Fun fact: this wasn’t planned at all. Once Tig got the message from her friend (now wife), she texted her ‘I’m going to call you and be as boring as you can be’. Tig is a comedic genius!

@@ubermensch826 Tig has talked about the bit before. It wasn't completely unplanned--Tig asked her friend (now wife) to just be ready on the phone at that time and to sound really boring. They didn't rehearse or plan the bit beyond that.

Tig is a genius. Her style is so subtle, it can be overlooked. But she's got it on lock. She has a 5 minute bit from another late show where she just pushes a stool around. And it's hilarious.

Hearing Andy with a loud genuine laugh is my love language.
It's like she's a walking version of "The Office." And, right now, on the right side of this YT page, is a video called, "Tig Notaro Has No Fear Of Awkward Moments." Yeah, that's it. And this self-referential thing is WAY more hilarious and impactful (there's truth in comedy, after all) than if she were just talking about it. "Yeah, I um, uh, just learned to, uh, *looks at phone* stay present..."

Not to be picky, and to be all "actually", but it was her now fiancé Stephanie. Watched the netflix doc on her and this event just becomes better and funnier because it explains how much of a improvisational moment it was and becomes more meaningful with Stephanie being on the other line, while also explaining of how something like this happened by chance as it does make sense within the context of their relationship/how tig does standup.
Totally recommend the doc. It was super well done, inspiring, funny.

Of course it's a set up! She's making a pointed juxtaposition of how we derail heavy topics with our own personal obsessions... which is actually an old comedic concept, but Notaro plays it out brilliantly.

Absolutely brilliant... also seek out the This American Life episode where Notaro first finds out she has cancer and uses it as a comedy routine on stage. You can't imagine how someone could do that and be funny, still, but she does.

I never really knew much about Tig until she was in Army of the Dead. I started checking out her standup and I wasn't disappointed. She's excellent! I love her style of humour
