- Shane O'Mara is Professor of Experimental Brain Research at the School of Psychology in Trinity College Dublin, and the Director of the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience. Shane's research centres on examining how the brain makes memories. He explores what life would be like without memory, our enduring personal record of our hopes, experiences, desires, wishes, needs, loves and hatreds. He is particularly interested in how memories are encoded by neurons in the brain, and how this encoding is affected by psychiatric or other conditions. Shane is also interested in public policy applications and counterfactual interpretations of neuroscience, and has published over 100 papers in these areas. In this video, he addresses one of the most interesting recent developments in neuroscience: the zombie brain.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
One of my favorite TED talks :D
Absolutely fantastic well crafted video. Best illustrations of pathologies.
Absolutely amazing: so much fun, and some damned good science too!
Is this any coincidence we are seeing these Zombie Apocalypse videos now? CDC already put out notices!! I am hearing the will start turning is August!!
Fantastic!! Very interesting, answered a lot of questions I had about the pathology. Well crafted and funny.
Well done Shane!
When I was tired and stupid, I texted a guy, asking him about the physics of zombies. He sent me here.
I can't tell if this is a joke or not.
it wasn't a joke, just laying out what is possible based on scientific facts. But the way it was presented seems like a movie zombie is highly laughable scenario to ever happen.
I take it as a personal compliment that you missed the two outbreaks we had right here in Dublin over the last few years.
Everything was spot on, except for one critical detail: Zombies CAN climb stairs! Anyone who's played Call Of Duty Zombies will know this. ;)
Paul Is they can jump too, for some reason.
Its 2021 i think this could happen
The pictures in the "destroy the brain" part are bad, because all the objects harming the brain are targeted at areas that are allready not active in a zombie brain. You should instead try to destroy the parts of the brain that still have activity, which include the brain stem and hypothalamus for example.
he's not laughing.. i wonder if they have observed a zombie before. CDC came out an article abt zombie outbreak a few years ago & now in 2021 a few days ago.. after the corona pandemic, nothing is humorous anymore. this is serious
I think it’s serious as well…
Absolutely 💉
Truth is many individuals believe wacko or not that continued belief it will happen actually creates a zombie issue.\
Solanum?
Great talk but a lot more research needs to be done in this field.
Dont worry you will get your chance to study them, but not too closely, is my advice
Funny but a bit creepy watching this in 2021 lol.
It's about to happen. Few Months at max or only weeks
The imagination of the science behind the zombies are outstanding!!!!!!
Not imagination. The Zombie virus is about to be released. They're telling/mocking.
zombie apocalypse is coming its just when its going to happen
In about a few weeks
Started dec 14 2020 💉
The alien is incubating
So is it ever possible that a real movie like zombie apocalypse to ever take place? With this scientific presentation seems like a laughable fairy tale. Closest thing to a zombie apocalypse would be a much deadlier Coronavirus.
The laughs are just appalling , I mean, obviously there’ll be no movie zombies lol, but the dude went through hours of work just to make a stand up show 🙄 uotafoque
Not cool to mix the zombie novelty idea, with real cases of tragic events in a real person's life.
