As a tubist who doesn’t play in jazz and only listens to jazz this is very helpful

I used to slur everything, but now, tonguing actually makes my note choices more deliberate. Which slows me down a bit, but makes for better music. Thanks!

Very cool. Young players will benefit from this. I really love Dizzy’s articulation in his early bebop years.

You play some hot lines, man. I’ve yet to figure out how to do that. Blows my mind.

I just register, i found your way very smooth. I used to play by ear when I was 32 years sold my Flugelhorn and my trumpet. I am 68 now and 4 months ago I bought a Jupiter 600, used but in excellent condition. Since i bought it i bring playing it 2 or 3 times per day, I also started to read music a little, I am playing Misty by reading the notes, make a mistake ot two but never give up. By the way, I only have my right arm. Bought a nice glove left the pinky and the thump only so when I whole it it wouldn't feel so hard on my hand. Thank you for taking the time to teach us your playing techniques. God Bless!

God Bless you brother! Don't ever give up doing what you love! Hey, did you ever find a metronome for your cell phone? Seems I remember you asking about that somewhere. Kind of amazing what cell phones will do. Happy New Year, and why don't you start your own channel? I'll bet you could teach some important things.

Yep, don't give up! I gVe it up for nearly 40 yrs, got back into it, joined a couple of bands (I did offer them ear defenders lol) and never looked back. I'm hitting 70 and try to get a play each day. 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎺

I am a middle aged rookie.. As a guitar, bass, drum player I just wanted to try something different. You make it look so easy Bob LOL I feel like a child. So clumsy and I can't even make a decent tone. It is all very humbling indeed! Maybe I will pay for some remote lessons. I bought the most inexpensive trumpet on Amazon but I still think the problem is me :) Great videos, thanks.

Very interesting. What kind of tonguing do you think trumpeters uses in the Nestico's arrangement of Hard Sock Dance? Trp are unmuted at 0:30. Only the 3 first notes are written slurred ; for the rest I'm not sure they use the tongue/valves alternance, it sounds like a full (but very light) tonguing on each note. I'm especially wondering for the fast triplets at 0:50. It sounds to me as triple tonguing (which is uncommon in jazz, right?). Furthermore, the 2d and 3d notes of the triplet (E-G) are probably played with the same fingering.
