I had a Bronze on Tan 1974 AMX ... and Loved it. I remember the buzz when rumors of this AMX III was being designed and fully intended to get one. Shame it never went to production ... ^v^
The AMC AMX III appears to be styled to resemble the Mach 5, the car from the original 1960s cartoon Speed Racer. HUGE blunder from AMC's management not following through woth production. If the AMX III got to go toe to toe with the Daytona & Miura it would have given AMC recognition on the global market and may have given it a competetive edge against the big three. The Pantera with a 351 Clevland would pale in comparison to the AMX III with a 390/401
Nothing new to see here. I recognize all video & data sources copied by & for your presentation. Pantera did arrive in early form beginning in 1970, but was not in full production until 1972. AMC AMX-K 1st appeared in 1967. K was the early designation for this project. The AMX II was also a mock up that appeared in car shows during the 1969 season. It's purpose was to throw competition off their trail concerning AMCs design intent. Yes, they knew of the development of the Pantera. AMC management felt they could not produce the AMX 3 for a list price below $12K. They also knew the Pantera would be listed below $10K. Ford had the money, teams of engineers & experience that AMC could only dream about. So, the AMX 3 was cancelled.

I always thought those AMCs were pretty cool, but didn’t know about this one! It’s super cool!

It was a waste of precious finances that AMC could not afford to waste. It was a beautiful car
