Nice welder. I am a beginner. I clicked on the video because I saw the FORNEY. I am using one at work, it's a different model, but looks identical to yours. The machine is solid and easy to use. I am considering buying the machine you have for my own personal use. Good review, thanks a bunch.👍👍

Good welding.. Flip your wire spool over so the wire is feeding in from the bottom.. That way it is feeding straight into the rollers.

Nice looking welder. I have the Forney 140FC-i and it's a very similar machine...correct me if wrong, but it looks like you inserted the spool wire up side down.

I like my 140FC better than a Lincoln MIG welder that I also have.

You are correct. This is a bottom feed welder. Not sure how fast it will wear a groove in the receiver but it will eventually if it's loaded upside down ;)

I picked mine up May, 20, 2020 for $410.00 CAD plus tax from Car Quest. They carry Forney as well as Hobart. If you examine the drive roll you will notice it is for .030 -.035 only. So while the smooth groove is for solid wire, most people using gas will be using .023 - .025, a drive roll that does not come with the machine, and you have to contact Forney directly at this time to order one.
As for your wire, good old Canadian Tire, Princess Auto, or even your local welding supply store are easy places to pick up the sizes and spools you need. I used the regulator and hose I had from my old Lincoln and it fit perfectly, so you can source those locally as well.
As you properly indicated, there is no TIG torch, but it is available from Forney as well for $99.00 USD and I would recommend getting it direct from them. Consumables are pretty standard and you can get them locally. The tig torch is direct gas, and you will need an Argon bottle with regulator to connect the TIG gas to as the gas connect on the rear of the welder is for MIG only. This is why I recommend getting the TIG torch from Forney since it is the proper type for the machine. This machine is also DC TIG only, scratch start with the gas control on the torch. The amperage is set on the machine and is NOT recommended for aluminum.
I noticed in your video that you installed your spool upside down. This feed mechanism draws from under the spool due to its location and straight angle. It also appeared that your spool tension was a bit too heavy and this can lead to excessive wear on the feed rollers and motor assembly. You want the tension to be enough to prevent the wire from unraveling, but not much more. You may also notice an increase in your wire feed speed once you get the tension of the spool and the drive tuned up. This will improve your weld experience significantly.
Call Forney if you haven't already and ask to purchase a .023 -.025 drive roll for gas wire. You will need a credit card, but they may just take pity on you and send it out for free, because their dealers don't even have the rollers yet. Make sure to ask them to send it US Post as it is way, way cheaper than UPS.
All the best. And remember, your welds should sound like bacon. If they smell like bacon, you're on fire.

Can this welder do stainless turbo manifolds? I plan on getting this welder to do mainly automotive fabrication. Nothing larger than 1/4" plate.

@@hmong337 --- You can mig stainless with just about any welder. The following is a brief Lincoln Electric article on that process:
      www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/support/welding-solutions/Pages/compact-welders.aspx
In all honesty though, you would be far better off with tig, and this is where you have to think about your experience, comfort level and willingness to learn if this process is new to you. This is scratch start TIG. No fancy HF start, no foot pedal, no presets. Set your amperage, turn on the gas, scratch the tungsten and start your puddle.
The welder out of the box does not include the tig torch, nor a regulator and hose. If you're using altop cylinders than all you need is a hose.
The TIG torch is $100.00 from Forney. Hoses for the mig connection are available just about anywhere.
Lots of videos out there welding both TIG and MIG on stainless, take the time to watch as many as you can take and it should really help your decision.
      Good luck.

@@RomstarOrion Thank you so much for the advice. I am very green to welding and fabrication. But I want to learn and get good at it. Since I am into automotive, I will probably will be working thinner materials and likely aluminum. I have never TIG welded in my life but there isn't anything I can't learn and get good at. I'm thinking TIG would probably be best for me. Still doing a ton of research. But I would still love to have mig and stick capabilities.

Buy a $170 tank on Amazon. Most places won't fill it but they exchange it. Then you pay the $40 to $50 for the exchange and now you own a full Argon tank for a little over $200. Just an FYI for anyone interested.
