so I have always thought myself useless at anything practical, and while I am DEF not gonna try and build my own garden room, you've inspired me to just try some small projects here and there, and just watching you and team use your tools and how you think is more helpful than I think you could ever realise.
I don’t think you realise how much skill you have Liam , even taking a fraction of the time , it’s hard to replicate what you and your skilled team do, but you give us a shot and that’s awesome
Joist hangers work perfectly 👍, ive never thought of them upside down, ...... But it works exactly the same.... Great unconventional thinking .... Honestly from a professional your work's impeccable gentleman 👍.
I miss your videos Liam, I love the technicality and all the explanations, you could do a great job at being a trainer. I hope you will manage to get through these challenging times. Bless you and take care of yourself 🤗 you’ve done a great job with this YT channel and all the information you provided to so many of us. Take care brother and Happy New Year 2024!
I’ve not finished yet mate, got lots of opportunities next year, I was going to give it up this Christmas, but decided I need to carry on. My daughter said I was her flex 💪🏻 🤣 which means I can’t let her down and need to smash it 😎🤣🤣
Good work. I can't believe anyone could ever possibly look at those joist hangers and say they're not adequate! I've never seen anyone pit a nail in every hole like you do, most people just tosh a nail in from each side and call it done so you've gone way above and beyond on quality, as usual
I am a chippie (carpenter and joiner) over about 32 years experience. This lad is doing these rooms right for the restrictions/climate. Armchair warriors just shine their arses and make bold statements. I've never met one on-site, in horizontal sleet at 7:30am on a black February morning.
If I was working alone I'd mark the other wall plate out for center's, lay all my timbers down flat same as you.between my center marks then tack a hand nail ( 3" wire ) on each center line . Then same as you work my way down one wall plate nailing up to a spacer while making sure the other end of the joist / rafter is sat up against the temporary nail. By the time you get in the other plate each joist is jn the exact correct spot for quickly shooting up . I used this method often back in me roofing days with trusses if me mate hasn't turned in
Nothing wrong with joist hangers,I use storm ties ,go into joists then about 12 inch piece runs down the stud, twist nails,Highlands of Scotland, belt and braces mate, your work is brilliant
You are a proper legend fella. Well done on making a RUclips career out of this. Too many folk scared to share knowledge not just because it may affect their livelihood (copycats etc) but because they are afraid of getting it wrong. Great personality too. I hope BBC know you exist! Could get you on the next DIY SOS! lol.
Hi liam, have you ever thought about investing in a PPN gun? Great bit of kit. I use mine every chance I get and its a joy to use especially with the weather turning it will definitely save those thumbs👍
Beautiful explained and demonstrated. 👍 Ignor the keyboard warrior wannabe carpenters, what do they know eh! Your joist hanger use/trick actually offers a better solution than them piddly clips anyway so anyone in their right mind would simply agree and follow suit. Anyway another great video Liam, thanks for sharing 👍
It may look a bit funny but the joist hangers are perfect for that.... if it works it works. I dont know if anyone has tested how much force it would take for them to fail, but id imagine it would be similar to the standard restraints straps. No way that roof is going to uplift.... unless it takes the rest of the building with it 😂
Could I ask what's the steel your using called is it a normal rsj or the pointed triangle ones and what measurements for the depth that it's sat ect. Thanks.
Watched you doing draconian flitch beams costs must have been horrendous have you never heard of pozi joists they have amazing clear span qualities wise up man keep building the sheds 😂😂
Here’s the problem with idiots like you. You know nothing, if you understood that we are keeping under 2.5 height limit, then you wouldn’t make thick comments like that, and you’d know that any other joist will not do. I’ll keep building my sheds, you keep watching me and trying to put me down. Jealousy is a terrible thing, idiotic keyboard warriors like you just keep fuelling my income, more comments means more money, get back under your rock and keep watching the game leader 🤣
I am looking to build my own when we get the new house in spring. I am currently looking for the timber for the frame work. Do you have any recommended suppliers and what dimensions you use? We are based in Scarborough.
Great stuff, the only question I have is that I understand why you space the rafters at 400 apart so you won't get any waste from your insulation, but by doing that rather than the rafters at 400 centres, when you come to board them the boards don't work out right with the rafters and you end up with floating joints between the rafters. A few guys did this on site when putting some floor joists on and the nhbc failed it, had to be lifted and relayed. Just wondered as it's a garden room whether it is ok to do that in this instance?
Because this was slightly tapered at the back, does it affect the angles of the rafters? I’m building a shed/outbuilding with one angled wall so the with goes from about 1.8m to about 2.8m. I’m predicting issues angles but maybe not…??
Hi Liam. Do you have any idea what loads these roofs can take? I’m considering having a 6m x 5m built using your cut list but want to be able to put solar panels on it. Any ideas if it would work?
So say I follow the steps and am extra careful to ensure the roof has no sharp areas that could damage the rubber. How else could moisture get between the ply and insulation? I haven't boarded the soffits yet but I'm ruling out upwards rain 😂

