The premium comes w/ an edge zero 2, I don't think they're nearly as good as the original edge. Remember guys like: Paul Gilbert, Vai, Satch, Andy Timmons, Alex Skonick, Petrucci and Reb Beach all played the Rg 550 or a variation of it (Rg 560, 570 or 700 series, all the same just different pup config or solid body or inlay differences, but still same hardware and electronics) at one time in their career, some still do.

@@ryant3600 thanks so much folk! Did you've seen the premium 1070fm? It comes with original edge, and prestige frets treatment, and mahogany body. It seems like a good prestige according it features...Due to this, i have a reasonable doubt here 8-)

    • @ryant3600
      @ryant3600 4 года назад +1

@ oh the one I looked at didn't have the Edge..RG1070PBZ Premium, you didn't state which one in particular so yeah whichever, just one's made in Indo and one's made in Japan I guess. And whatever you "look" you like the most

Hi, actually I bought this guitar last week. I am into various musical genre like classic rock, rock and roll, blues and little bit of heavy distortion stuff. I found this guitar very versatile and the v7 v8 pickups are not like other cheap stock pickups..these are really good ones..and plays very open...not at all muddy even in high gain setting....

Didn’t expect those pickups to sound like that...good.. I just always think for 1000 don’t give me house pickups but then again Guthrie govan uses fender custom pickups and he’s the best to ever exist

Made in Japan Ibanez for less than half price of other made in Japan Ibanez guitars. The only gripe I have is the V7 V8 pickups which aren't bad but not great (I would switch them out for Dimarzio's or Duncans anyways). The best feature on this guitar is the super wizard neck. It is literally the thinnest neck on the planet. I had one in the 90's when I was a kid and can still remember how easy that guitar was to play. I have the purple one on my shopping list lol.

I have the Road Flare Red 20th anniversary RG550 and it was 899.00 in 2007 with matching red hardshell case. I modded the pickups to some Satch Dimarzios and she plays so well and smooth.
I am interested in getting one of these Genesis models in Road Flare Red but I am confused why Ibanez couldn’t have included a case of some sort.
Well I will have to see what they are like before I decide.

Cause they refinated their factory standards, so this guitars and the rest of the prestige line are being made better than 10 years ago, also their bridges got expensive due to a legal thing with floyd rose.

I love Ibanez guitars... got rid of f & G guitars in favour of my early 90s 540R with J Craft neck, a JS and an AR. The only thing that I don't like about them is you need to add a little eq to hear the rounder deeper tones but the quality and playabilty along with how cheap the are far outweighs the less affordable alternatives. I never like the harsh edged look of the RGs though. Bit of a shame really as it sounds nice...
