  • Learn the tips and tricks I use to paint a wood sign with a stencil and get perfect results with NO BLEEDING.
I'm Karin from Oakland Stencil. I use and sell REUSABLE plastic stencils. They can be used and cleaned over and over again. They are not the one-time use adhesive backed or vinyl stickers.
In this video I'll show you how I paint with my stencils, the supplies I use (paint, brushes, etc.), and some tips on how not to have any paint bleeding under your stencil.
Here are some "skip-to" times, in case you just want to get to it:
    Step 1: Supplies - 1:18
    Step 2: Measuring & Placing Stencil - 1:48
    Step 3: Set up/Painting - 2:35/3:17
    Step 4: Drying/Pulling up Stencil - 6:45
    Step 5: Finishing - 7:35

Could you give more details please on using the modge podge? How thick do you apply, and you let it dry completely I'm assuming before you apply paint?

I have stenciled very rough old barn wood with the same technique. Just be sure to use as little paint as possible doing a couple of coats and I used a pencil tip to hold the stencil down in certain spots that weren't laying flat on the board. Hope that helps :)

Just came across your video, do you put sealant on your wood signs after you stencil them?

Hi! Only if the sign is going to be outside in the elements. Otherwise, no.

Can you put clear wax as your finish after stenciling? On chalk or regular acrylic paint that you are using?

Hi! Just the acrylic craft paint in the little bottles you find at Walmart in the craft section. Apple Barrel and Folk Art are what I normally use, but you can use Chalk paint or any kind of acrylic paint.