Absolutely brilliant videos for someone to get their head around if they are not professional but what to have a go themselves.

🤣
Fantastic work👏 I've seen a few of your builds now and I find them to be very educational and useful 👍 keep up the great content💪
top man, watched and like all your video, please make more this type of video, so much thing to learn
That's a good little trick to use the rafters to sit on rather than balancing everything in a ladder and teetering on the top step 👍
Very well explained mate 👍

Hi Liam. You got a nice mention on Robin Clevett’s ‘Chippie chat’ last night. If he thinks you’re okay, ignore the forums.
Brilliant video thank you 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Don't care what the RUclips think in my opinion best tradesman out there and I’m a tradesman my self
Will you come to Ireland and build mine...... 🙏 please.

Great honest video nothing but impressed with your builds 😎👏
great video

Good stuff mate love the vids
Could you use insulated metal sheeting on the back to give extra protection on the back wall ?
don't see why not, but would come at a cost
It may look a bit funny but the joist hangers are perfect for that.... if it works it works.

Could you also use the 'upside down' joist hangers on the back of the roof on the outside and nail into the OSB?
Could I ask what's the steel your using called is it a normal rsj or the pointed triangle ones and what measurements for the depth that it's sat ect. Thanks.

Hi Liam, can you use plywood for the roof instead of OSB?
Thanks
Yes mate, but most rubber roof suppliers recommend OSB3 sheets

Hi mate,
What would you charge for a build package/plan for a 3m square shed ?
Regards
John.
Hi Liam. Do you have any idea what loads these roofs can take?
I’m considering having a 6m x 5m built using your cut list but want to be able to put solar panels on it.
Any ideas if it would work?
You cover RG40??
Would love you guys n girl doing my garden room when I get one
So say I follow the steps and am extra careful to ensure the roof has no sharp areas that could damage the rubber. How else could moisture get between the ply and insulation? I haven't boarded the soffits yet but I'm ruling out upwards rain 😂
but with the roof noggins it will stiffen the roof, i think the span tables are for without noggins maybe?
When you do the first board that goes flush with the edge where you start, do you trim the edge off or leave the groove bit in place?
Leave groove in place mate, fascia will cover it when fit
Just a question liam
400 centres as you will be at 425
👊🏼👌🏻
Are the roof joists 4x2 or 6x2?
5 mate 🫣
Can you please tell us, What is the cost of materials for this project?
Get a ppn gun mate. So much easier than hand nailing!!!
Too tight! There’s a recession on its way 😭
@@thegardenroomguru yea and i tell you what the nails are 10x more expensive too!! I couldn’t do without it on site prices 😂
Seeing you with that hammer gives me ptsd for your thumb.
Brilliant people 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Build garden room from concrete blocks or bricks 🧱 or cordwood this thing he is building is just wooden frame building it’s not strong.
Stronger than you my friend, and will be still standing when your not 😉
