Thanks so much for helping us “see” what happens in the oral cavity with the tongue!! This is invaluable for new trumpet players!!

I was looking for something like this for so long, I've been struggling with my tongue technique! Thank you.

Take a look at some of my lectures where I explain how to apply this knowledge with various books and a smart practice routine. Contact me directly through my site if you wish to talk directly. I hope all of this helps lots of people practice smarter.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this video. I assume it works the same way for low brass(?)

Thanks! I’m so glad you appreciate it. I’m working on another year of my brass conference to post as soon as I can. The current video I’m working on is of Bob O’Donnell and he talks about use of tongue level a little bit. I also have selected videos on my site what start in select spots of videos by others making various points. Here’s an example. www.purtle.com/the-tongue

Dr. John Haynie Professor of Trumpet at North Texas State in the early 1970s did as best as I could tell actually did the first such study of this type. However we are now 50 yrs later and technology in medical science has leaped light years since that early study by Dr. Haynie.

what an incredible waste of time! And total lack of effort, initiative. I cannot see any differences regardless of what they're playing. So there's no help there.
Then the pics often don't cover the whole oral cavity - nothing is happening at the front with the teeth and I can't see the back so there's no help there.
And none of them have been edited to outline the surface of the tongue, the palate, the gums, teeth, etc and stopped to illustrate discoveries of importance, if there have been any.
Just a massive waste of time and data.

I believe you missed the main point of how tongue level works. Don’t forget that it works in sync with Wind Power and all 7 Items as explained in other videos. If it were as simple as just moving your tongue then everyone would be playing amazing in a very short period of time. It’s a matter of coordination and the time to let your body develop and train correct habits. If you are the man with the same profile handle on Trumpet Herald it appears you have only been playing trumpet since November 2022. That is barely 3 months. Often adults try to be too analytical instead of approaching practice with a childlike self-discovery that we all should have. There are no shortcuts to gain intellectual knowledge that would replace practical working knowledge on the trumpet. Learn stuff but practice smart and be patient to develop properly.

That's quite a bit of radiation to show me something of trumpet technique. I'm glad for it, because I learned from it, but I wouldn't have volunteered for it.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. There is another upcoming video with an MRI that I think people will find interesting.
